Enjoyed our experience very much and at no time felt worried about being/eating in the Wig and Pen. Service attention was excellent

Had a very nice meal here. Felt safe as COVID rules were being adhered to well. Tables and surfaces kept clean. Customers kept well spaced apart.
Food very good and excellend value, particularly as they had an offer on. Quick, polite service.
Would recommend.

We booked early on the strength of reviews here. On arrival we were shown to the bar area where our table was set rather than the restaurant. Perhaps we we seated there because we brought a dog with us; so it may be unfair to complain about the location of our table and the staff were very welcoming to the dog, bringing water and biscuits immediately.

Staff were pleasant and enthusiastic.

The food was without exception, ill-conceived, eccentrically presented and badly executed.

Starters were:

onion and rosemary bread and pesto. Which consisted of a decent flat bread and a pleasant enough pesto and a single slice of part frozen bread on the top.

Gambas in a garlic sauce with seasonal salad and crusty bread. This arrived on a huge platter. There was a bowl containing 5 prawns in a butter garlic and cream sauce, a salad of pickled carrots , soggy fried onions, two tomato quarters with the skin half peeled off in a nod to vegetable sculpture and perhaps a little lettuce. There was also a large amount of bland and decidedly not crispy white baguette for dipping and, inexplicably a small bowl of sweet chilli sauce.

Main courses

Risotto with tempura cauliflower. This consisted of a round a stodgy pre cooked and reheated risotto laid on a bed of sauté potatoes! with a some huge thickly battered and fried cauliflower chunks. The batter was more frying tonight than tempura batter. In addition the dish was topped with a long and soggy sculptural item that was called a tortilla chip. It also came with an indeterminate yellow sauce in a jug

Tempura banana blossom ( see menu for description) was large amounts of tempura. (Fundamentally highly fatty batter with none of the delicacy of authentic tempura) with a tasteless presumably banana blossom interior laid on a bed of sauté potatoes. And 5 or six teaspoon-sized-dollops of vegetables dotted round the plate and another strange soggy tortilla chip

Eat here at your peril!

Friendly welcome, great food - would eat the sticky toffee pudding everyday if we lived nearer. Will return on our next visit to Cornwall. Thank you for looking after us.

Pub was very quiet so service was good. Food was excellent, far more food than we expected and very well presented. Not particularly cheap but very good.

So pleased this place is under new management. We had two superb, delicious meals ,beautifully presented and served by friendly helpful staff. We were only in Truro for one week unfortunately otherwise we would have gone back for more! All tables well spaced ,details taken for track & trace and face masks worn so we felt really safe. Staying in Truro again next year and will certainly be going to the Wig & Pen again.

First visit and we have already booked again - which must say something! An absolutely superb meal - excellent food, beautifully presented and served by the friendliest staff. Truly the best meal we have had for a long time - and we eat out quite a lot. A smashing place and highly recommended.

The food was amazing I don’t understand why it was so quiet. By far the best meal we had whilst staying in Newquay. The service could have been better. The two girls that were serving spent most of the time talking to each other at the bar and didn’t explain how the ordering worked and due to this it made us feel a little awkward. It wouldn’t stop me visiting again though!

Arrived here for an evening booking. The disinterested blond waitress gestured to a table by the open door despite all other tables being empty. She then returned to her position behind the bar and continued her chat with her female colleague while each of them played on their mobile phones. I got up to ask for some water before ordering and the other dark haired girl slouched to a cabinet to get a jug and glasses. She took our order. No cutlery or condiments were set out. She was back again behind the bar in her phone laughing with the other girl. She was completely disinterested in customers. The meals came and we had to ask for cutlery. I had beef and my partner had the duck. She made the best of hers which was swimming in a sea of ugly gravy as was mine. My beef was full of fat and I managed to find about 20% meat on the plate. The fat was disgusting. I complained and the disinterested black haired girl said she would speak to the chef. She went away and returned to continue serving others and completely ignored me. Later when the bill came I paid it less £5 which I deducted myself. She was not amused. If you decide to eat here you are making a serious mistake. The food is extremely poor and the service is non existent. This place makes Burger King look like a 5 star restaurant. Avoid at all costs!

Although food was good, we felt we were in a local pub than a restaurant. The web site looked more restaurant so that's why we booked. If they would have had a different dining area it would have been so much better than sitting in a bar. But the food was good though

Excellent meal and service. Difficult times but moved us to a safer table (in my opinion) without any sort of question. Food came quickly, was well presented and hot. Portions were spot on. Regularly asked if we needed more drinks. Overall worth a visit.
