Previous reviews focused on the new space and seemed disappointed that something had been lost. The old space was wonderful but this retakes the peerless food and service to the next level. Highly recommend.
Never disappointed. We have enjoyed Anthony Demetre’s food at the original Wild Honey and here - fabulous. The team was a blend of personality and efficiency whilst remaining attentive whilst allowing the meal to ‘flow’. Thank you all.
Special lunch menu and a la carte venison Haunch were lovely.
The staff at Honey St. James are delightful.
Coffee comes with a delicious chocolate truffle and a scrumptious pastry thingamy that I can’t remember the name of.
Service very good although it was obvious staff had been told to say "how are you?" To guests so slightly inauthentic..but waiter could tell I had a nasty cold so got me a ginger tea which was truly thoughtful
I got cosy table I requested
Not sure it was worth the money we paid
Music not very suitable for client group in restaurant at the time
Thus rating I gsve
Good hotel restaurant. Good decor. Our waitress was very attentive. Overall the food is well cook and presented. As expected there is a premium being in a hotel....
Great to see this old favourite back. Loved the food, very accessible wine list, and service slick but unobtrusive. Easily able to catch up with friends despite busy Friday night.
We had booked a table but need not have done so there were very few people in the place.
The service hardly existed, we felt we were really being a huge trouble to the staff.
We had read an enthusiastic review in the FT before we booked the table. This proved to be rubbish. The food was very ordinary. The menu claimed to include Maseilles style fish stew. We have visited the special restaurant in Marseille with delicious fish. The composition we were give was more like a pile of oddments with a brown liquid. It could have been an ordinary meat stew! One person left most of the dish uneaten.
The best part of the whole event was the cup of coffee!
It was just a bit dull. And service was too erratic (the classic problem of waiting to pay the bill). The only real positive is Demetre's usual policy of lots of wines by glass or carafe. There are so many better places in London than this.
We went for our anniversary with the family, great overall experience.
Booked on the day for 1.30 pm lunch. Pleasant staff. Seated in the ‘entrance’ part of the restaurant and we weren’t offered seating in the ‘front’ restaurant which has a pleasant view though there were spaces.
Generally tasty food though the char grilled mackerel needed more time under the grill - the skin was soft and too much oil remained. Interesting varied wine list with wide price range. Helpful pleasant staff. Overall pretty good and I would eat there again.
Lovely food lovely staff my favourite restaurant in London
Arrived for a Friday family lunch. There were four of us and we met in the bar for drinks firstly. Service throughout was exemplary. We had a long leisurely and wine filled lunch that was excellent. The scallops and bavette being the standout dishes.
Clearly very popular but my venison was very chewy and the side order never arrived. Perhaps because it was so busy, I did not find the service very attentive. Prices were high and the quality of my meal did not justify the pricing level.
We had an outstanding set lunch for an astonishingly low price. The croquette with quince compote was a knock-out, but all dishes were noticeably nice: very fresh steak-tartare, wonderfully melting lamb. No weak spots. Service excellent and very friendly. Very strongly recommended both for foodies and if you are looking for a (relatively) well spaced table.
Set menu was excellent and very good value, wine by the glass of exceptional quality, and service was very good. Very happy and I'd return without doubt.
The service was good but the food was disappointing. As a group we ordered steak and bouillabaisse. The steak was good but we weren't asked how we would like it cooked and it was served very rare, which is not everyone's preference. Two of the party ordered the bouillabaisse which was extremely disappointing. The fish and sauce were served separately. We had to send the first lot back as the fish was stone cold. On the second attempt the fish was undercooked. We were warned by the waiter that the sauce would be rich but frankly it was too intense and not very palatable. We have both had bouillabaisse before and would have expected much better for the premium price charged.
Jonathan has maintained his originality in a totally different setting with lively ambiance certainly not a disappointment superb partridge Sivs
It's a nice location and decent interior to meet up with friends. We chose the set lunch menu which was a good price, but that the choice was very limited and food was average - won't say fabulous or impressive. So it's value for money for a casual catch-up with a nice atmosphere.
Really enjoyed our visit. The set menu was excellent and very reasonable. I recommend the Negroni!
Maybe I'm hypersensitive to slow service but this place drove me mad. The food and wine, when it arrived, was good but there's a natural rhythm to the speed of service in a London restaurant and these people stretch it to breaking point. Not sure whether its the number of staff or slowness in kitchen production but I won't be back until I hear they've actually done something about it. It doesn't seem that they've done anything about it since they were reviewed by Giles Coren on 5 October.
Menu was quite restricted and I would not choose to go to this restaurant again. Food was expensive for what it was and there are much better alternatives in the area. The dining room is lovely, it was just a shame about the food.
The sardines and cod were excellent. The chocolate soup not so excellent. Friendly staff. I even chatted to the lady next to me... how often does that happen these days!
Wild Honey St James is a very elegant restaurant attached to a lovely hotel in Pall Mall.
The atmosphere was friendly and the room is beautiful. The cod I had was absolutely perfectly cooked - probably the best I have ever had! The gap between starter and main was too long - but forgivable. Would recommend and go again.
Good food, great service. Only downside is having both sardines and mackerels in the set menu - would have preferred another fish.
A lovely birthday dinner in a beautiful and peaceful restaurant with a very nice staff. The food was delicious. Une pépite à Londres !
Amazing food / amazing value set lunch
Good menu with something for everyone. Food was well presented and thoroughly enjoyable particularly Daphne’s Welsh lamb and the beef. Staff were very attentive.
We had a lovely evening here celebrating my husbands fiftieth. Food was amazing and the service incredible! Restaurant is beautiful and we so enjoyed our experience here. Wish we lived closer to come back more often.
We had a amazing meal the food and service were first class.
The room is stunning and very comfortable.
But the food was the real highlight, very well thought out menu using classic and modern styles and techniques to produce some wonderfully tasty and visually stunning food.
An all round triumph.
Just such a poorly designed room
We ordered from the set lunch menu offer and the food was great. The service was excellent and all staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
I went there for a special occasion to treat someone. I have been to their main restaurant, which was fine so was expecting even better for this new branch.
As soon as we seated, I noticed the interior decoration and lighting ambiance are pretty tacky and have no soulful taste at all - I have to say, it feels like a commercial mediocre hotel's restaurant.. Food, we ordered two bouillabaisses, cost £68 for only main, but, it tasted so mediocre, not terribly freshly tasty for that expensive dish! Wine, again mediocre, not fine.. only ok part was Wild Honey ice cream, that is all. The worst part is really a tacky interior design decor and horrible lighting ambiance - that is so cheap feel, only for tourists! In the end it did not make our evening special sadly.
Birthday event
Really slow (3 hours for lunch) despite all our efforts to speed them up. Food was passable but not spectacular and portions were really uneven (when you’re doing a fixed menu you’d expect something similar, especially for dessert where the apple tarte was tiny and quite old and the ‘chocolate soup’ was huge and fresh).
Not my favorite experience.
The space is gorgeous and has just been redone, so if they can work out the service the place would be fine!
Lovely new location. Had a lot to live up to as we thoroughly used to enjoy the ‘old’ Wild Honey. Excellent food and delightful waiters. Just a bit slow between starter and main course.Otherwise delightful Experience. Thank you
Great evening. Food was well made and presented. Staff were friendly, relaxed and unobtrusive. Cocktails were right on point. Will definitely come again.
Truly fantastic!! GO!
Excellent food and excellent service - we will return!
We had been to the National Gallery and booked Wild Honey because a) it was close, and b) the set menu looked interesting. They also have really good but not overpriced wine.
The staff were friendly and we had excellent food, wine and service.
We ate from the all-inclusive menu. All 3 of us had the port belly which was excellent. 2 of us then had the choux bun for dessert whilst I had ice cream - all very good. The service was excellent. We finished the meal with coffee - served with a tiny chocolate cake - my husband said wondered what on earth it was and certainly didn't like the flavour. The meal was extremely good but the extras, such as drinks, coffee etc made it a fairly expensive evening for 3.
