Great team who are obviously very proud of what they do and passionate about the food they produce.
Can’t recommend Wilson’s enough.
A stunning dining experience: we were comfortable and very well looked after, and the food was absolutely sensational!
Excellent food good wine good value, the staff were lovely but service was a little slow.
We will be regular visitors
A wonderful little place where they are really passionate about food
We had a great evening, as always. There was a chap on the next table who complained about the food but he was a muppet and was wrong.
I found the combination of background chatter and piped music just too much. The music was unnecessary .
We were sat at a table nearest the door and although it was closed there was a really strong draught. There was one table free ( the other side of the door so still near the door, not great, but no fraught)
Didn’t like fact that pigeon starter was served with claw- gimmicky and unnecessary .
Food ok otherwise but v small portions indeed . Also took a long while coming and combination of bread and two amuse bouches is silly- just get sharper with the starters!
Puddings saved the day. Unusual and delicious.
Wine v good.
Overall didn’t live up to Jay Rayner’s ‘get here from Cardiff’ review or recent FT review. We were v disappointed
Excellent as always. Jan and his team are a talented bunch. Never disappointed.
If you know London's Clove Club, then this is a brilliant chip off the old block - modern, small plate, unusual flavour combinations, and nothing that wasn't delicious. Also - at the time of writing - cheap for the quality!
Phenomenal food and excellent service. Expensive but you get what you pay for!
Everything was amazing, from the welcoming team, fantastic choice of seasonal food which was prepared to perfection and extensive wine list.
I can’t recommend this place enough, they really looked after us!
Incredible food and service. I’ve wanted to visit this restaurant for a long time, and it was truly exceptional.
A truly wonderful meal. Charismatic chef who produced an outstanding tasting menu that was, for me, faultless.
My third meal at Wilson’s, and it continues to move from very good to truly sublime. Every aspect of the meal was great, from mushroom tart canapé to a memorable blackberry soufflé. Charming service, including from the chef patron himself, and a great selection of wines. Many wines available by the 250ml carafe which enables mixing and matching - another bonus. Strongly suggest the tasting menu if you have time. An ever stronger presence in a city of great restaurants.
We had the taster menu. The only weakness, and this would be splitting hairs, was the desert. There wasn't anything else that wasn't innovative, well presented and tasted wonderful, including the 'non-menu' items. The meal overall was terrific value. Service was friendly and timely and we never felt rushed.
Phenomenal food and service. So good, we booked to go again before we left.
Creative and delicious, all had fabulous food and an extremely enjoyable birthday lunch - thanks Wilson’s, we will be back!
Outstanding cooking once again. This restaurant is a gem and we are lucky to be living in Redland.
Fantastic. Friendly team great food and we will be back in the near future.
Had a great meal here! We went for the tasting menu that didn’t disappoint. We started with four different canapés.. each excellent and a varied selection. The anti Prosecco was really interesting (a bit like cloudy cider!). Tasting menu consisted of all three starters, two of the mains, a pre desert and a full sized desert. Definitely a good option as we got to try most of the menu! All in all, really great food and service. The chef delivers at least one course to each table, so you get to have a chat! The wine selection is also good, with four of each by the glass. If anything, I’d say the tables were pretty close together and a few pictures on the wall to have something to look at wouldn’t go a miss, but that’s being pretty picky!!
We had the testing menu, all the dishes were excellent and highly recommend
There is nothing to fault at Wilson’s. The food is excellent and carefully prepared and the service is exactly right. There is a good wine list and the aperitifs original and very good.
We had never tried a tasting menu before and weren’t sure if we would enjoy it. However we decided to step outside of our comfort zone and go for it. And we were so glad we did!! The flavours were out of this world, the wine was delicious and the service couldn’t have been bettered. All in all a wonderful evening !
One of our favourite restaurants anywhere. Imaginative, seasonal food, great staff and a relaxed but buzzy feel. The tasting menu is great value and wines are sensibly priced. Be prepared for a short a la carte and have an open mind - you will not be disappointed.
The welcome you get is simply lovely. Like old friends. This is our third visit and we took some friends who said it was the best food they’d had in Bristol. The menu is so fresh and original, far from the complication of some ‘big name’ restaurants. You were also very generous in letting us finish a bottle we had opened at home - thank you. We will be back.
Four of us sat down to the tasting menu of eight courses. We were introduced to a particular Prosecco - not very bubbly, dry rather than sweet which was rather refreshing and saw us through the first three courses. Some assistance on the wine front saw us with a fine Pinot Noir to take us to the end of the tasting menu.
Little, delicious tasting portions came, each with a detailed description from the servers. The food was always beautifully presented, the flavours worked so well together and each course seemed better than the one before - I'm sure if we had eaten them in the reverse order that that statement would also have been true.
The restaurant itself is simply decorated, cafe style, with ample space between tables. The kitchen is visible from many of the tables. There was a quiet air of complete competence from each staff member which made for a very relaxed evening. The cooking was exceptional!
Overall a great meal. Everything was beautifully cooked (only slight quibble would be whether my terrine starter was a little colder than ideal) with the cod main course the standout. We had a lovely bottle of Greek white (and a glass of sparkling Vouvray to start) but it is a bit of a pain if you happen to be seated with your back to the list on the wall as there aren't any printed versions to look at. Those are minor criticisms though, would definitely recommend.
Really delicious experience- had the tasting menu, which is incredibly reasonable at 50£ for 8 courses.
Outstanding across the board. Food. Ingredients. Combinations. Visuals. Wine. FOH staff. Ambiance. Setting. Countertop Flowers. A modern celebration of British ingredients with heaps of imagination.
Innovative well cooked food, presented by very knowledgeable and friendly front of house team.
Mains course, whilst beautiful, needed another element to make it more filling. However, these points did not spoil a very enjoyable first visit, and Wilson’s will certainly be one of our regular eateries.
Great service and the food was incredible.
Best fine dining experience in Bristol
Definitely have the 8 course taster menu
The food is still beautifully cooked but the portion size for the a la carte has been reduced so much that it is no longer a value for money restaurant meal. The cod was served in a deep bowl that made it difficult to eat.
We have been going to Wilson’s since it opened and it just gets better and better. So lucky to have it so close to our home. Thank you all for a great meal and service
I really love this place. The food is excellent, I had the eel terrine, followed by a fish dish. Both were outstanding. My husband and our friend chose the lobster to start and were blown away by it. We all tried each other's and as always nobody felt they had lost out!
This small restaurant continues to be fantastic. There is a friendly welcome without any fuss. Interesting drinks on a specials blackboard help us whilst study the small but interesting blackboard menu. The wine list is on the opposite blackboard and contains a range of sensibly priced wine mostly by glass, carafe or bottle. The food as always was beautifully presented and flavoursome. I cannot fault them.
Amazing in every way!
We love this place, fantastic food, service and atmosphere.
They take such pride in everything they do.
Tasting menu was delicious. Canapes and smaller portions off the a la carte menu .Lobster wrapped in chard, english cherry soufflee etc etc . Superb . Exceptional food. Excellent service. Relaxed. Not poncy. In the top three meals of my life. ( I am 61 yrs old and well travelled)
Lovely bistro / restaurant. Very warm welcome when we arrived. Service was excellent and managed to be attentive without being intrusive. Also very knowledgeable on the ingredients and there source. All beautifully cooked and presented. Flavours to die for. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening.
We live in London and eat at lots of the best restaurants here, but, without hesitation we will drive to Bristol at regular intervals to eat at Wilsons! Quite simply the best, most imaginative food with tastes and food combinations that are so exquisite. Also the best malted sourdough bread i’ve ever eaten.
I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Everything about the Wilson's experience was top drawer - food was astonishingly inventive, service was attentive and informative without ever being overbearing or obsequious. I could not fault a thing.
That I rated the noice level energetic was simply that it was graduation week - and this small, lovely restaurant was packed.
Can't wait to return.
We were very excited to be able to come to Wilson’s as we’d read great reviews and the meal itself did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in we felt valued as customers and after a quick glance at the menu decided to have the Tasting Menu option. We didn’t have the matching wine flight as we had a long journey afterwards.
I started typing out a full review of each dish but instead I’m going to suggest you just go there and discover Wilson’s for yourself. It’s modern British cuisine with lots of clever additions that work without being pretentious or repetitious.
Go there while you can still get a table at relatively short notice and enjoy their delicious food.
