Hudson, NY serves as a commercial center to many burgeoning restaurateurs, musicians, artists and shop owners. But it's also surrounded by the bounty of the Hudson Valley, from beautiful farms to popular hiking trails and more. For this reason, Hudson is often referred to as the “Downtown to the Upstate,” and it was right on the edge of this very downtown, overlooking the Hudson River, that we fell in love with a building. And a vision. Wm Farmer & Sons and the Farmer family was born. At first, owners Kristan & Kirby were just spending weekends visiting the Hudson Valley and Hudson. But as many NYC ex-pats can attest to, one too many visits can tip the scale from weekend delight and discovery into full time, all-out love. In 2013, with a baby on the way, they bought the historic 19th century Front Street building and began a two-year process of renovations in order to make the building what it has become today.

We go to this place very often.
Tonight, however, was a grave disappointment.
Drinks were great, per usual.
But times are tough and so was the steak.
The dessert was so bad we had to send it back.
Hope this is a temporary condition.

Unfortunately we did not have a great visit. The ambiance was lovely and the service was good, but the food really underperformed for us and was pretty overpriced.

The wait staff knew exactly how to advise us when we had menu questions. All the food and wine was phenomenal. Ambience was great for date night.

will never go back. No where, even nyc, London, Paris do you get charged 34 for a martini. Note the shock when bill cam for three martinis at 122 in total with tip.
No warning. Not on menu.
When speaking with the manager on duty, Corey smith was basically unapologetic as stated that is what management prices drinks.
This is unacceptable customer service. All should be warned. Go down the street to the maker where the drinks are terrific and under 20. $34 for a Martini maybe at the Ritz in Paris.
I feel robbed.
Do not come to this place.

The server asked me if I was not a fan of the burger I ordered. I said "no" and she walked away. I was disappointed that she did not seem interested in finding out why I was unhappy with the meal so they can address it for future orders. She had a dismissive attitude which was disappointing as she saw I only had one bite of the burger.

Let us talk about the burger. It came semi-warm. It probably was sitting for a while. My friend did took some time finishing his appetizers so we figured they waited to serve the main courses after he finishes. (The other dishes were poke bowls and one pork belly dish probably got cooked after the burger since the burger was a simple dish.) In fairness to the restaurant, it came as described - burger, cheese and some cooked onion. Nothing else. I asked if I can have it without the bun and just some lettuce and the answer was no. They do not make substitutions nor did they offer anything else with it.

I paid for the burger in full and really did not mind given where we are in the pandemic. The dismissive attitude bothered me and I was upset I had to go back to the hotel hungry. Thanks to the fries and my leftover dish from the night before from another restaurant close by gave me some relief.

Too bad since this place was highly recommended.

Just a great place. Probably the nicest ambiance and service in Hudson. Chef Kirby takes great pride in the quality of his food and has a great staff. And the oysters - the freshest around and properly shucked. Highly recommended

Gorgeous restaurant with delicious twists on traditional dishes.

The Steelhead Trout Poke was by far my favorite! I tasted a bit of my friend's Wood-Grilled Swordfish Steak and it was deelish!!!

Can't wait to go back!

Great find! From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with a warm presence. The host called me by name and informed us of what protocols they had in place due to Covid. We felt well informed. We ordered oysters, OMG don’t skip them! Cauliflower gratin and rigatoni Bolognese with homemade ricotta cheese, YUM!

Lovely restaurant but terrible food. The Swordfish was a rubbery overcooked extremely unappetizing dish. Had to send it back. Then I ordered the cauliflower gratin which was a heavy greasy lump, Really more of a thanksgiving side dish than a $27 entree.

Maybe I ordered all the wrong things. But it was terrible.

We visited Hudson for the first time this weekend and made a reservation at Farmer and Sons— the restaurant, itself, was beautiful and trendy and tastefully decorated for the holiday. However, as soon as we checked in, we we told our reservation was “in the other building.” We were promptly taken outside and up a block to sit in the lobby of their hotel, which had been converted into a dining area during COVID. Music was odd, ambience was weird since we were alone with no hustle and bustle of other customers...Just odd. Food was okay but overpriced for what it was. We wouldn’t return.

In the current climate, there are several factors lending to guest experience and we are working hard to make sure all bases are covered. We regret that you feel we are not exceeding in this manner. Current seating capacity limits require us to get creative in order to keep our staff employed while maintaining safety. We do feel the space is charming and has a nice ambiance while also a safe atmosphere for more guests to enjoy our great service alongside fresh dishes and stellar craft cocktails.

Beautiful room, extremely polite and attentive service, great food and drinks (Gin & Sin is a notably excellent concoction, oysters we had were as good as any I’ve had in a while), will be back as soon as we’re in town again.

Always such a pleasure when dining at WM Farmer. My fiancé have been going there pretty regularly for about 3 years now and have NEVER had a bad experience. The service and food are always exceptional. They always have GREAT cocktails. The bartenders are very talented.

The food was delicious and very creative, with an obvious focus on the ingredients. Wine and cocktails were great. Attentive service, but not overbearing. Beautiful dinning room. Definitely coming back here again.

It was our anniversary dinner with a few friends. The Servers were very courteous and efficient. The oysters were fresh and worth travelling for. The limited Farm to Table menu provided sufficient alternatives for our vegetarian friends as well as the more traditional diners in our group. Every item on the menu was exceptional! The beverage selection included many exotic choices as well as the standard mixes. The Mixologists behind the bar were very knowledgeable and willing to suggest libations which might suit your palate. Many people said that they stop in for the bar selections after a busy day.
We all left with the feeling that it was time well spent. We will soon return to Wm Farmer and Sons.

Inside is cozy and has lots of atmosphere. Unfortunately covid means you’re in a tent, which is lovely but definitely changes the atmosphere. One of the loveliest restaurants in Hudson. Should have stayed at the inn!

High quality food for a reasonable price. I loved the design and decor of the space. I just wish the restaurant left the windows open for indoor dining. They were open when I was 1st seated, but then they were closed. I'm assuming because it was getting colder outside. I went for dinner. The service was flawless.
