WOOD – Manchester is somewhere you can enjoy a stylish yet relaxed dining experience.
We aim to offer modern interpretations on traditional flavours focusing on simplicity & purity.
Seasonal inspiration can be found throughout our menu.
We chose the 5 course tasting menu. I love the lamb as main dish. The service was good! Would go back again.
The food was outstanding and the serving staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes and how they were prepared and presented. We all had the tutti frutti dessert and it is clear to see why Simon won masterchef with such a masterpiece of simplicity and elegance.
Excellent food , staff & venue, so would recommend it warmly.
Table reservation system had over-booked so had to wait 40 mins for our table. My food was good, my companions complained about their fish dishes being ‘over-salted’. Would give it another visit as service was excellent and ambiance good.
Excellent evening, tried the tasting menu and wasn’t disappointed. Our dessert was particularly delicious.
Excellent food. Excellent service. The lamb was a great hit as was the monkfish. Friendly non intrusive service. Will definitely be back.
We went to Woods to celebrate the birthday of my wife. We absolutly loved our visit. The food was absolutly fabulous and the service was outstanding.
We had the 5 course tasting menu and wine flight.
The food was truly delicious and the wines paired beautifully.
Beth served us. She was lovely and very knowledgeable about the food and wine we were served.
The restaurant lacked a little ambiance as it was quiet, but it was Wednesday lunchtime! The music was great though!
We will definitely be back.
Fabulous experience and worth the price.
Perfect for date night or out with friends and great to taste Simons food as its delicious. Plus staff service was great and added to while experience. 5/5 for me.
Great food and service.
Classy restaurant. We loved the foragers soup in particular. A lovely place for a special occasion.
Absolutely divine steak, amazing wine and great atmosphere - would recommend !
Absolutely average. The portions were small, too salty and expensive.
Good look ok but didn’t taste better than average, real shame as the potential is there.
We had a fabulous evening celebrating my birthday in 26th April from start to finish our experience was excellent. The mushroom ravioli was the standout dish of the night. We will definitely be going back.
Fantastic, the food was wonderful, atmosphere great, staff on hand and knowledgeable about the food. Will certainly be returning.
Excellent service will definitely dine again
We had the theatre menu the food was very good. I Had the pork chop, which was the biggest chop I've ever seen!
The were staff very attentive
Took my mum for a pre-theatre meal and everything was lovely!
All in all I would recommend 100% to family & friends.
One of the best in manchester
All boxes were ticked, food lovely , service spot on and chairs very comfy what’s not to like , will be back!
AMAZING!!!!! Great service, unbelievable food
Absolutely fantastic- food was excellent, service was spot on - we had the 7 course tasting menu with matching wine flight and it was delicious.
We had the tasting menu, which at half price in the January offer was reasonable cost-wise.
There was nothing wrong with the food but nothing amazing either. Since a taster menu usually showcases fine and exciting points of a menu, one expects to be blown away by the dishes on offer but they were no better than food we have had in plenty of places and certainly not outstanding.
The atmosphere is lively and decor was really stylish.
Unfortunately, the service wasn't too impressive. For example one of the courses was forgotten and served out of sync in 5th place, not 2nd. There was no apology when the error was discovered. The waiter merely blamed the kitchen!
Added to this, the time lapse between courses was too long, about 20-30 minutes between each small portion of the taster menu. I am all in favour of breaks between courses but that was rather too long!
Our second time at WOOD, where we’d previously had an excellent meal, this time for our wedding anniversary.
Great seat in a booth overlooking the kitchen area which is a very nice experience. Good cocktail aperitifs.
We had a pleasant and attentive waitress, but the white wines we ordered with the starters were mixed up, and whilst the scallop starter was well cooked and beautifully seasoned, the belly pork was pretty tasteless aside from the lift of the compressed apple balls. I told our waitress the pork was under seasoned, and she said “oh ok”.
The Tomahawk steak was a beauty to behold and a great thing to share. We were asked if we would like it cooked medium, and we agreed, but it arrived rare. Fine for us but others may be disappointed. The peppercorn sauce was overpowered with pink peppercorns. There are some great red wines on the menu, and ours was brought over by the sommelier, but he couldn’t say much about it, and to be honest he was notable only for the fact that he spent most of the evening leaning against the main bar...
The lemon soufflé was excellent, and we had a couple of glasses of good dessert wines.
Overall, the food was reasonably enjoyable, the wine was good, and the service was ok. The ambience is excellent, but I don’t really think that the ambience alone justifies nearly £300 for a meal for two.
Hawksmoor represents a better proposition for an expensive, fancy steak meal. Hispi in Didsbury represents a better quality dinner of the sort that Simon Wood offers, and at much better value (I have no affiliation to either).
Sadly WOOD joins 21 Stories in my opinion as restaurants in Manchester that get the style right, but fall down on the substance.
We had the 7 course tasting menu which was excellent. Value is hard to judge as it was in the Jan sale. Would definitely return anyway to try the A La Carte menu.
Very good tasting menu , good friendly staff in a comfortable contemporary restaurant. The restaurant did not have a record of my booking but seated us very quickly with a complementary glass of bubbly. This may have been an issue with OpenTable ?
Three of us had lunch at Wood the other day. Each of us chose the 5 course tasting menu at £49 per person, although we each had a Manchester Confidential voucher (£50 of food for £25) so it worked out at 5 courses for around £25 which was incredibly good value for such exceptional food. It was all wonderful but the highlight was the Scallop dish (best any of us has ever tasted) closely followed by the Brisket and the Tutti-frutti desert.
Food and service were excellent, open kitchen looks entertained and trustworthy, too loud to talk to each other, food portion was a bit truth to be told in general was really nice experience
Great quality food for a special occasion. The food is really well presented and service is excellent. My partner was also given a free birthday woodland desert which was a really nice touch. Would highly recommend.
Decent service. Scallops were fab! As was the salted caramel dessert.
Wood has a very airy and open feel to it. The food is creative and very well priced for fine dining. The kitchen is 'open' so you can see the chefs in action. Service was friendly and efficient.
Beautiful restaurant but the meal was slightly uncomfortable due to being sat next to the double doors near the wine counter that let in an very cold chill. I had to swap seats with my partner as they were extremely cold. The couples on the 2 tables next to us also said they were cold, this unfortunately lead to our food cooling rather quickly. Our waitress was amazing, had only been there 3 days but was fantastic, friendly and knew her food and wine. Again it was unfortunate that another 2 members of staff could be heard dissing her skills after she chose the wrong glass to serve our wine in. Over all we would come back but would not have the taster menu again, we would prefer to go for a full on meal next time as the Tomohawk steak has been highly recommended to us since our visit.
2nd time dining, 1st time was lunch taster menu, this time 7 course dinner tasting menu with the wine flight. Can’t fault a single aspect of the evening, food was outstanding, wine match was interesting without being pretentious and really worked with the food.
Wait staff were excellent and Simon was front and centre at the pass, was mor than happy to chat with the diners when he wasn’t at work cooking.
Go there, you will not regret it!
Amazing food, great to watch the chefs work in the open kitchen
Excellent service from Oliver, was helpful and knowledgeable about the food even though he had not been with the resto for a long time ....well done Oliver
Despite the restaurant being empty we were given the worst table next to the waiters station and had to ask to be moved which was accommodated. We then had to wait 10 mins to give our drinks order by which time we were ready to order food anyway. The waitress was very knowledgable about the menu. However when the food came my friends portion was minute, £14 for 2 scallops, £28 for 2 strips of lamb that must have been no more than 2 inches long, was pretty poor. We were so astonished that we laughed and couldn’t contain ourselves when the waitress asked how was the food.
in comparison my meal portion was good but the flavour didn’t justify the price.
We eat out a lot however this place is definitely off our list.
Beautiful food, attentive service but for me, it lacks atmosphere if you want something cosy, intimate and romantic. It’s housed in a ground floor unit of a modern block so it has no ceiling as such and the acoustics are so bad, it was too noisy with a lot of diners.
Following an early evening concert we picked Wood for an evening meal based on reviews online, we’d never been before. I’ve got to say the overall experience was superb. The ambience is good, the staff friendly & attentive and the food ... as good as it gets.
A three course meal is not cheap but this really is fine dining, the standard of the food, the preparation and the way it is presented are all excellent and overall it represents good value. I hope we can come back soon.
