Wright Brothers - Spitalfields
Characterised by the stunning marble oyster bar which invites counter-style dining while chefs shuck and prepare the freshest oysters in front of you. The seafood at Wright Brothers comes sourced via their own wholesale business in Billigsgate market. Feast on huge seafood platters, packed with fresh shellfish alongside a seasonal selection of delicious small plates and flavourful mains like the tempura fried soft shell crab with sriracha mayonnaise, winter slaw & fries.
The bar serves a comprehensive range of seafood friendly wines and cocktails, which can also be enjoyed outside on the 'Market Terrace’— a heated terrace which allows for year-round alfresco dining.
Oyster lovers should visit between 3-6pm daily to enjoy their 'Pound a Pop' offer: oysters for just £1 each.
Sunday: 12pm - 9pm
There are two large bike racks on Lamb Street.
The number 67 bus serves Commercial St, or the 8, 26, 35, 42, 47, 48, 78, 135, 149, 205, 242, 344 and 388 are approx 3 min away on Bishopsgate.
We came here for my partners birthday and everything was just perfect. I had made a few requests only hours before our reservation and everything was organised and prepared for us in the utmost professional way. Thank you.
Good table, friendly service and lovely food.
Lovely seafood platter , great staff and great service . Prices very reasonable for style of food .
Had a great evening thank you
Amazing food as ever (although the soft shell crab was overcooked) but let down by poor service and I'm sad to say poor attitude.
Table not ready on arrival (and I was a few mins late). No real apology but invite to sit at bar. Ordered drinks but had to chase. Sparkling wine arrived after a too long a wait and wasn't chilled enough. Had to ask for ice bucket. Catching eye to be served a challenge all evening. My previous visits always had outstanding service - feeling let down
Good varied selection of fish and seafood. Delicious food and the starter was easily enough for 2 to share
Very good food and pleasant staff. Will return next time we are in London. Perhaps, we will try the other sites, like South Kensington
I’ll start how I’ll finish. It was ok. Sat at the table, waited far too long for a drinks order to be taken, when it did turn up, apparently from “the cellar” it was more than warm. Sent it back and ordered something else that was chilled. Food, main meal we had was good, house seafood platter. Would of liked 2 or 3 pieces of lemon instead of the one and two types of Tabasco sauce but, maybe I’m being picky? Had to ask 3 Times for crackers for the Langoustine, different waiters. Paid the 12.5% service charge as I’m English after all. I’d of not left that for the quality of service. As said above - It was ok. Could do better.
I’m a lover of seafood, this place just ticked all of my boxes. I can’t wait to go back!
Great service - very informative and happy to discuss the menu with us. Food was outstanding. Would highly recommend!
Good Food and friendly service
Seafood platter highly recommendable
We visited for our grandsons 12th Birthday as he wanted to have oysters. The staff made him feel really special and went out of their way to ensure he had a great time.
I’ve dined at Wright Brothers in Borough Market too many times to count and it’s always a consistently excellent experience.
This was my first time at the Spitalfields outpost and it was very disappointing. The main let down is that the quality of the cooking is just not up to standard. According to the two other people I dined with this usually the case.
I won’t go back. I will visit Wright Brothers in Borough Market, which continues to be one of my favourite London restaurants (and I eat out a lot).
On a side note, the waiter was friendly.
Seafood is not fresh. We order full house seafood platter. Worst seafood ever.
First time visiting the Spitalfields restaurant, usually go to the Borough one and fancied a change. Decided to have a date without planning and was able to get a booking for 8pm after trying for 7pm, requesting to sit at the oyster bar.
Seats were ready when we arrived, 10 mins early and felt it was a great spot. The bar stools don’t have a back to them like the Borough Market ones, but are also larger and still comfortable. Much more space at the bar for eating.
We were looked after really well, given the opportunity to ask questions about the menu and left alone enough to enjoy our time whilst still getting our wine glasses refilled.
Was very happy to be able to order shellfish without going for a platter, and went for jersey oysters on recommendation from the host and razor clams, followed by sole in butter sauce and roast crab.
I’m not a fan of the oily crackers served with the cheese board, though my husband loved them so it’s a matter of opinion.
Will return and try out the outdoor seating.
One pound oysters from 3-6pm - need i say more?
Good fish but poorly cooked. Tempura ; soup not good. No fresh flavours of herbs or spices. Not what you expect these days in a top notch chain.
Booked a table for our anniversary.
We were sat at the bar and despite the restaurant being open for an hour until closing we were made to feel rushed and uncomfortable, with the staff constantly spraying and cleaning around us and making us feel like they were trying to close.
We were sat at the bar and made to wait to order drinks at least 20 minutes despite them having plenty of staff, which was surprising when we soon after were told the kitchen would close at 9pm (bank holiday Sunday) and we should order if we wanted to eat hot!
What was supposed to be a special occasion felt like anything but, and an expensive meal (£140) was nothing like the great experiences we have had at this restaurant in the past.
Even the general quality of the restaurant seems to have diminished since our last visit, with cheap paper napkins instead of proper cloth napkins, no music and no atmosphere whatsoever.
It would have been better for the restaurant to close at lunch (on a bank holiday Sunday), than remain open for dinner with the type of vibe that we experienced.
Very good service, lovely place, really nicely decorated, food was very good, but not the best fish place I have eaten at, also for the cost I would say it’s slightly over priced, food is good, but the prices they charge it should be much better
All that said, I did like it and it’s a place I would visit again, but not if someone offered me another place, as I know I have eaten much better Osysters then these sell.
Amazing food, great service! We went for our anniversary and they served dessert with ‘happy anniversary’ written in chocolate, our waiter was extremely helpful with choices in oysters. Overall lovely meal out.
We met a friend who had come over from the USA.
The food was very average. Nothing special.
The waitress was grumpy and everything was too much trouble for her.
The bill for the 3 of us was about £170.
Would never go back as it didn’t feel special or fun.
Booked for our anniversary post matinee in West End. Arrived an hour early - seated without fuss and complimentary glass of fizz for our special day. Attentive service and very good fish. Our second trip here and not our last I'm sure.
Excellent ambience and perfect service
We love the Wright Brothers in London Bridge
and was pleased that although we lost the Three Barrels in Spitalfields (spanish)
we gained a place we love
Great food, great wine, great service. Returned for a special occasion after our last visit two weeks ago, it was just as good as before.
It’s a lovely restaurant and the seafood platter was lovely (the oysters are incredible). My main meal of sea bass was a little dry But otherwise it was brilliant and I would definitely do again.
Very nice seafood restaurant. Decor and ambience great and very good service.
Delicious fish and seafood - go for lots of little plates over a main. And good service.
Oysters where amazing, service and atmosphere perfect. Wonderful night nice date night spot
Have been a regular here since it was opened - about time to leave a review to do justice. Ignore the one star reviews... clearly anomalies from guests with hidden agendas...
AmaZingly fresh Oysters, Fruit de Mer and cooked options including the best fish n chips ever had (tempura cod, light and fluffy and crispy)....
We come here almost every week with family or friends (or pooch) and enjoy the £1-a-pop-oysters or if for dinner (despite how incredible the fruit de mer is) the fish n chips is just too tempting....
Excellent wine selection
Excellent service must be mentioned we rely on being looked after by Martina or Luke (if not I request them) and they are faultless, patient and make such an effort to accommodate us (and we are needy diners!).
We usually sit on the terrace which is inside Spitalfields market and has a lovely relaxing xed ambience but inside the restaurant there is a gorgeous marble bar and quite frankly since they opened I have always admired the interiors...
Outstanding seafood, the best we have had in a long time, we are planning our next visit.
The choice of wine was excellent, good to be able to buy by the glass or bottle to satisfy everyones taste. Service was also excellent always present but not intrusive.
Lovely food as always. Had a range of Oysters which were great, tried the razor clams. Had the mussels and crispy squid with nice Reisling. 👍
Wright Brothers is always a good place to go for seafood options.
The staff is always very nice and helpful
Depending on the time of the week and time of the day, they can get pretty busy, but if you leave your number, they would call you back to let you know they have space for you.
Better book before you go.
I am not a fan of oysters, but my friends always have them on their "happy hour" deal - never fails to please them :)
Don't judge too much by my picture - I am not really good at taking the best shots.
Very good service with nice food.
Overpriced and inconsistent ...
Poor for ... scallops (3 small scallops for £14.50) - we complained and this item was removed from the bill. Rather slow service. Reasonable for ... well cooked hake.
I considered ordering the "Cornish sea bass" but (knowing the current regulatory issues about landing of wild sea bass) I asked whether it really was wild or farmed. The waiter queried this with the chef and I was told that it was actually farmed .. so I then queried in what sense it was "Cornish" as I am not aware of any farming operations for sea bass in Cornwall (it mostly comes from Turkey and Greece). I did not receive a clear answer. This appears to be a misrepresentation.
All in all .. not a good experience. A shame as I have good meals at Wright Brothers at Borough Market
Waters attentive & very informative, but not in your face. Food... Soft shelled crab & Sea bass cooked to perfection. And for me the Gin cocktail's fantastic. Great night out.
Oyster's are amazing, especially at £1. Fish is great, muscles great. Top job
My husband and I decided to celebrate our 1st anniversary as a married couple there. We booked the table for Sunday and the process was fairly easy.
We go to the restaurant 5 minutes earlier and we were walked to our table, and although they had tables available in the terrace they decided to give us the one in the hottest spot of the place. On the way to the table the waiter said that they've ran out of platters and but he would check with the kitchen and let us know what they could do, he offered some water and he went to fetch it. Needless to mention that we saw a few platters coming out of the kitchen while waiting.
During the 20 minutes that we were waiting another member of the staff walked to us and pour some water and right after took the drinks menu. A few minutes later she came back confirming that they'd run out of seafood platters but they could build something for us just without the shrimps and a few more things (while we were seeing at least two new seafood platters coming out of the kitchen for other two tables). At this state I was just shocked. I tried to get the attention of the staff just to see what our options were and they wouldn't acknowledge us at all. After more waiting I decided to go to the till and informed the staff that we were leaving, as we only went there for the platters. I offered to pay for the water, but at least they declined this.
I am really sorry for this review, as I truly was expecting more (way more) than what we found in this place. We were told that they could potentially be the best seafood place in the East End and we found an unorganised staff, rude, a bit judgemental too (I must say) and lack of attention, as I think that if you are willing to pay £100 per platter plus drinks plus etc, they could treat you a little bit better. I can comfortably say that this experience actually ruined what was being a great day until then.
I am afraid that for the time being I am not planning to come back to this restaurant.
Great tasting food. The service was excellent and very helpful.
Top Location, fine food, excellent wines.
Was first time there. Before several times at Borough Market.....better Oyster variety=
no " Gillardeau" in Spittafields
That s the only thing missed :-)
My husband and I went to the Spitalfields branch of Wright Bros for a date. We have been there before, and the food was wonderful, as usual. Very fresh seafood, attentive and friendly service, we did not feel rushed or unwelcome at any time. We will be back again soon.
