Wright Brothers - Spitalfields
Characterised by the stunning marble oyster bar which invites counter-style dining while chefs shuck and prepare the freshest oysters in front of you. The seafood at Wright Brothers comes sourced via their own wholesale business in Billigsgate market. Feast on huge seafood platters, packed with fresh shellfish alongside a seasonal selection of delicious small plates and flavourful mains like the tempura fried soft shell crab with sriracha mayonnaise, winter slaw & fries.
The bar serves a comprehensive range of seafood friendly wines and cocktails, which can also be enjoyed outside on the 'Market Terrace’— a heated terrace which allows for year-round alfresco dining.
Oyster lovers should visit between 3-6pm daily to enjoy their 'Pound a Pop' offer: oysters for just £1 each.
Sunday: 12pm - 9pm
There are two large bike racks on Lamb Street.
The number 67 bus serves Commercial St, or the 8, 26, 35, 42, 47, 48, 78, 135, 149, 205, 242, 344 and 388 are approx 3 min away on Bishopsgate.
Our dinner at Wright brothers was top notch. The food was absolutely amazing. The ingredients seemed super fresh and high quality, and the flavours were complex. The portions were so filling we didn't have any room for desert. Also, the service was fantastic. It was my husband's birthday and although we didn't order any desert, they brought out some delicious icecream with a birthday candle. I would definitely come again.
Our favourite seafood restaurant, good choice of food and wine. Service excellent, friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Love the oysters.
Food and service really great as usual. The only thing I can say was bad was the fact that when we arrived the lady that greeted us tried to put us on a table right next to two ladies. The whole restaurant was empty apart from them and I do not understand why they do this when the whole restaurant was not reserved.
Lovely food mainly fish and seafood dishes. Attentive and thoughtful service. Enthusiastic staff. A good evening all round.
OK, but nothing to write home about unless you’re into oysters in a big way. Salt cod croquettes enjoyable, but uninspiring sea bass: very small and over-cooked. Hugely overpriced, especially the wine list. Far better alternatives very close by.
Didn’t get served a drink until prompting bar staff
But after that service was good
Great menu, shellfish heavy starters from raw oysters to cockles to oyster shooters, other starters fantastic as well (cod croquettes are amazing), mains fish are solid
A return visit that didn't disappoint Great oysters to start and the fish mains were excellent. Drinks are pricey but staff friendly and efficient
The food we got was good Sardines/seabass/cheeseplate
Service on the other side needs work.
Poor standard of cooking and average product.
We had fish and chips (fish was crumbly not flakey, the chips were fries that had been standing and reached the diner pliable and luke warm - the peas were under seasoned and the tartare sauce was acceptable) and the special which was the halibut (over cooked and under seasoned).
An expensive and very average meal, which unfortunately for Wright Brothers isn’t acceptable anymore in London.
I didn’t see anything that would want me to give this restaurant another chance.
Food are fresh and very tasty. Services are very good and waitress are very attentive. Will come back for sure !
We had been here before and my husband loved the place , I felt it's more like a chain restaurant and I think we both felt that this time. Food was ok, not wonderful although I really liked my main course of hake and the oysters were good. Service was good though probably won't rush back as so many other restaurants to try .
Can't fault the food or service.
However if you have a group of 10, apparently it's a real problem to allow you to have the full menu - they want to limit you to just 4 options. I had a real battle to get the full menu - despite assurances that we weren't bothered about the 'standard of service'. We wanted choice over service - try telling that to the manager.
Sadly although highlighting on our booking form it was my birthday lunch the service was terrible. Why ask??
My starter & small plate came but nothing came for my partner. He got his cocktail but I had to ask for the wine which came after I finished my first course. We did tell the waitress to serve our order all at once.
Wine glasses were not topped up during the meal by waitress. We had to do it ourselves.
Basically we had to ask for everything twice. They were not at all busy. We were not offered outside seating which I saw during my first course.
Staff too busy talking amongst themselves most of the time.
No acknowledgement to our special occasion birthday.
Pity as we loved the food.
Will not be returning due to v poor service for a £170 lunch for 2.
Staff were really friendly and very accommodating.
This is our second visit travelling from the Midlands.
We changed the time of our booking which was no problem and were given a lovely table outside.
The staff were really informative about the wine and food and chatted to us for sometime.
I would highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again!!!
Good food, decent service. The pros and cons of being directly in Spitafields market is the buzz of the market coupled with people ogling at your food.
As always, Wright Bros scores on all points.
Requested via reservation the seasonal native lobster and got it.
Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. Atmosphere was really good and service welcoming and efficient. However was not blown away by the food, have had seriously much better seafood elsewhere, calamari was a bit overdone and the bread was as hard as brick but the cauliflower had a good flavour. Decent selection of cocktails. Overall a nice experience but wouldn't feel the need to go back.
Good wine champagne and cocktails menu . Fish was cooked perfectly , we had a bottle of wine 2 course and a shared dessert with dessert cocktails for £154 with service so not cheap by any means but worth every penny
Fantastic food, exceptional service. Super accommodating for my sisters birthday. Try the English sparkling wine - fantastic with oysters!
Crab was fantastic. And reasonably priced. Menu with seafood platter options a bit confusing. But service was excellent. Attentive but relaxed. Would definitely go back. Lovely outside setting.
Cannot fault the service we had on Tuesday, small plates were also all delicious. Thanks for a great evening.
Disappointed with food, steak and two prawns for a main dish seems rather mean steak did not have much flavour rhubarb on desert not cooked Fish ok but bland, salad not very interesting and dressing tasteless. When making the booking I was asked what the occasion was, it was for a birthday, but nothing was mentioned during our visit, why ask for this information if u were not going to recognise it at least when being greeted. Not a warm welcome we were 5 minutes early and although plenty of tables was greeted by” oh your table is not ready”. We were given a table straight away but felt like we were a bit of a nuisance. How hard would it to have been to mention we were there for an occasion and hope we enjoy the visit, it was clear that you neither read the notes attached to the booking and or it is of no interest to you. Server was not attentive when we asked for wine glasses we were told “glasses are on the table”. She did go and get steamed glasses but Is it not allowed to choose to drink your wine out of a wine glass rather than a tumbler? Starter dishes left on table after we had finished although she looked across several times. Only asked once when we paid if we were happy with meal. When we responded with a less than enthusiastic fine we just got a response of good. I did not want to pay the service charge but my friend is kinder, and it was his treat for my birthday. See no reason to return although restaurant looks very nice. We both work in hotels and know there is better food and attitude out there
Such amazing food, we are still taking about how delicious everything was three days later!
Excellent food, especially the shellfish, and we loved sitting on the bar watching the oyster shucking and other food prep. But drinks were only average quality, particularly the warm white wine. Nevertheless we will go again because the food is lovely.
We came here for my partners birthday and everything was just perfect. I had made a few requests only hours before our reservation and everything was organised and prepared for us in the utmost professional way. Thank you.
Good table, friendly service and lovely food.
Lovely seafood platter , great staff and great service . Prices very reasonable for style of food .
Had a great evening thank you
Amazing food as ever (although the soft shell crab was overcooked) but let down by poor service and I'm sad to say poor attitude.
Table not ready on arrival (and I was a few mins late). No real apology but invite to sit at bar. Ordered drinks but had to chase. Sparkling wine arrived after a too long a wait and wasn't chilled enough. Had to ask for ice bucket. Catching eye to be served a challenge all evening. My previous visits always had outstanding service - feeling let down
Good varied selection of fish and seafood. Delicious food and the starter was easily enough for 2 to share
Very good food and pleasant staff. Will return next time we are in London. Perhaps, we will try the other sites, like South Kensington
I’ll start how I’ll finish. It was ok. Sat at the table, waited far too long for a drinks order to be taken, when it did turn up, apparently from “the cellar” it was more than warm. Sent it back and ordered something else that was chilled. Food, main meal we had was good, house seafood platter. Would of liked 2 or 3 pieces of lemon instead of the one and two types of Tabasco sauce but, maybe I’m being picky? Had to ask 3 Times for crackers for the Langoustine, different waiters. Paid the 12.5% service charge as I’m English after all. I’d of not left that for the quality of service. As said above - It was ok. Could do better.
I’m a lover of seafood, this place just ticked all of my boxes. I can’t wait to go back!
Great service - very informative and happy to discuss the menu with us. Food was outstanding. Would highly recommend!
Good Food and friendly service
Seafood platter highly recommendable
We visited for our grandsons 12th Birthday as he wanted to have oysters. The staff made him feel really special and went out of their way to ensure he had a great time.
I’ve dined at Wright Brothers in Borough Market too many times to count and it’s always a consistently excellent experience.
This was my first time at the Spitalfields outpost and it was very disappointing. The main let down is that the quality of the cooking is just not up to standard. According to the two other people I dined with this usually the case.
I won’t go back. I will visit Wright Brothers in Borough Market, which continues to be one of my favourite London restaurants (and I eat out a lot).
On a side note, the waiter was friendly.
Seafood is not fresh. We order full house seafood platter. Worst seafood ever.
First time visiting the Spitalfields restaurant, usually go to the Borough one and fancied a change. Decided to have a date without planning and was able to get a booking for 8pm after trying for 7pm, requesting to sit at the oyster bar.
Seats were ready when we arrived, 10 mins early and felt it was a great spot. The bar stools don’t have a back to them like the Borough Market ones, but are also larger and still comfortable. Much more space at the bar for eating.
We were looked after really well, given the opportunity to ask questions about the menu and left alone enough to enjoy our time whilst still getting our wine glasses refilled.
Was very happy to be able to order shellfish without going for a platter, and went for jersey oysters on recommendation from the host and razor clams, followed by sole in butter sauce and roast crab.
I’m not a fan of the oily crackers served with the cheese board, though my husband loved them so it’s a matter of opinion.
Will return and try out the outdoor seating.
One pound oysters from 3-6pm - need i say more?
