Wrights Anglers Rest
Just a 10-15-minute drive from Dublin City Centre, this landmark establishment in the seclusion of the Strawberry Beds – next door to the Phoenix Park – has a history that stretches back to Cromwellian times and the famous patriot Michael Collins. It has long been considered as his the favourite watering hole and for anglers fishing along the banks of the adjacent River Liffey.
Today, the tradition of great food and drink continues with a strong culinary reputation, including the freshest seafood landed by Wrights of Howth, and a wide selection of national and international brands of beers, wines and spirits.
We always have a great dining experience here. Would like to see more vegetarian options on the menu.
Food nearly always good but warm veg and potatoes this time, special occasion so disappointed. Very rude young blonde waitress who left us sitting there with our desserts going cold while she had a chat with the barista. Not impressed they need to do better or at least train the staff to do their job !!
Excellent food and ambience. Lovely surroundings and attentive service. We'll definitely be back again.
It's one of my favorite restaurants in Dublin, The menu, the staff, and the service. I can't say enough!
Wright’s Anglers Rest will always have a special place in my heart as we got married there so I couldn’t think of a better place to have a special lunch for my 40th birthday with my husband and son and the staff where as amazing as ever they sang happy birthday to me which was lovely of them to do can’t wait to go back.
Outstanding food as always! We have been here a few times now and every time is as good as before. I would highly recommend to a friend. Prices are quite high however the quality of food makes up for this. The atmosphere is lovely and the place itself is quite warm and cosy. The staff are friendly however we asked for drinks twice and they ad forgot to come back to us. Overall lovely experience and we will definitely be back.
The food here has gone downhill in the 2 years, I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back for this reason only the staff a nice
Beautiful place to eat and relax. Went in the afternoon so wasn't busy. Celebrating a big birthday. Staff and service excellent. Food delicious.
Dinner was poor quality for the price and we sat at the window it was freezing
The service and food was excellent, the back ground Irish music played (not too loud) by two musicians was very good, the owner / managers little word with each table was a nice touch, a lovely lunch indeed, we will be returning
We enjoyed our night in the Anglers Rest Warm cosy atmosphere service excellent
Limited beer choice only complaint but everything else excellent
I've been going for many years to this restaurant and it always has great food / portions. Unfortunately on this occasion the portions were a little small and the food was just fair. I will return as I hope it was a one-off.
Our only complaint is that we found the restaurant cold. We did move seats and it was much better.
Everything else was excellent.
This is our second time to dine here for Sunday dinner , Booth ocassions the food came out cold and we had to send it back , won't be returning
We had a very enjoyable meal last Friday night. The food and ambiance were excellent. One small comment, the room was quite cold, which is not something we usually associate with the place.
Whilst food was nice the service was very very poor. Waiter abrupt verging on rude when asked about delay with our order. When food arrived the children's meals had been forgotten & arrived after adults had finished their meal. Extra desert arrived which we had not ordered & were told would be taken off bill. It was not & we had to wait again for revised bill. All the tables around us had similar problems with service. Very disappointing
Food was nice , staff friendly but room was cold and too dark. Had to ask for another candle for the table
Nice and cosy and staff where
Very poor meal on new year's day. Wasnt expecting the sunday regular lunch menu. Nothing festive no Turkey, not even pudding mince pies x mass cake on the menu. Breast of chicken arrived as a small fillet with two tiny parsnips. This particular main course was only tepid to eat and not worth its price of 18.00 Over all we found the food way overpriced for what we were served. Food Bill was roughly 100 for 3 people. Food was very like a carvery/bar food. Not what I expected for a nice new years day meal. Very disappointing. We did mention the chicken was served as a fillet to the waitress when we were leaving. She said it should have been a full breast of chicken and seemed very surprised that we were served a tiny fillet. She said she'd pass onto the chef. Overall very disappointed.
Had an outstanding meal, the only downside was we were upstairs and a fire was lit and the room was very Smokey.
However, the food is amazing in there and the host is always so welcoming. We will definitely be back again. One of my favorite restaurants.
Had a lovely family Christmas lunch here on 22nd December. Food really good, service excellent. It was very busy but the service team is highly efficient and very pleasant. The live music added to the atmosphere
Considering this was a Christmas group booking at peak time, the food and service was excellent.
Disappointed with the dining experience. We were not given the early bird menu even though our booking was for 6.30pm. We had ordered our food when we realised this. Very draughty even though we were close to the fire. Value for money poor.
My friend was late and we were asked about 4 times did we want to order even after we explained we were waiting on someone. It turned out my friend did not want to eat (I didn´t know it beforehand) and the waitress made a point of stressing this as if to pressure my friend. I didn´t appreciate the pressure to order fast or the pressure from the staff to order some food.
The place was not packed out so I don´t really understand the reason for pushing us to order so much.
While the staff are really efficient and when I´m there and just want to order food and have a meal they are great but this time I felt harassed.
Otherwise, the place was it´s usual charming self, there was a lovely atmosphere, nice discrete music, we had a chance to have a lovely chat as it´s not loud. The food was very acceptable.
Staff very friendly and helpful, we were late coming in and I felt relieved that non of the staff showed any negativity for the delays caused on our side. We had a birthday at our table and I asked for a cake with candle - floor staff all came to sing a happy birthday which was very nice and made it very special. Food was lovely as allays. Thank you for a lovely evening :)
Beautiful food, lovely location, and the atmosphere was spot on.
Love going to the Anglers Rest, beautiful food, the ambiance and staff are very friendly and helpful.
We had a fabulous family meal, and an impromptu rendition of Happy Birthday for my father in law. Beautiful food, fantastic service and warm, welcoming staff. Our table was close to a speaker, music was loud initially but when live music started, it was much easier on the ear and conversation. Thank you so much, we will be back!
I really wanted to love our dinner, having been there some years ago and still remembering how delicious our meal was we had high expectations. But it didn’t blow us away.
Hit and miss, some food was lovely other food just good.
Service slow and not attentive. Draft from the door was unpleasant and the kitchen noise was distracting, guess it’s some oven related alert that kept beeping behind my head.
Wouldn’t be rushing back
It is a cosy, down to earth venue with a a lovely atmosphere. Consistently good, simple traditional food done well. Staff were courteous and efficient, everything came out in good time and the food was great.
I really enjoyed the uilleann pipes in the background. Lovely unique place to go for a special meal.
Food was nice but took 40 minutes to get food. Very poor service
Food was excellent ( a great pint too), service was also excellent, very attentive staff especially the manager who was a really nice guy and regularly checked with my wife and I that everything was to our liking , When we ordered a taxi it arrived promptly, a really nice evening all around
The food is great, the setting is lovely and the staff are really good. It is a little expensive for what it is but overall I'd recommend it. Went on a Thursday and it was busy but didn't feel cramped. It had a relaxed feel and the staff were on the ball without being in your face. Have no problem going back again
I went for Sunday dinner & they were only providing a lunch menu which was limited. There was notice in their site or at the venue that dinner was the lunch menu. We left as the selection did not accommodate for the needs of 2 of the guests.
Love going here. Perfect place to catch up with friends. Lovely atmosphere, noise level perfect for chatting. Also well within everyone's budget. Food is second to none and service is friendly and excellent. Cannot speak more highly of here.
Food and service and venue lovely. Had a gorgeous fire lighting and lovely traditional music playing which was lovely as were were dining with visitors from the UK, although a little hard to hear due to function upstairs. The only downside were the toilets. Could do with an upgrade!
My family and I love the food at the anglers rest since Ollie took it over. We love the ambiance and the staff are a pleasure to be served by. There’s so much thought in the decor and I love the candles. Thank you for A lovely evening.
Anglers Rest is a fantastic restaurant. The food is always fresh, presented beautifully, and the portions are generous. The ambiance is very welcoming and every time we have gone, there has always been live music playing in the background. The staff are very attentive. Would highly recommend.
I booked a table for 8.30pm for my boyfriend and I. Upon arrival we ordered our drinks and food as we knew what we wanted, we were waiting an insanely long amount of time. At 9.30pm I asked one of the servers where our food was and he just said it was on the way. We received our food at 9.45pm, this is an hour and 15 mins we waited on our food!! We didn’t even get an apology off any of the staff! This is unacceptable and unprofessional, We will not be back here again.
Early bird options were poor.
