A beautiful restaurant but the dining experience is let down by poor tasteless food badly prepared some elements badly cooked and presented. We waited a while for our food which was surprising as it wasn’t busy. We didn’t mind waiting if the food had been excellent when it arrived. I have sent an email to Wygstons House explaining our experience and i’m hoping to be contacted to discuss it further. We did tell the waitress at the time.
Lovely Food, very good service, well stocked bar. On top of this the restaurant was peaceful enough to relax, enjoy the food and engage in conversation.
Good Food,Service was good,not intrusive.Price about right,
I had high expectations for the meal. Restaurant was quiet, food was tasteless. It was a Saturday night and a large group of blokes arrived swearing and being loud. We paid and left.
Beautiful building with so much history. Had read mixed reviews on this restaurant but worries unfounded. Sunday lunch was faultless too full to manage a dessert after first and second courses. Who wrote that portions small? All in all a wonderful meal in a superb location. Will definitely recommend to friends and family. No cruet sets on table but not needed. This chef definitely understands seasoning. Thank you to all the staff for such a superb dining experience.
Excellent food; excellent service, both in the bar and the restaurant.
Great service from Alex and Zack Good value for money and a wide menu choice
Would go again
Really great food and service, relaxed venue with rustic interior and range of beverages.
Slightly noisy as we were sat right next to a speaker but other than that the food was lovely! The staff were very friendly and attentive, would definitely recommend to a friend.
Easy to book online. Varied menu, good service and good food.
Most enjoyable experience! Will definitely be back!
Food was good but overall not totally impressed as I thought I would be. Staff not trained to a high standard. Leaning over diners with other plates. Standing putting lipstick on in full view of diners. Building old and beautiful but stair carpet needed a good clean and diners can see into the service area with sinks, freezers, fridges not the best view when you are there for the full experience.
A fantastic building which is worth a visit to experience. Unfortunately the food was disappointing and did not match the location. The portions are small and do not meet the expectation given by the menu description. The quality of the wine was also below average. There seemed to be an issue with the music which was either too loud and was then turned down, off or changed throughout the evening, which made things feel a bit chaotic. The service was good and friendly and everyone is trying hard to please but it doesn't quite work. I would come again and use the bar.
45 minutes for food to arrive, even though no other tables awaiting food. No apology or offer of breads etc., 2 items not available from the menu. The basil and spinach pasta was overcooked, soggy, tasteless and bland. The stairs going up to the restaurant needed a vacuum. On asking for the bill we were told to pay downstairs!!! What happened to waitress service? Overall disappointed and felt I paid for food and service that wasn’t worth it.
This is a brilliant venue full of character and history. The food was amazing and well worth the money. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was quiet (although we were there quite early). I would highly recommend having dinner here and then popping downstairs for a drink at the bar or in one of the 2 ‘living rooms’.
Lovely food, great value and comfortable surroundings. Staff were very helpful.
They really looked after us. I am celiac and they did really great to make me feel safe and comfortable.
Will definitely go back. Food was lovely.
Excellent service and superb food with generous portions, highly recommend the chicken and beef roast dishes as well as the steak.
We had a lovely meal with excellent service. Food very good indeed and a great menu. Beautiful building and restaurant was very quiet. Only one issue was that it was cold in the restaurant, I appreciate it’s an old, renovated building, but it was still too cold. Could this be addressed somehow? Other than that excellent,
Lovely venue for a nice time with friends
A reasonable meal - a shame when booking that I was not advised it was only the Christmas menu available - it was 30th November. Service was mixed depending upon who was serving - one waiter had excellent product knowledge and for a less mature employee provided good service. i would suggest avoiding tables near the service area that should be curtained off. Restaurant toilets would also be a real improvement to avoid a long walk downstairs and the large numbe4 of drinkers rather than diners.
Lovely restaurant. We arrived early and staff went out of their way to accommodate us and we were the only people in the restaurant which was lovely. the setting and décor is great. I had the Sea Bream and my husband had the Rump of Lamb. Both delicious. Would highly recommend and would definitely go back :)
Always good, imaginative dishes
Thought the portions were very small for the price
Wasn’t told that we would need extra veg/potatoes
Food was nice but there are better restaurants
The oldest standing home in Leicester, from the 1400s!!
The food was absolutely delicious and very well presented. The service was top-class too. Overall a great restaurant, very pleased
Wygston house is lovely my only point where I think they could improve is when it got a little busier staff were running in the restaurant and that’s not an exaggeration I think that affected the ambience for me and service began to fall we were waiting for someone to come over for over 20 mins several time through service. This needs to be improved. Also the passion fruit cheesecake - the top layer was very thick and gooey and base very hard nearly went flying off of our plates - room for improvement there also.
Glad I finally booked as the food was superb. Definitely go back 😊
Lovely restaurant, great food & ambience. Room was very warm due to outside temperature.
We enjoyed this place very much. The food was excellent as was the service.
We booked a table for 9 - we were the only ones eating at the restaurant and the service was shocking. It took 35 minutes for our sandwiches to arrive - 9 sandwiches and 4 portions of chips which is simply too long for a simple sandwich.
In addition, no-one greeted us in the restaurant and we had to enquire as to where we were seating - really poor front of house for a restaurant. They seem to put all their effort into the bar by the looks of it and eventually, their shocking service and neglect of diners will impact the reputation.
There was also inconsistencies - 3 of us ordered the same and 2 got a salad portion whilst one plate was served with soggy salad leaves.
Will never eat here again and would not recommend for food.
Lovely food & Drinks
Old building (still has an original old wall inside) photo added - excellent if you love historical stuff!
Overall fab experience!
We arrived 30 minutes early but that posed no problem. The staff were courteous and helpful. It was an early evening birthday celebration meal and there were only a few other diners during the 2 hours we spent there. The music volume was turned down as soon as it became too loud which is a rare blessing among today's restaurants which allow people to sit and shout at each other. The food was of good quality and tasty. I enjoyed the Żubrówka vodka and proper apple juice drink. My wife and daughter both said that they would recommend this eatery to others. Of course, the 16th century setting was top notch. A super experience.
Awesome experience. We hadn’t been before but the ambience, service, views, food and surroundings were spot on.
We described it as informally sophisticated. Would highly recommend!
Overall a good experience and enjoyable. Charming and polite staff, good food. For this price point and the clientele they are trying to attract, I think they need to work on refining the experience (entrance in to the bar and the hand-off up to the restaurant, paper napkins (really), very poor glassware for good wine, and asking who ordered what when the food arrives). I think this place has the potential to prosper.
Food was very nice.. Our table had the lamb and rump steak. All cooked very well. One negative was no chips available that day😂
Was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant, although I couldn't have timed this more badly. Everything we tried to order from the menu was sold out and no alternative was available. Surely the restaurant could restock or provide an alternative. They didn't have a good selection of drinks that we asked for, and the dessert was very disappointing, the base on the trifle was rock hard. The waiter offered us a discount and advised the dessert would be taken off the menu but it wasn't when we came to pay the bill. Overall very disappointed
I love to visit historic buildings and enjoy eating out in places that have character to them. I had friends visiting over the bank holiday weekend and wanted to take them to somewhere with a nice ambiance. All four of our party thoroughly enjoyed our meals which were all delicious. The staff were very pleasant and we didn't have to wait very long for our food to arrive. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all. We all agreed that we would visit Wygston House again.
A friendly welcome and excellent food. We enjoyed the 2 for 1 gin and tonics!
This restaurant had been recommended by a friend so I took my husband there for his birthday. The food and service were extremely good. One of the main reasons for going was to see how this historic building had been renovated. We found the renovations to be very sympathetic to the history of the building.
