While driving to many regions, he sampled great ramen from across Japan (often checking ingredients in other ramen shops’ rubbish) to try to come up with his own perfect ramen recipe.
Using scrap wood from a local school, he built his first ramen shop with his bare hands in 1969.
3 years later after putting all his efforts into his dream, his perfect ramen was realised as "Yamagoya ramen”. We proudly present our London pop up.

Best ramen in London. The soup was excelllent. The ambiance was poor
We had two fantastic (if unorthodox) bowls of different ramen, packed with flavour and good additions. Purists might disagree, but I thought it was great.
Desserts were a bit average, and the service was slow even on a quiet night.
Great Raman, raindrop cake is amazing! Will definitely go back.
Great service. Good food. Loved the raindrop cake.
It's just fabulous. The ramen is tasty, and small plates are good as well, fried chicken is juicy and enriched of Yuzu favour!!
Yuzu flavoured Ramen was really good and definitely worth traveling for. The mochi was great and the raindrop cake was the special attraction. Didn't taste like much but a novel experience!
Ramen was quite nice, i love the raindrop cake so much.
Really good atmosphere and great ramen. Affordable and great service.
Had to opt for the famous raindrop cake... was an experience.
One of the best bowls of ramen in London. Just go for the signature.
We loved loved the noodle. We had to order extra noodle. We will be back.
Amazing ramen in a quiet setting with excellent service.
A rare find of a quiet dinner place just above Shuang Shuang in Soho on a Friday evening, perfect for a catch up session with friends. Delicious ramen, Gyoza and chicken karaage.
Yamagoya did not disappoint - phenomenal broth for a tasty and authentic ramen, a great selection of add ons, and an open concept kitchen. If you are looking for authentic ramen, this is the place for it.
Best ramen I ever had in my life. And I've had a lot of ramen before
There is plenty of competition for pho in London, particularly in this area, but yamagoya has to be up there with the best. Simple menu, great flavours, easy as that!
Star dish - the karaage. And a bowl of ramen for everyone!
Ramen is very good, but the room is quite hot. If the ventilation could be improved, that would be better. Service is good. I would go back again.
Delicious food, expert Ramens. A novelty and a treat.
Great pre-theatre meal. Very quick, friendly service. Delicious.
The best Ramen I had in London so far. If you love spicy don't miss Tobanjan ramen that was perfect combination between spicy and pork bone broth. Also add extra egg as the star of the meal.
Being a ramen obsessive, I had to come and try out this latest opening in London. The gyozas were made fresh to order, karage was well balanced with the wasabi mayo and the ramen was great. You can specify the hardness of the noodles and the Yamagoya ramen was definitely the one to have. The eggs were well-seasoned. The chicken ramen was too salty towards the end. My friend loved his chili ramen for those who love the kick. I'll definitely be back again. Hopefully they find a permanent spot soon!
Really worth coming here for the ramen noodle broth that is the house speciality. Pork and chicken based broths are available. Excellent flavours and texture. Gyosa pork dumplings were good as a starter as was the green tea ice cream based dessert. Limited menu but if you like Japanese noodles this is the place. Located above and existing restaurant very convenient for Leicester Square so could be easily combined with a cinema or theatre visit.
The broth flavour as well as noodles consistency were beyond expectation and made for one of best ramens. Recommend the yamagoya with hard noodles.
The best Ramen I have had in London quite comfortably. I feel if the restaurant itself was more smartly decorated they could charge a lot more for it. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very reasonable prices for the quantity and quality. Casual place to eat with friends
The ramen at Yamagoya was really good. Just to be clear - it's a ramen joint so if you aren't planning on ordering that I wouldn't bother. Atmosphere is nothing special since its just the upstairs of Shuang Shuang, but the food makes it worth it. Recommend!
I had an amazing bowl of the yamagoya ramen! It came packed with chashu pork, wood ear mushrooms and a soft boiled egg cut in half. The pork bone broth was rich and silky and totally delicious, the ramen (cooked to the softness of your choice) were perfect. Although incredibly filling, I managed to eat the lot and would have liked to lick the bowl. It really doesn’t get much better than this!
Like signature dish Yamagoya Ramen very much; and the dessert is very special too!
The food was to die for.
The Tonkotsu was full of depth of flavour.
The Charshu was soft and tender with great taste.
All the toppings a perfect match, and the best egg I have eaten outside of Japan.
It was a great touch to have the choice of soft, medium and hard noodles.
I went for hard, and they were brilliant.
I have had many ramen in London and in Japan, and I have to say that this is the best outside of Japan for me.
I highly recommend.
The Broth was full depth of flavour, with amazing noodles. Very authentic.
Service was attentive, friendly and polite.
Great atmosphere, and overall a very good dining experience.
I would definitely return and recommend.
The best ramen I've ever had
Authentic japanese ramen
Love love love <3
Plus chicken karaage and asahi, can't go wrongggggggggggg
The same great quality as i tasted in japan! yummy yummy~
I love the marinated eggs so much, can't believe that i am enjoying them in london!
Wanted a quick bite before going to see La La Land and was drawn by the recent FT review, not to mention the proximity to the cinema. Also a steaming bowl of noodles seemed like a good idea on a cold January evening. I had the signature pork broth with noodles while my wife had the chicken one. Both were very tasty though hers marginally edged it. The seaweed salad was a little bland but the gyoza were delicious. All in all a highly satisfactory, and well-priced meal with good, attentive service. Not the must buzzing ambiance but I didn't mind that. Will return.
Nice atmosphere. Delicious broth. Good beer. A fun place to visit in the evenings.
Must try the Yuzukara ramen!! The broth is real yuzu - I mean real, green in colour, tasty yuzu broth :D Even it is a pop up restaurant, the staff are so professional and knowledgable with the food. Please settle in London permanently <3
Heard this place from my friend. Was fully impressed. Pity it is a Pop up. Please stay in London!!!!
Creamy and porky tonkotsu, springy noodle, to-die-for egg, tender Chashu. What more can you ask for?
Tried to go there during New Year but it was too busy. Finally had a chance. Just like tonkotsu I had in Japan. Love it. Will be back soon.
Already left a review at the restaurant. Open Table, get away from my data please. And make the e-mail/mobile advices optional - not all of us want all the alerts, all the time. Only used you as the restaurant required it.
I've eaten at Yamagoya twice now and really enjoyed the food both times. The ramen are really authentic and very filling. The gyoza and karaage are also well worth a try (the best gyoza I've had in London for a while!).
Like all of these places its not somewhere to linger for a romantic meal but for a quick and reasonably priced bite to eat I'd recommend it.
