The first time I have been here. To start, the food is excellent. Unfortunately, the ambience isn’t. I was left feeling a little cold after the experience which is a shame. The potential is amazing and with a little work they could charge considerably more and be packed out. As an overall experience its missing something. On food alone a fantastic place to have a meal. I will definitely be back with the hope we perhaps had a little quiet evening on our first visit.
Had a beautiful meal in a lovely setting. The service was excellent and we all had a lovely evening
Everyone enjoyed their meal immensely, we will definitely be back.
Repeat visit, brilliant on each occasion. Service is slightly clunky but lovely surroundings, lovely staff and wonderful food. Can’t fault this place and amazing value for money.
Really outstanding vegetarian food, made from locally sourced ingredients. Only 1 vegetarian main, but they did make me a larger version of a starter on the 2nd evening. Worth asking if they have a big party in the restaurant, as this increases noise levels (but still reasonable, and I'm fussy about noise levels). Staff very friendly and willing to please.
Lovely food, presentation was great and fabulous service. Bar had good selection of alcohol, particularly gins.
Wonderful food, seven course starter menu great value
Beautiful food that was extremely well priced.
I would definitely recommend the tasting menu it was very good, well presented and thoughtfully put together.
Having never visited the Yarrow and after a recommendation for family to stay there for Christmas, we decided an advance visit would be in order.
With exception of initially driving past it, as we arrived in the evening and from our direction of approach the signage for the college is more prominent at the entrance than the hotel, we were not disappointed. The food, service and range of wines were excellent.
We have recommended it to friend. We will return not only on Christmas Day, with our family, but also for a weekend away where we look forward to perhaps trying the tasting menu and experiencing the accommodation.
Exceptional food great service and wonderful atmosphere cannot wait to return in the new year
We booked a table here as my daughter and son had given me a gift voucher for a present, upon arriving we found the restaurant very quiet/ empty and this theme continued all evening, we chose to have the 7 course taster menu as it sounded very nice ( big mistake) the pork terrine was very dry and the fillet of beef and the venison were tough and very chewey, the best course we thought was the roasted cod, the soufflé was acceptable.
the cheese and crackers were very nice but obviously didn’t need any cooking.
When looking at the menu they only had one red wine on it which we said we would have as nothing else available, upon bringing and sampling the wine it was sharp and disgusting and we said we could not drink it, the waiter said just a minute and then came back with a wine list, we ordered a bottle of Merlot and that was lovely, we could not understand why we were not shown this wine list before.
We were both disappointed with the food as was supposed to be a fine dining, which we found hard to believe as I personally could have cooked a better meal at £40 a head, the ambience in the restaurant was poor and the fact the restaurant was almost empty says it all to us, after this experience we would never dine here again very dissatisfied with it, the waiters were attentive but good food would have completed it, sorry Yarrow but not sorry a spoilt what should have been a special occasion
The food and service was very good the only disappointing thing was choice of menu. The Christmas menu was all that was available but we will certainly visit the Yarrow again
3 course (choice on menu) lunchtime meal was excellent value. The food and service are outstanding.
It requires more people to book to enjoy the experience and create more atmosphere within the restaurant as it deserves.
Family lunch with 5 adults and 2 small children, food was excellent, wait staff attentive and ensured that they found off menu suitable food for my children. Lovely fresh warm bread rolls too. Will definitely be back.
Excellent food and great service. Lovely treat and helpful staff. We thoroughly recommend the Yarrow for a special meal and celebration. Attentive service and a relaxed atmosphere.
Tasty Sunday lunch. There is a set menu at a set price for two or three courses. Tastefully decorated surroundings. Service was good. We would return again.
We had a wonderful experience at the Yarrow restaurant. This is how a restaurant should be. The service was impeccable, the food divine, the décor and lighting level spot on. Even the toilets were immaculate. I particularly loved the fact that you could hear the sound of cutlery on plate over everything else, and not the usual cacophony of everyone trying to out-shout everyone else. I absolutely would recommend this restaurant to everyone who appreciates the points I have made above, but please, no riff-raff. Now I've found this place I will be a regular.
Lovely setting, professional staff and exquisite food. We had the seven course tasting menu, all courses excellent, especially the corn soup appetiser and the fillet beef. Great value for such quality at £40 a head.
Excellent food and service, would recommend and will be going back.
Staff are lovely, very welcoming. Food was nice tasty Sunday Roast. Loose one star as the meat was cut very thick. we had Lamb and Dad's was a bit gristly and he couldn't really cut it. they offered another Roast I got him Roast beef to try but that was a bit rare for him. I enjoyed mine though.
Really enjoyed our visit would have liked the veg to be cooked a little more as very hard particularly the carrots which we all left. This will not stop us visiting again
The food was beautiful and service excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal
We had a really nice evening at the yarrow starting with super polite waiters in the bar area, followed by amazing service in the restaurant, the food was extremely good, an all round lovely place to eat, We will be going back
Easy booking system. Very good and polite staff serving excellent food, overall pleasant experience.
We had the tasting menu with the wine flight, and I would recommend this to anyone (as long as you've got a reasonable appetite...probably a good idea not to eat much else in the day). We've had the tasting menu about three or four times now, and though the menu does change, it has always been of a consistently high standard. I also think it represents very good value. The duck was cooked to perfection, and other dishes were tasty, imaginative and well presented. If I had to come up with some constructive criticism, I would say that maybe the main dining room is slightly lacking in atmosphere...possibly something to do with the acoustics of the room, but this is a minor niggle. Overall we love the Yarrow for dinner, and I can also recommend the Sunday lunch there.
A great night, tarnished only by the staff being very slow to check in with us and bring us the bill after dessert, but there was a very large table that was probably distracting.
We had the tasting menu with matched flight wines. The food was tasty, well presented and just the right quantity for a tasting menu, the wines were well matched and we were served good measures. The staff were attentive, friendly and professional. We have had tasting at some of best restaurants, including Jamie’s, Gordon’s and Heston’s as well as many others. This food was easily was good as those we have had before and better than some and for the price it was really good value. I can imagine it’s only going to be a matter of time before the chef gets his first Michelin Star or two. We will certainly recommend it to all our friends and family. Lovely night in a friendly welcoming atmospheric surroundings.
Return visit and again had a superb meal thank you
Food was well presented, colourful and delicious and of excellent quality. The restaurant is bright and modern and I look forward to going again.
We visited for dinner and were not disappointed. Our meals were very tasty and the service was excellent. We have already recommended Yarrow Restaurant to friends.
Amazing restaurant, a perfect mix of formal and non formal, will definitely attend regularly
We were able to get a reservation at short notice and opted for the taster menu.
It was perfect. The service was excellent and the 2 gentlemen serving were able to give us some tips for our stay.
The food was traditional with a gentle twist, prepared perfectly and very enjoyable. Outstanding value.
Had high expectations as recommended by friend. Stood in foyer for few minutes before approached by member of staff who directed us to bar to “sign in”. No spare seats, tables set up in bar area for afternoon tea. We were there for Sunday lunch. Headed into adjacent lounge with drinks, we were visible to staff. No menu offered, had to ask for menu. Moved into bar area when table free. Order taken. Staff did not advise roast beef was very rare. Noticed a few people commenting on how rare beef was. My pork dish was very good but the 2 beef dinners were a little disappointing. Desserts were the star of the meal.Staff quite slow to respond to requests. My glass of wine sat on bar for several minutes before being brought to table. Found bar prices quite expensive. Overall not a good as I had hoped but will try again in future.
Great food. Very friendly service with good times between courses. Very nice evening would recommend
Food was fab. Every course was delicious. However, the service did seem somewhat rushed. Had we not slowed things down we could have been finished in just over an hour. A 7 course tasting menu usually takes between 2-3 hours. Yes we were the last in the dining room but we should still have been given more time between courses. Then we would have given 5 stars all round. We also had the wine flight and apart from the dessert wine, we received little information about each glass of wine and sometimes no information. Those serving should be properly trained to provide information.
We were very impressed by the level of service and quality of food.
The only slight minus point was the music. Classical music - eg. Classic FM - would enhance the overall ambience better.
A delightful Mother’s Day lunch, lovely surroundings, delicious food and excellent service
We had the tasting menu with the wine flight. All courses were extremely good and the wine very tasty and worked very well. The service was excellent. Not all the tables were taken so sadly a little light on ambience. Not really the restaurants fault. A very enjoyable evening. I would say that generally the price is fairly high but ok for a special dinner. The tasting menu and wine flight for 2 people was £130.
The service was second to none and we were extremely well looked after. From the starter through the main course to desert was really well cooked, full of flavour and presented beautifully. Would highly recommend the Yarrow Restaurant and the hotel as a whole
Our waitress was very helpful as she ensured that we could delay ordering when one of our guests was significantly delayed. The meal was of a high quality, combining good presentation with sufficient quantity. Together with our drinks, it certainly represented very good value.
This was our 1st time at the Yarrow and we did not know what to expect. We started in the bar , where the staff were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was very comfortable, the service was impeccable and the food looked amazing and tasted amazing too. We had the seven course taster menu. We really enjoyed our experience and plan to visit again to sample the A La carte Menu.
