Ye Olde Swan
Crispy Chicken Burger
with dressed mixed leaves
COVID 19 didnt help but the food wasnt good and was very hard to eat off the paper plate with a wooden fork!!
We had a great evening. Enjoyed a pizza, prosecco and live music. Service was great. Can’t wait to go back.
A nice location, the pub is closed and all activity is in the garden, limited bar selection and facilities bbq menus or pizza only. An update on their web site would be useful and it would allow customer expectation. COVID has become a excuse for poor service delivery.
Had a wonderful few hours celebrating my birthday with family in the pub garden. Can't speak highly enough of the staff, the service was exceptional.
Beutiful setting beside the river Thames.
Food was lovely
Staff very helpful
Lighting around the trees at night was lovely.
We stopped here for lunch while walking the Thames. There is no indoor dining and that’s fine on a good day, not sure it’ll work in winter. There was a limited menu, mostly burgers of one sort or another. I had pulled pork which had far too much sickly sauce. Food has to be ordered at a separate kiosk to drinks with queues for both, which was a bit of a pain.
The old pub itself is lovely (but only accessible for toilets) and the setting by the river is great.
In the current situation (virus) the Swan experience was very commendable. Visited twice in a week with good food, service and atmosphere on both occasions. Highly recommended.
We had a great table by the river in a beautiful garden, fantastic setting and great service.
They have really tried to do their best to service customers throughout the covid restrictions however this did lead to a very limited ,not so healthy menu unfortunately which is out of their control.
The Website and pub looked amazing and i booked and was looking forward to it. I had to amend my booking and messaged the Swan directly. At no time did they make me aware that we would be sitting outside under a marquee, no table service, no need to book and no menu - just hot dog and burgers. Really disappointed not to have been made aware as 1st night of holiday.
I understand the need for Covid-secure measures and it was a great idea having everything outside but the menu was very limited and quite expensive - £10 for a basic hotdog and some chips just seemed excessive and it wasn't actually very nice - I ended up leaving some of it even though I was really hungry.
It is a lovely river setting and the only place we could really stop on our walk plus the staff were friendly.
Charming setting, cleverly laid-out, decorated and lit. Easy to book. Great anti-Covid efforts. Menu not too limited given the circumstances. Friendly staff all round (we were using camp site too). We will be returning!
No one there to greet us despite what it said on the website; and open table booking only confirmed three days after we visited. We were expected to self sign in on a sheet on public display which breaks data protection rules and people were arriving without doing this so track and trace not implemented properly.
The staff serving were excellent so down to poor management. Nice location. Won't be going back until covid over though.
Food was of a very poor standard.... very disappointed!
Ordered fish fillet burger but not available so they offered scampi as an alternative ..... my meal consisted of a paper plate of poor quality oven chips and scampi .... no salad or greenery to make the meal look more appealing... presentation and effort was shocking! Was told that the regular chef had left a few days prior.... explains it all!! Will not be returning or recommending!
The pizza was served piping hot in its own box, perfect for this covid season. We had a table by the water and enjoyed a lovely evening.
I thought the food was lovely but over priced for what you got, for burger and chips is around £15 and comes out on paperplates and cardboard knife and forks and your drinks are in plastic cups which i paid £3 for a pint of coke to come out of a coke bottle which would have cost them £1 and because it came from a bottle means the coke goes flat quicker. But generally a nice place to sit by the river and the staff were helpful and friendly I would go again but probably just for a drink.
This is a lovely place. Staff where very friendly and the service was great. Can not wait to go back.
We weren't informed when we booked that the inside of the pub is closed due to covid19. Luckily the weather was ok, so we sat in the garden.
The food was ok, but only a restricted BBQ menu was offered and it was expensive for the quality, £10 for a basic bland burger served on a paper plate with wooden cutlery!
Nice garden overlooking the river.
No words not a good experience. Very overpriced and unfriendly staff.
Food was Bbq outside and establishment was not taking part in Eat Out to help Out which probably made it the most expensive place in the area on the night. However the food was very good and plentiful, not sure why had timed entry as had to queue for food as Bbq was not open at our table time. A couple of other points bamboo cutlery whilst commendable from green point of view, makes it a struggle to cut a burger and having paid £17 for a bottle of wine not £16 as stated on bar tariff was appalled to be given plastic tumblers surely it’s not too big a stretch to disposable wine glasses...
Great food and really covid secure. Went camping over the road and nice walk over bridge to the pub. Perfect.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and informative. Food was lovely.
Need 2 people serving drinks as long wait. Could the menu be more varied now? Very limited choice of food currently. It’s a nice place and spacious to sit outside.
Left waiting at the entrance for around 7 minutes with no interaction from anyone. Waitress completely ignored me when I tried to get her attention then told only the pizza trailer and MAYBE the bbq might open soon. Before coming I read some bad reviews but wanted to give the benifet of the doubt. Ended up driving 10 minutes down the road to the plough pub which was really nice.
Absolutely a total rip off! We will actively avoid go to the Swan, redcoat ever again! The wrong order was delivered for both meals and the man behind the BBQ - Huh, thats a joke! was very rude and reacted that it was our fault he provided two wrong orders. The food was very poor quality and was expensive. The salad was limp and unpalatable. Rubbish sausages in a stale bun and tasteless onions. Chips where hard and dry. And they didn't do the government help £10 off deal. A total scam and we will tell everyone we know to never go to The Swan, Radcot ever again.
Booked a table online, but it was not reserved, arrived it was raining -outside eating currently only. Staff were not that helpful. Got told to try & find a Table that had an umbrella up. I had to ask for a bin bag to sit on. Would have left but it was a birthday meal.
Food was obviously pre cooked, stale hot dog bun & cold chilli on top. Only good thing was the chips. Staff looked miserable, had to ask for basic condiments. Large marquee with 4 tables under & all taken.
Sunny day great, if not don’t bother.
I found the food Expensive for what it was.
If Iv reserves a table I would of expected to find a table reserved for us!!! In the dry marquee area.
Staff should be friendly & helpful what ever the weather. Had to get drinks ourself from a hit & stand in the rain. Had to order our own food- luckily under cover.
I will go for a drink as we will stop on our boat but won’t bother with the food which is a shame. I had heard good things about this pub, but was very disappointed
Well done for getting a food service up and running under COVID. Thanks to all the staff for being so helpful and welcoming
Great venue but food was expensive for the quality.
I’d go back again for drinks on a sunny day.
The wait for the food was quite long and when it appeared it was quite disappointing for the price
Menu rubbish, I don’t eat burgers, come on need to ensure all are catered for. Won’t be back until it changes.
It was our first pub lunch since the Lockdown and we enjoyed it very much. Helpful and friendly staff. Food choice was plentiful and varied. We will certainly return.
Awful! Walked out! They were on the help out eat out but took themselves off and didn’t tell anyone! Booking of 22 people plus came and moved tables around so they could sit together! The manager blocked me on messenger when I was trying to explain to him what went wrong! The whole reason that we went was because they were part of the help out eat out scheme. Food wasn’t served till 6pm even though we had a time frame and booked at 17.30! But no one told us this until after we had bought drinks.Majority Of the menu wasn’t available no fish no chicken just burgers, there are people stepping over lines and not adhering to Covid! Not going back! So disappointed
Had a lovely meal and drinks by the river , great location and feels safe , everything is clearly marked to avoid contact with others
The food was terrible, caujan chicken was so dry none on our table Could eat it. Customers were not social distancing. So busy kids running g everywhere.
Hour long queue for the bar. Different menu to the one stated on their website, with much less option and hiked up prices. We ordered two pizzas, a fries and a side salad. Had to queue separately for the sides as you can’t order both in the same place.
It cost around £45 (£30-ish for the pizzas, £4 for the fries and £11 for the side salad). When we queried the price we were shown the other menu, which said the salad came with chicken etc, but I wasn’t offered any option so it was a small bowl of lettuce with tomato and goats cheese thrown on top. Not even a dressing. The table next to us were complaining that it cost them nearly £80 for four burgers.
The pizzas were undercooked and the dough had been over proved. There was tomato purée instead of passata, very little cheese and raw tomatoes on top. It had been thrown in the box.
Clearly they are milking the captive audience of campers and boaters, with no concern about whether or not anyone will return. We’re local and eat out at least once a week. We will absolutely not be eating here ever again. Pitiful.
We went for the BBQ booking for 5pm only to find out the BBQ didn't start until 6 which wasn't mentioned on the website.
So we ordered pizza instead being told there was a half an hour wait which was fine. After an hour I went and asked where our pizza was to discover they had lost the ticket. They apologised and said we'll put yours in immediately.
Half an hour later still no pizza so I again I went and asked only to be told our tickets was third in line so they still hasn't gone in. The waitress was very apologetic bit the lady putting the pizzas in the over who had told us she'd donors straight away just flat ignored me.
We got a refund nearly 2 hours after arriving having had no food.
Also the queue for the outdoor and only bar was permanently very long, and surely could be managed more effectively.
The setting is great, the food and drink when you can get it is good and most of the staff are really good so it's a shame our experience this time was terrible.
Fantastic good. Good service. Excellent atmosphere
Unfortunately we had to wait well over an hour for our food, and the queue for the drinks was approx 20 mins long. We understand it’s hard working under the new COVID restrictions and all the staff were really nice and working really hard, but I think they book too many people in to be able to fulfil the catering within the time allowed.
Food was amazing! Limited bbq menu due to Covid-19 but really good options something for everyone! Lovely environment and one way systems in place with good social distancing too! A bit for everyone, paddle board hire available from here too perfect for a summers day
Had the wood fired pizza which was good. The pub garden atmosphere was nice.
Campsite - given that your site says no noise after 10pm I was very surprised that camping here was probably the noisiest campsite I've ever stayed at with the exception of a festival. Our group didn't mind this too much, I have good ear plugs, but the music and noise from large groups on site went on well past 1am. I'm sure the other family campers weren't so forgiving.
I think the toilets and showers could be cleaned more regularly. The mens were reportedly pretty bad. Womens not too bad but when i went to the shower at 8am they were very dirty so not sure what time they get cleaned.
I would stay here again but an onside presence from management is probably a good idea.
Service was good given Covid circumstances. Pulled pork burgers were good, Cajun chicken burger, chicken was dry. Table near to us seating 10/12 noisy which wasn’t a problem, but lots of swearing with lots of children around, unacceptable in a family pub.
Campsite toilets were a disgrace Saturday morning, with excrement on floor, doors and toilet seats and no running water in sinks.
