Soba noodles are prepared daily in the main restaurant inside the Soba room, where our highly skilled chefs will knead the dough and cut it fresh for each service.
Pre theatre Royal Opera House. Terrible service Disgusting food awful awful awful
I was very pleased. It was a proper traditional Japanese soba, indeed.
This is really nice restaurant, service was very attentive and food good enough but unfortunately both of us had upset stomach straight after the meal.
Food is excellent, especially Tofu and Soba. But the quality of tempura is not as good as before. I would like to have a simple Chawanmushi if possible.
not well-trained staff.
they think guests are very close friend. they should have some coutesy to costomer.
I think management doesn't pay attention to train staff.
it is a pity even though food is great.
Truly outstanding Japanese cuisine, with a remarkable wine & sake list, excellent service and lovely ambience.
Lunch with the family. Being from Japan we enjoyed the genuine taste as well as the more modern takes using the seasonal ingredients from uk and europe. Great space, friendly and pro staff on top of that.
Very pleased with everything I like bamboo restaurants, the way they change your plates beautiful plate decorations definitely i will go again
Way too expensive for what ypu get
We have eaten in many sushi restaurants in London and I would say this is the best yet . Quality , authenticity and attentive service made it a winner for us. Try it out !
We had excellent time during our family dinner at Yen
Disappointing client dinner. The waitress at one point walked away from our table muttering “rude” clearly aimed at us and I can assure you her comments were unfounded. What would have been a very pleasant experience was totally ruined.
The manager apologised and tried to make up by offering a lot of on the house drinks etc. Such a shame experience and food was actually good.
Yen has a very good atmosphere. Friendly people and good food.
Like the starters and tempura.
Decent place for date.
Nice open spaced out and comfortable seating. Food is great and authentic
I love Yen ever since my first visit and dine when I am in London.
Everything perfect, envience, staff, food and Japanese washlet.
I especially enjoy in-house produced soba, either hot or cold.
The best authentic Japanese restaurant at the moment.
I will go back again soon.
The food was great but the whole experience has been spoilt by the service which was disappointing. The welcoming is like that of a classy posh restaurant: they take care of your wardrobe, take you to the table, make you sit and place the towel elegantly. So the start is very promising. However after that good start it’s over with the quality of service. The room is very wide and cold, there’s a long wait for the food which can be expected but the way waiters behave is inconsistent. After taking orders you feel left alone. Waiters wander randomly and don’t pay attention anymore. Our waiter passed by and 3-4 times and kept saying our food was about to arrive but it was never the case which started to feel embarassing and awkward. A pity as the food is authentic and good.
The decor and ambience is excellent, calming and modern. The food/drink is expensive (water £4.50 a bottle, two small pieces of cod £29) I would suggest you research the menu before arriving to ensure you choose wisely.
High quality Japanese and related food, with exquisite service. The main restaurant space is spare and modern, and perhaps the ceiling is a bit too high for the intimacy the well-spaced tables would imply. It's possible to spend an awful lot of money here, but there are reasonably good-value options. Of the specials menu I had udon with mushrooms and poached egg, and a half fried-aubergine with an unexpected but very good cheese sauce; perfect chocolate fondant for dessert.
This time we had soba(Japanese noodle), and it was very nice and real Japanese. Also desserts were interesting, Japanese taste. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was just good.
Yen is an excellent Japanese restaurant and may be the only one in London which makes its own soba noodles. The rest of the japanese cuisine that we sampled was also excellent.
Everything was amazing - all the dishes, accept the black code (scores 8 out of 10) and miso salmon (2 out of 10). Throughly recommend for any occasion.
The food did remind me of Japan, but feel overall not really value for money. Very small portions, rather overpriced and lacking ambiance. The restaurant was very empty and the bar was completely empty on a Saturday night!
Amazing! Will def be back
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Yen. They were lovely with our 6-year old and the food was outstanding. The homemade tofu and chargrilled chicken was a highlight for me. My husband and daughter loved the oysters, yellow-tail sushi and hot soba. We will visit again soon.
Very delicious sushi and sashimi, high quality food. Attentive service. Recommended.
Great Japanese Food; nice to watch the open kitchen
Top quality dining experience. Service was friendly and efficient (sometimes too efficient) but not too intrusive.
Food quality was decent for a rLondon
Great quality hand made soba, and home made tofu here is amazing. Fantastic quality fresh seasonal sashimi, and sushi.
Great food. Ambience still remains a bit off, since it’s opening, especially at dinner where the restaurant just feels empty because of the layout and badly lit.
The soba was supposed to be home made? it was horrible compared to what I had in Japan. The noodles were stuck together. I am just glad that 2 people didn't turn up otherwise would have costed even more. Ordered 2 sobas, the black cod and the home made tofu. None of them were good, hence very disappointed. The place is quiet though, cos not many people.
really for a restaurant of this size and price range they should have way more gluten free options. The excuse of we imported this recipe from Japan is really weak.... I have had the good fortune of going to japan and at comparable places there I amazing meals... the waiter recommended I order the sashimi so I ordered chefs selection and was brought the most banal and widely available fish given how little I could order off the menu I would have at least expected something more interesting in the sashimi department. I will not be going back.
Everyone who worked there was super friendly and very accommodating. I love going to restaurants that has good services. It makes the experience so much better and much more pleasant - it makes me want to come back. The food was perfectly sized for 2 people (as I was there with one other friend) and the menu was just right, not too many options that made me confused and not too little, that made me wanting more. I love the alternative spins on what would have been traditionally served food
This was a great experience. It was expensive. Also the credit card machine didn’t work and resulted in my card being declined which was embarrassing. They called the next day to take my payment as it was their machines issue. Still embarrassing and in the US they would have compensated us in some way, but they didn’t.
Food is great and soba lunch was delicious.
The soba is hand made and just the right amount with the rice and vegetable tendon
Dessert was tasty too.
Loved it all. The staff were super helpful. We sat at the sushi counter and the chef was really engaging and explained our meal to us with great interest. Our soba was late coming out and the chef gave us some complementary sashimi while we waited, which was a lovely touch as we hadn’t complained about the wait but they noticed themselves.
I know well and like a lot the same restaurant Yen in Paris and i was very disappointed by the London one, too high ceiling, noisy and too much space not very cosy but not special design enough neither to justify the volume of the space.
Food was ok for the soba but so so for the main course (cod too much cooked) but globally the quality of dishes and great presentation there as usual with Yen.
Service typically London style not efficient and poor quality.
Location not that great a bit within a no mans land, close to Covent Garden but not close enough to make this place a spot to go.
Then conclusion: I may not go back there and I bet they will not last long except if they change dramatically.
Service is wonderful, and the food are delicious.
The mood of restaurant was nice and the server was very kind!
However, the taste of food was not that delicious!
Anyway the restaurant was jus fine.
A wonderful, authentic Japanese dining experience. The food was delicious and the service outstanding (thanks to our waiter Giuseppe).
