I ate here with some friends as an early Christmas catch up. We originally booked the Christmas menu online but when we arrived we were told that they didn’t have a festive menu available. After some discussion with the kitchen they managed to give us a Christmas main course but we were not able to access the second course from the Christmas menu (the offer we booked was for a 2 course menu for £25). The food tasted ok when it arrived but the service took ages (nearly an hour for the first course)– we were all starving when the food finally arrived and therefore didn’t enjoy it as much as we could have. In saying this the staff were all friendly and professional and the surroundings are beautiful (the restaurant is a bit away from the hustle and bustle of Camden which felt lovely).
Great meal & drinks. Will visit again and again. Has something for everyone, even kids menu. Plenty of mixed drinks & wine menu. The appetizer wings were amazing!
Service was impeccable as well as the food. Been several times and I am never disappointed. Quality of the food, drink, cutlery etc.
Food was disappointing - over-cooked chewy squid, crispy duck so crispy it cut the inside of my mouth and so much chilli it was hard to taste the duck. Unimaginative menu which had barely changed since our last visit.
Breakfast is delicious at Y&A, but service is patchy. You'd think toast might be made with more than what looks like Hovis thick cut and we had to ask twice for it and then again for jam (they weren't busy). OJ is freshly squeezed.
The coffee is a right faff - admittedly good coffees are made individually (therefore one is usually lukewarm by the time they are done) and you can't have a cafetiere, for a party of four this works out really expensive for 2 little cups each!
The environs are nice - light and airy - and everyone tries to be helpful. And there's a sign that says kids eat free.
We enjoyed the meal and prosecco but there was confusion with offer. We understood we were getting two hour prosecco brunch booked for two p.m after spending a lot of money at the bar which is self service (but you pay a service charge on all drinks) when we got to our table we were told the offer finished at two! This was sorted after a while. We eventually got our meal at three o clock which was nice but tiny portions. The bill arrived at double the amount we expected as the offer on OpenTable is badly worded. After embarrassing conversations for both us and the staff we came to an agreement but it did Marr the experience. Please echo the way it is worded on the restaurant menu so other people know that the prosecco is an additional cost of £25 per person if you order AND PAY for one course. We would come again but would ensure that what we book is what we get.
Service was not brilliant although some interesting people gave us a sideshow which was entertaining!
Met friends for breakfast and coffee. Service was relaxed but the staff member serving us was lovely with good interpersonal skills. Polite and friendly.
Nice dining area in the restaurant- airy and spacious.
Good place for catching up.
Service was a bit slow tonight
very poor service this time - waitress threw the menus at us and was very abrasive through whole dinner
The staff here are super efficient, polite and helpfull. The setting is very nice also, food was great and well priced £11 for a pizza.
The service was shambolic. While trying to get drinks at the bar before our dinner booking, we struggled to eventually get a passing waiter to take a drink orders from us. When we transferred to our table, it was very difficult to get the interest of our waitress throughout the meal.
Our food was good. Again, we had to wait a long time to order more drinks.
After paying the bill, the waitress told us that we couldn’t leave because we had not paid for our drinks at the bar, as though we were trying to flee the restaurant without paying! Very embarrassing but at least we finally had some attention. And we were expected to pay a service charge on the second bill. For what service?
I had a fantastic experience when I came to the York & Albany when it first opened and I cannot recognise any of the careful attention from that first meal in this restaurant today. I am furious and we have walked out of that place for the last time?
I live up the road so I guess you can call this place my local although I don't go that often. This time around the food, service and ambiance was good. It can be hit and miss since there is a large staff turnover and what should be a bustling busy place at the corner where Regents Park meets Camden is often quite quiet. It's a Gordon Ramsey pub, restaurant and boutique hotel. It's got all the right ingredients, comfort, charm and a good if not cheap menu. It just always seems to be less than the sum of it's parts which is a pity since it's a really nice place. Come on York & Albany, perk up!
The food was lovely however our waitress was so rude it was embarrassing. She kept walking off annoyed if we asked a question about the menu or were not ready to place our order. She just left the cutlery and wine glasses on the edge of the table, walked off halfway between taking our order - her pen had ran out but didn’t let us know! Really surprised from this restaurant didn’t want to leave a tip as she really made our evening unpleasant however were told we had to - so she got over £15 for goin out of her way to be rude!
Other staff members where helpful and really polite such a shame
we went for the set menu offer with opentable and it was very tasty and great value for money
Service was attentive and with a smile and the decor was lovely . We enjoyed a bit of class just outside the heart of Camden
We will be back!
Hats off to Gordon Ramsay! The food offered on the set menu of one of his numerous restaurants is a cut above the rest of the usual chef chain type. Superb belly of pork and fish mains, starters of rillette de saumon and rabbit terrine were fine, light and perferctly cooked, real pleasure to the palate. There were none of the usual set menu promotion shortcuts, portions were correct and same as those on the a la carte. And the rose was very good, superbly selected. A dry, almost white wine taste, but light pale pink colour, very pleasant to the eye, nose and palate. Really enjoyed it, and am going to test his next restaurant to see if the standard keeps.
Food, atmosphere and service were excellent 👍👍👍
Exceptional food, amazing value and great customer service. Once again a great restaurant from the renowned chef Gordon Ramsay.
It is a shame that the restaurant and its terrace is right on a large junction.
Although this is a Gordon Ramsay establishment, think gastro pub with relatively low quality meals and poor service. It may well be that it was because it was a hot summer evening and the restaurant was understaffed (early Brexit effect?) but that doesn't excuse some basic faults; could not order more bread as it was frozen and would take too long, asked for oil and vinegar with the bread we had and were brought Sarsons spirit vinegar (not balsamic, and an old bottle to boot), sirloin steak and lamp chops both with unacceptable quantities of fat and gristle... I could go on, you get the picture
It is a lovely setting staff was wonderful however my order was wrong and I almost ate the rest of my food before it was corrected
Great overall - good and attentive service and good food.
Amazing Sunday roast!! The belly pork was sensational!!!
Unfortunately the food has deteriorated here over the years. It’s such a shame as the staff and setting is delightful.
Main courses took nearly an hour and half to arrive. Also very little in terms of vegetarian food on menu. We went for a roast and no real veggie option. Overall was a spoilt day for what was meant to be a nice father's day lunch out
Very pleasant, good value lunch from the set menu. Relaxed informal atmosphere and attractive decor. The place was not busy on this weekday lunchtime but that suited us. Service was very attentive and friendly. Food was tasty, well presented, plenty of choice, even from the set menu. Looking forward to another visit!
Not value for money and food was tasteless. Place was run down. Is this really a Gordan Ramsey place?
Excellent roast dinner
Our visit couldn’t have been so different to our last visit 6 months or so ago. Really disappointed, especially for a special celebration. Choice of food (extremely restricted) was not explained. We were seated at a low table in the bar for a 3 plus course meal, restaurant empty all but one table at 9pm. Food ok but not anything like the quality and level we received last time. Felt like a hurried breakfast on tables set for a low key breakfast. We couldn’t have been more deflated and disappointed. Pleasant waiter. We had traveled from Nottingham to London to celebrate at what had been our favourite restaurant.
always a great place to go but the food was disappointing. We had to send our poached eggs which were not runny, quantities were light and the bread and pastries were simply not good. Staff was friendly but not that attentive. Overall we were disappointed with the experience, you always expect so much more from such an establishment. It has got everything to be a hit but lack of attention lets it down
I really liked the lamb, thought it was cooked very well. Service was a bit slow. Staff super helpful and nice
Will go back
Simple food. Nice atmosphere. Nothing special.
We picked this establishment over other Gordon Ramsay restaurants because it was advertised as family friend, and it did not disappoint. We arrived an hour outside (early) our reservation since we were exhausted from a full day at the zoo and had no problems getting seated in a quiet corner. The food was served quickly, absolutely delicious and presentation was on point. The staff were friendly, professional and attentive. Would recommend to anyone!
Lovely food, soup especially nice. Friendly service - warned us in advance there was a big party in so to get our order in quickly.
Lovely lunch experience. Great deal too!
We have eaten at York and Albany several times in the last few years with mixed results. Our last visit was one of the best so we were looking forward to having dinner with friends. The restaurant is nicely done out and the atmosphere was relaxing albeit not full on a Saturday night. Service and food was average - the prices are not - and at nearly £300 for 4 it did not represent good value for us.
Good staff balanced out average to poor food
Not worth the trip
Cocktails were poor value and most food didn’t taste cooked to order
I love the atmosphere in the York and Albany, and it is very close to where I live, so I should go there more often. I was reminded why last week after a birthday lunch with 2 friends: I don't go because it really is expensive. Lunch for 3: 2 small glasses of wine, one person had 2 starters and the other 2 had the set lunch: £80 with the tip. That really is pretty outrageous for a lunch. No bread (costs extra). No coffee. Paying that much makes the good service and nice atmosphere seem not really worth it. I won't be going back.
