Zama Punjabi Restaurant
Had an amazing birthday at Zama with my friends we had
- Zama Pepper Fry Prawns
- Zama Paneer Mirchi
-Vegan mini avocado & Mushroom Naan
-Truck Walas Lamb
- Ambararsari Fish Masala
Tasty, authentic not greasy!
The staff were so funny and cracking jokes with us throughout the night my mate booked the table online mentioning it was my birthday so Wondered how they knew when they bought and sang happy birthday to me with some chocolate cake!
Would recommend the environment is buzzing with chatter & music.
A hidden gem in hove for sure music !
Very enjoyable food Probably most authentic Indian restaurant in Brighton/Hove
Staff were helpful and attentive
On the negative side vegetarian menu is very limited
Service charge of 12.5% is on the high side
Tables do not have covers and it gives a hint of being a cafe
Had a lovely meal, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent and loved the small plates idea. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, booked for my birthday meal 🍴 can't wait to take my girls here 😊
3 dishes didn’t turn up, waitress was too busy being chatty rather than taking down the correct orders.
Told waitress 3 dishes were missing, when they eventually showed everyone else had finished their meal, we didn’t want the dishes then which meant 2 of the guests hadn’t eaten!
Restaurant was very noisy, couldn’t chat as we couldn’t hear each other.
Would not recommend and will give this restaurant a wide berth.
Great food, bit uncomfortable trying to rush you to vacate table , from start to finish took less than 1 hour
Really good, fresh tasting food. Fantastic starters, great mains and really good chocolate cake for dessert! We will definitely be back!
Expectations met, but not exceeded. Food wasn't amazing, but tasty nevertheless. Please provide real poppadoms, not mini ones out of a bag!
We have been trying to get a table at Zama on a Saturday night since it opened. Last weekend, we succeeded but it was a great disappointment. On arrival, I was unable to take a seat as the waitress was taking an order from the next table which highlighted one of the first issues. They have crammed the tables in with little space between them. Not only does this mean that the people on the next table are uncomfortably close but also on a night when the restaurant is busy, it is impossible to have a sensible conversation. If you had observed the restaurant, you would have seen that all the couple were leaning forward a long way because it was impossible to hear what your companion had to say at a normal distance. We waited a long time for drinks to arrive. My partner doesn't like to drink until she has had some substantial food but we had been there over an hour with only some poppadoms to eat when I complained to the waitress and explained that she should tell the manager that this was unacceptable and we were within seconds of walking out. To be fair, the manager came straight over and offered compensation in terms of free drinks and a reduction in the bill. Apparently, our order had gone astray in some way. The response was good but really getting into that situation was unacceptable. When the food came, it was good. To sum up, they have too many tables, it is far too noisy and the service was chronically slow and in our case failed totally. I wonder how long we would have had to wait if I hadn't complained. The food was good but I will take a lot of persuading to go back.
excellent experience - inspiring menu, amazing flavours, pleasant ambience - I would definitely return
Excellent food, friendly attentive service and great choice of original mocktails.
The accoustics of the building made it very noisy and we found it difficult to hear ourselves speak. Tables are very close together - it might be a good idea to take away one of the small tables for 2 to create more space & privacy between the tables. It did get chilly when the air conditioning was on.
Will definitely go back but maybe not on a busy Friday night!
1) The Avocado Shami kebab starter was disappointing, what little taste avocado has was lost in the cooking and the spices;
2) The Zama chicken curry, presumably a signature dish, was good;
3)The waitress was charming and helpful but she didn't remove the foil before using the corkscrew on the wine bottle and she didn't invite us to taste the wine;
4) The Garjar Hi Hawla was good.
The staff were very friendly and the decor is upmarket. The food is also a step up from the usual Indian fare - it's clear the chef cares that the food she serves is of very good quality. My only criticism is that the first 3 mocktails I ordered from the menu were not available. The manager came to speak to me, however, and explained that an expected delivery had not arrived, so they did not have the necessary ingredients. I put this down to growing pains, as they are a new business. And the drink I eventually chose was really good and a decent size (huge, actually). Tiny drinks (especially when they aren't alcoholic) are my pet peeve!
Food was ok but nothing out of the ordinary. Service was inconsistent but then it was the fisrt week it's been open - staff very friendly. When we arrived they tried to sit us by the toilets despite some empty tables - we did suggest it wasn't the best place for a table.
We tried Zama during their first week and will definitely be back. The food was very tasty, myself and my partner had thali and our friends had a chicken dish and a lamb dish. The food and drinks came in good time and all staff were friendly. The only faults were minor, food being served across people and being cleared before checking we were finished, a shame as I was enjoying picking at my thali. The decor is nice and although the restaurant was very busy it wasn’t too noisy to hold a conversation with our friends. Overall very impressed.
My wife and I had dinner on Wednesday night. The restaurant was full and there was a very upbeat atmosphere. We were greeted and shown to our table and served almost immediately. The food was excellent, my wife had a meat Thali and I had a Keema with nan. Really good ingredients in our meals and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and family. Well done,
We’ll be happy to come back soon.
The food was delivered promptly and hot - as the vegan in our group there were plenty of options and all of us agreed, the quality of the food was excellent. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, as we wished to move tables and our request was accommodated without any difficulties. As said, the service and staff were excellent and all of us will be returning in the near future ..... thank-you
Food was amazing, with the two for one offer I think it was definitely worth it! All the dishes tasted amazing and was authentic indian food. Lovely atmosphere and feels very much like fine dining. Would recommend for couples/family dinners and will definitely be back again soon. Only reason I didn’t give full stars is because takeaway is unavailable and the food could have been a bit more spicier. But overall was great!
It’s first week of opening so had 1/2 price offer for food. Starters were good. But my thali was sadly disappointing- bland (which is partly the punjabi style) but not much spicing. My wife’s chicken Kadai was better, but certainly not medium hot. Wine was OK. Might come back once to give it a second chance.
Food prices are extremely high for small portions and better value and quality can be found at many other Indian restaurants.
Beautiful restaurant with amazing decor, loved the food and amazing staff. We’ll be back again!
The food was delicious and even though you could tell it was still new to everyone, everything was just right. Can’t wait to go back 😊
