It was a wonderful experience! The food was delicious. They had also several of vegan and vegetarian options which was so good (htipiti, spanakopita) Staff were so friendly and professional (especially our server Sahra was so kind and sweet). She recommended really good wines. Everything were awesome. Definitely can’t wait to come back!
Wonderful selection of middle Eastern small plates (mezzes) picked by Jose Andres. I visited during Restaurant Week and got to try 5 courses for a reasonable price. Nice selection of middle eastern wines.
The chicken youvetsi was the star of the show!
Fun restaurant. When making reservation I asked not to be seated near the door and we were. Also, all the two top tables were wobbly.
Zaytinya was one of my favorite restaurants several years back, but inconsistent/disappoonting service and food has been the norm on recent trips. Service was really lacking, as empty dishes piled up on the table (as more came, no one cleared the empty ones), water was never refilled, and hummus and other dips were served while we waited over over 15 minutes for bread. A general casualness extended to the host stand, while employees seemed more occupied laughing with each other than to acknowledge the guests going and coming. Food is nothing special.
Great food -window table -quieter-wonderful vibe and lication
This is my third time at Zaytinya. Each time it has been excellent. Delicious cauliflower, hummus, smoked beets, falafel! Great wine choices. Will return the next time I’m in DC.
We started our meal with the $35 mix of hummas, tammasalata, yougart, tomatoes, baba gnoush. It was delicious and a better buy then purchasing all 5 individually. Next we had the chicken soup (my son's favorite), a cheese platter, the sausage, egg and cheese on flat bread and the skewered chicken. All, again, were delicious. My son finished the meal with the Turkish delight dessert and a blood orange tea. We were all very satisfied and pleased with our meal. Afterwards, we headed off to the Folger Theatre to see Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor.
I had ordered a table for 7.30 but we had to wait a further 15 minutes.
I had also requested a 'surprise' birthday candle for one of the party but this never happened.
Food was lovely, waiter attentive so many good points, but the front of house seemed a little frazzled!
Food was great. We went during restaurant week & each ordered a different item from each section so we actually tried 6 dishes. Creatively designed and delicious.
The place was very nice and the food amazing!
Zaytinya has become one of my favorite places to eat!! The food is fantastic and the service is always great! I gave 4 stars for food only because my chicken was slightly undercooked for my taste. Noting, they had no problem taking it back and bringing me what I wanted. If you like Mediterranean, or Greek food, it's A must try for all!!
So delicious! Great mezz food. Best shrimp i've ever tasted! *Small plates, filled me up though
Beautiful space, busy but well attended to, excellent small plates and well priced drinks, especially at happy hour.
We went for late lunch/early dinner after the basketball game. We enjoyed very much the menu of the Restaurants’ week: mezzes were very tasty and portions very generous, especially considering the special deal of 35$ for basically 4 courses +dessert. I tried the special Cocktail of the week and found it great! Service was very good too! I would
Certainly recommend the place, but be aware that a reservation is needed as the place is always full, and for the same reason it can get pretty loud. When the weather is nice, You can enjoy sitting on the terrace.
Food service was exceptionally slow between courses
Great food, service and ambiance. Everything we ordered was top quality and we loved it.
Ok, so my bad we didn’t realize Zatinya was doing Restaurant Week. Thus, we will forgive the 20 minute wait for our table (even though we had a reservation) and getting 2 courses of food before our drinks made it to the table (appropriately comped b/c of delay - thank you). So here’s why I am going to hell. Chef Andrés is clearly a great human being - he makes a difference in the world and I have much respect for that. However, I don’t get the hype about the food, whether here, Jaleo, Minibar, etc. It’s all mediocre ... at best. We are in Greece at least a couple times/year. Of the supposedly Greek dishes on the Zatinya menu, the only one even close to something you would actually have there were the Greek fries, which were well-seasoned with oregano and salt. The oregano and salt seasoning would be well used on other dishes, including the lamb chops and calamari. The tzatziki is not anything like what we’ve had 100+ times in Greece—cut WAY back on the dill, please. Beautiful space but can’t see coming back again until, like this time, it’s been several years and we give it another shot.
We came to Zaytinya for dinner to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday, it was seven of us and we weren’t the easiest table, there was a misunderstanding with our food on our behalf but the waitress was so lovely and dealt with it perfectly. It was restaurant week and very busy but the service was still outstanding and the food was amazing. Also, we were seated in a great spot, beautiful big table in the corner so it was spacious and not noisy at all, it seems like the staff really thought about it beforehand to create the best environment for a celebration.
Such a great place for innovative Mediterranean tapas! Close to museums. Fun for family or just with friends.
Excellent food, but the restaurant was quite crowded on a Sunday afternoon. Waited for some parts of the meal for nearly 15 minutes. Overall, an excellent experience.
Excellent food and service, as always.
Zaytinya is always exceptional! The restaurant week lunch was especially delicious and quite the bargain.
Went out to Zaytinya with friends to enjoy RESTAURANT WEEK WINTER and couldn’t even happier in my decision to sway the group to this awesome venue!
The 5 course tapa dinner meal was perfect in quantity and very high in quality. Each dish had its own unique taste with herbs and spices, and the variety to pick from satisfied all diets.
Highly recommend the hommus, lamb kebab, and chicken youvestí. These dishes are also on regular menu.
FYI had the house merlot and Pinot Grigio(not named this exactly) and cannot go wrong for price and taste.
Great meal! Just a little loud
Forgot to celebrate birthday, which I specifically indicated twice.
Went for restaurant week -
Service is good. Meals are tasty.
The only negative thing I would like to mention is the reception. They made us wait 20 minutes to be seated although we arrived on time and checked in.
This is the best food ever! It is perfectly exquisite. Every dish offers interesting, nuanced spices.
Since the food is so good, we chose to overlook that fact that our seating for our reservation which was made in early January was handled horribly. Our name was called and our table was ready. However, the person seating us took the wrong people to the table which was a window table. They instantly sat down and no one took the initiative to tell them it was our table. We took the next table that came up a few minutes later and sat upstairs. It took some time to get over the rudeness of that situation. No one apologized or mentioned it. We were just herded along.
Thank goodness for the food!
Excellent food - especially the lavneh, Brussels sprouts, eggplant....
service and personnel were so welcoming and kind.
Sat upstairs and enjoyed being somewhat removed from the fast pace of the main floor. Great price for restaurant week ! Wonderful salmon, beet salad , Brussels sprouts , meatballs and olive cake with cocoa ice cream. Servings were generous, service on the other hand was a touch slow between a couple courses . A number of plates came out before our appetizer. Some what frustrating. Love José Andre so will more than likely go back!
I always recommend Zaytinya. I was disappointed, however, when I brought a friend for a birthday dinner on Jan. 17. When I arrived, I confirmed with the front desk that they would put a candle on the dessert, and then they didn't. When I asked the waitress about the mistake, she kind of shrugged, like: Too late. It was a disappointing end to a special occasion. Otherwise, Zaytinya is reliably a great dining experience - excellent food and attentive service.
Awesome food and service. A little noisy.
Outstanding food experience. Noisy.
Usually restaurant weeks present not a very exciting menu. Not here! You can’t go wrong- but our server made it easy and picked the choices for us. I can’t remember a better overall experience at a restaurant, and this makes it 2 In a row! Always a stop when I’m in Washington!
Great experience. Food was very good. Service was excellent. Noise level was much higher than desired.
Excellent value and food!
Four of us tried almost everything on the menu week lunch menu, and it was all delicious. Like other Jose Andres restaurants, Zaytinya is consistently excellent.
