Great food, good service. I appreciate I am slightly biased as I have been using the Raj for nearly 20 years. Thanks for an excellent night out😀😀😀
As regular users we find good welcome, fine food and brilliant hospitality. Thanks
Thank you for catering with cheer and good humour to a group of 11 children and teenagers. The food was really good as usual and there was plenty of room for everyone. The only thing was that service was quite slow - we only ordered main courses and sides, but having arrived at 6:30pm, by 8:05pm we decided that we weren't going to have time to order dessert as well, and bought ice-creams from Tesco on the way back home instead.
We arrived to find out they didn't know we had a table reservation. They said they don't take online bookings! However, they did fit us in, but the process was confusing and we felt uncomfortable. We have been before and always enjoyed the experience, hence the higher rating than this visit deserved. Don't book this restaurant via Opentable.
First of all, the web site allows you to make a reservation for 530pm but when we got there the lights were off and door locked. Had to sit in the car for 1/2 hour and log back on to make a 6pm reservation. The staff are extremely rude! When we walked in the guy said SIT! We almost walked out right there. We were approached immediately by another waiter who didn't say hello .... smile or anything . In all we had 3 different servers. When we ordered we had to say what we wanted at least 2 times ... with the drinks and the food. They don't seem to understand very well. We were never asked if we wanted another drink and they tried to take the food off the table before we were even done. It was very uncomfortable being felt to be rushed out. The food was good but we will never go back again ... and we live less than 5 miles from it. Don't go to this restaurant unless you don't mind being treated like you're putting them out by eating there. They do takeaway thou, so since the food is pretty good that would be the only option to go back for us, if absolutely necessary. Busby stoop Indian is wayyyyy better.
Unfortunately, despite excellent food, the service in this restaurant was unbelievably poor. Staff totally disinterested in customers and so slow to serve food. Despite this we may try takeaway in future but if as slow will abandon totally! Note to management - Shake up your unpleasant and inefficient staff!
Excellent food in quiet and comfortable surroundings. Good value for money and a warm welcome.
The food at the Raj was outstanding and the portion size is very good. However the only let down was the service, the waiters are quite rude and they seem to rush you when you are choosing the food. They are also very keen to bring the bill and get you out of the door once you have finished eating. One waiter in particular then spent more time trying to get the female members of our party to write a review on trip advisor for them.
Food was okay but i am lacto and gluten free and there was no allowances for me. Places i have been to before make them with coconut milk for me. I choose tika which was ok but dry.
Restaurant appearance was pretty but be prepeared to wait as we there an hour and half before we ordered our mains.
Food was good lots on the menu to choose from, customer service is poor verging on rude side..
My wife and I have been to this place a few times and we are always pleased, the food is served quickly and is always very tasty. The restaurant itself is well set out and spacious, it is presented well with fish tanks around, which are nice to look at. The service is great. We will return.
Wouldn't recommend at all. Butter chicken tasted as if it had semolina in it, awful. Small portions. (Probably just as well as food awful!) raita & butter chicken disgustedly sweet. Even the naan tasted as if it had sugar in it! Poppadoms ok at the top but tasted old underneath. Best thing was the Cobra beer!
We went for a special banquet menu which was good value however did feel a little rushed e.g. a course arrived before we had finished the first one. The food was very tasty with adequate portions and the staff were willing to adjust seasoning in any individual dish. As a 5th course either coffee or a dessert was offered, I think they should stick to coffee. The dessert offered was a slice of vienetta icecream with very poor 'squirty cream' on top!
When paying the bill a tip was assumed as no change came back to the table. (Not good!)
Nice relaxed ambience. All 5 in the group really enjoyed their choice of meals. Food served hot & all authentic & very tasty. Service good, not having to sit waiting for too long. Staff all friendly & polite. Large choice of foods to suit everyone's tastes. Will definitely go again
Outstanding food and wonderful staff. Definitely 5* .
We went on New Year's Eve and had a great meal. It was quick tasty and the staff were very professional. Happy new year and will be back next year
Lovely food & a friendly comfortable place to eat. Will definitely be going again.
we are regulars at the Raj and always enjoy our visit with the food always at a high standard of quality and a wide ranging menu to select from. It does exactly what it says on the tin!
My husband and I attended this curry house on Saturday the 3rd and straight away were made to feel unwanted. We were ordered to sit down to wait for our table that I'd reserved. When we were taken to our table out menus were practically thrown at us, the waiters kept hitting the back of my chair as they walked past, our menu choices were questions when we decided to share a naan and rice and he then snatched the menu out of my hands. Safe to say I definitely won't be coming again. They were definitely more bothered with the large table of drunk race goers than their other guests.
Lovely meal, very accommodating. Lovely with my children. Food delicious.
Nice restaurant with friendly staff. The food was excellent. Totally recommend and will be going back. Thank you.
Very busy Restaurant in Thirsk. Popular takeaway which meant service a tad slow. Food was very good and great value. Nice little extra at the end of the meal is a "on the house" Spirit or Liquor.
table service came to us from two different servers; one was very pleasant whilst the other appeared to have dropped out of Charm school early... other than that, would certainly return
My family and I wanted to go for a meal out, and fancied trying somewhere we hadn't been for a while.
As we all wanted an Indian meal, we decided on the Raj of India. I booked the table online (a great idea as I HATE having to use the phone, unless I really have to) and we arrived at our booked time. The restaurant was in chaos! The queue for takeaways was out of the door and the guy serving in the restaurant seemed completely disinterested. We were seated then ignored for a good half hour. When our order was finally taken, the drinks arrived quickly, then quickly followed by another person who couldn't understand the concept that we had already ordered our food.
We will not be going back.
I booked a table for 11 of us for a (belated) Christmas night out.
The staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was delicious.
I have been to the Raj before, and I will definitely be back again.
Went there for a Valentine dinner with Wife, The food at the Raj is always excellent, although this time the pudding was a bit unusual. we visit regularly and enjoy the atmosphere
The service and friendlyness of the staff is great and the menu very extensive
This is a great place to eat, Fantastic food, friendly staff and best of a free drink at the end of your meal! We made a over a 50 mile round trip to eat at this restaurant.
Food, service and atmosphere as always exemplary, we have been using the Raj for 22 years and this will not end. Thank you.
The food here was really tasty and the dishes were alot different from your average Indian restaurant. It has a very extensive menu at a very competitive price. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and would not hesitate to return to the Raj again next time we are in Thirsk.
Every year we hold a small reunion dinner for our NEOC year and this year we chose the Raj in Thirsk. It was the first time any of us had been there and we were not disappointed. We were well greeted when we arrived and the food was hot, tasty and well served.
A very good meal and good value for money. I will be returning to have another meal ther in the future.
Went on a Saturday night at 8pm - Cannot fault food at the Raj but staff seemed to be overwhelmed serving tables and takeaway orders. Sat at table with 2 plates, knives, forks and spoons for 5 and helped ourselves to cutlery, serviettes, etc.
Had to ask to order food and waited over an hour from sitting down to getting starters - but the food was excellent.
£100 for 5, including starters, mains, rice, naan, 5 pints, cokes and spirit. Great value!
Will definitely return but maybe mid week when it will be quieter.
As always, a real pleasure with attentive staff and prompt service. Food was delicious and looked appetising. Excellent value for money with a superb selection of dishes. I had travelled 45 miles to dine here, have previously, and will do so again.
After a long day's fishing and a few too many beers in Thirsk it was great to sit down to a very curry. The menu is comprehensive, the staff very friendly and the food was very good.
Decent food, though no kids menu.
The food was great, the staff are polite and very helpful. Would definately recommend
Good value, nice food, all a bit slow but it was very busy.
