Revisited after having moved away from London almost 20 years ago and glad to say the food was as good as I remember it when we used to go regularly. It was a bit quiet, I assume from people being cautious about COVID, but deserves to be busy every night! I wish it was nearer so I could visit regularly but will have to content myself by visiting when I can.
Wonderful meal in one of my favourite restaurants. Only criticism is that the food came out a bit too quickly, without gaps between courses.
Great staff, good service, delicious fresh Gujarati food. As always.
Only downside was lack of social distancing. Tables were close together and quite packed in.
Absolutely excellent food. All of the dishes were exceptional. It is the only vegetarian restaurant that I have ever visited that hasn’t made me wonder where the meat is / why I was there.
great buffet. very authentic vegetarian gujurati food. 90% of food is vegan. good value and good service. would recommend.
The ambiance was good but the service was not great from the lady on the door.
When I told her we were on a 2 for 1 Meerkat Meals deal she said we could not have the buffet but would have to order a la carte.
Fair enough, but it was the unfriendly way she said it that I didn't like.
We ordered two starters and two main courses.
The starters , bhel puri and onion bhajis were good, as was the mango lassi drink, but when our main courses arrived they were not hot at all, so we had to send them back, together with the nan bread and rice.
There was little or no apology from the waitress, who was the same lady referred to above.
When she brought our replacement meal we immediately noticed that one of the dishes appeared to have shrunk in size and we were not given anything like as much as before.
We pointed this out and she went off and later brought us another full portion.
When we finished and asked for the bill I noticed that they had added service charge in excess of 10% and as this was voluntary I asked that it be taken off the bill and I left a more suitable tip, reflecting our experience.
Also they said that the 2 for 1 deal did not extend to the nan or rice, which were charged in full. I did query this but they refused to budge.
I understand that this restaurant is under new management and the layout has certainly changed from my previous visits some years ago. I don't know whether I will be rushing to return
Had the buffet on a Saturday night at 7pm. Booked only an hour earlier which was lucky as quite full but not noisy. The selection was good, only one hot item ran out while we were there. Food was great. The labelling for specific ingredients is very useful.
Very nice food
A lot of choice
Staff very polite and efficient
A family and friends luncheon, buffet for 23. Excellent food, all correct temperature and well placed... Service of drinks was good. Would have been nice if the chairs were all covered and comfy and the same. We had the restaurant to ourselves. Price worked out ok too. I would recommend this stunning vegetarian restaurant to anyone. Thanks, Simon.
Delicious Gujarati food, especially the shrikhand 😋
Eating at the Rani was the worst restaurant experience we have ever had. The waitress who "welcomed" us didn't record that we were honouring an Open Table reservation and as a result we received an email suggesting that we had failed to turn up. Then the same waitress had difficulty taking our orders and we had to point to the dishes we wanted on the menu. Despite this only one of the starters was served. When asked about the missing starter, the waitress blamed me for not having made the order. This was untrue. The second starter was served quite a while later. Then she served the wrong main course to me, again she blamed me for the error despite the fact that I physically pointed out the item I wanted on the menu. She was extremely surly. In addition one starter was too sweet and one was burned. We couldn't finish the either main course because both were pooly cooked. We have had these dishes many times in other restaurants and these were the worst examples of their type we have ever had served to us.
We went to the buffet on a very busy Sunday lunch time but the crowds just gave the experience added atmosphere. The staff ensure that the buffet is easy to access, topped up and clean thereby always looking inviting. The nature of the customers at Rani seems always to be very polite and friendly so the ambience is good. The food is very tempting and you can eat as much as you like of whatever you like.
The buffet was really sparse so we decided to order from the menu. Food was ok, passable, but nothing we would say was delicious or even good. This is so bad for going out on a Saturday night and a great disappointment as we had guests Service was not more than, or even, adequate
Amazing service and food. They tailored the food to our needs.. :)
Good food and buffet offered an enormous selection, but waiting staff were unfriendly and very keen to rush us through our meal
I have been lots of times over many years under its current and previous ownership. Always delicious good value food. I have been with friends and with family and everyone enjoys eating there.
We booked our table at 8.15 on a Saturday evening and when the waitress came to us after about 15 mins, we chose the buffet option. The food was good, although a couple of containers were empty and we had to ask for them to be refilled, which they did with a small amount. We took our starter. From then, between every course, we had the waiters/waitresses come to us many times asking us if we wanted any more, could we take it as they wanted to clear away. When we got to the dessert, there was a tiny amount of fruit salad left, which was only enough for one person so again asked for more to be put out. It took a while and a real sense of reluctance to get more and again they asked for us to take it quickly as they were clearing away (it was only 10.00pm at that point) We have never felt so rushed at a restaurant before and for staff to be so keen to get rid of us! We finally left at 10.25 (we were the last so I only can suppose everyone was hurried to finish) and looked to see when the closing time was ...11.00pm.
The food was fine but this is not a place to meet up with friends for a relaxed Saturday evening out!
Excellent Indian vegetarian restaurant. Almost like home cooked food.
Wonderful service with a smile.
I had a thali which arrived quickly, but I was disappointed with the daal which was very thin and the expected chole turned out to be black eyed peas. I ordered the nutty monthal for dessert which was too big a portion and too hot for what it was intended to deliver, a rich and sweet mitai to round off a savoury meal. The staff didn't know the menu and didn't engage with us. All in all, not the Gujarati experience of my youth.
Fantastic food, a bit noisy as we had gone during half term and there were quite a few children running around.
But food was delicious!
Really tasty food and great service! The best Indian vegetarian restaurant in the uk!
Disappointing. Hot food on the buffet dried out and unappetising and not replenished until it had all gone. Would not visit again.
Great food - unfortunately very busy so noise level quite intrusive
Great buffet - so many delicious options to try at a great price.
Sweet potato wonderful....great flavours....recommend a trip.
Not at all as expected. Food was stale and not as advertised. They only made food for 6 of us which doesn’t seem fresh at all. Won’t recommend it.,
We were encouraged to have the buffet but this was a mistake.
We ordered better food from the main menu.
Not great value from the buffet as the choice was limited too.
The food was not very special. I have to say that I've tasted better Indian food and I won't be eating at Rani again.
Visited the restaurant with overseas visitors. The staff was friendly and helpful through the whole time, kindly explained all the meals in the buffet selection. Clean and relaxed environment, budget friendly, tasty food selection in the buffet and on the menu too. Definitely recommend it!
Excellent restaurant serving fantastic ethnic food in a relaxed setting. Ideal for special occasions and family get togethers. Great vegetarian/vegan food but liked by non-vegetarians also and very affordable particularly the excellent buffet in Sunday’s.
Great food at the buffet, good variety, the best veggie Indian restaurant in London. The restaurant was busy as it was a Friday night, buffet was kept topped up with fresh food. Little louder than we're used to as there were a couple of parties in. Best bhel and coriander chutney around. Good service.
We have been visiting Rani for special occasions for many years and will continue to do so.
First time. Very happy with everything. Will be going again. Great choice! Thank you.
as usual we enjoyed a good and good value Indian dinner
We went to Rani to celebrate our wedding Anniversary and we love the ambiance and food.
The staff was attentive , efficient and helpful.
As always a lovely place to get great Indian vegetarian food.
The food at Rani is lovely Indian food. The staff are friendly and welcoming. They're helpful about special needs, and the food is labelled so it's easy to choose dishes that avoid gluten or animal-derived products. The whole place is strictly meat-free. They are one of our favourite local restaurants.
Excellent buffet that is kept topped up! Lots of choice and friendly staff.
We discovered this restaurant years ago whilst still living in London; we'd visit about once every six weeks. Nowadays we are living at least an hour's drive away but still return from time to time because, basically, this is the best vegetarian Indian restaurant outside Asia! The Sunday buffet in particular is amazing value at £12.50. A large variety of starters are offered and the main courses tasty and imaginative, particularly the potato and aubergine dish. My husband loves the banana methi. The service is spot on, attentive but unobtrusive. I just cannot praise this place highly enough.
Great value buffet wuth a wonderful selection of starters and mains. Simple dessert of shrikhand and fruit salad finished the meal beautifully. Mango lassi was good too.
