Rats Restaurant - Grounds for Sculpture
A wonderful meal, picture perfect weather and a table with a view. A great afternoon.
The atmosphere was the best part. The food was mediocre and the service was pleasant but slow.
A delight as always! The homemade Soups du Jour are always the best.
We found Rats to be a soso experience. The food was passable, but not extraordinary. We requested a table with a view. It was not crowded, yet we were seated looking out to an unused outdoor dining space surrounded by plastic. My beet salad was a huge dish of beets with very little salad or flavor. Our scallops were dry, with no panache to the overly roasted cauliflower. All very meh.
As always, eating at Rats was a wonderful experience. Prices seem to have gone up a bit since we were there earlier in the year. We were disappointed to hear that they are not planning on being open for New Year’s Eve, which has been our tradition for the last dozen years!
Hi Hillary, We just wanted to respond to your comment about New Years Eve. We will be open for that special day. I apologize for the wrong information you received. We look forward to seeing you. Thanks for your review!!
Ambience lovely. Food very good. Pricey, but a very pleasant dining experience.
When patrons travel far and come a little early. I was appalled that I was sent away and told to come closer to my time. I also feel that some tables should be allowed for walk ins. That would be good business sense.
The menu should have had been more diversified. I had deviled eggs, the menu choices were not to my liking.
Food was good but not great. Seafood salad dressing was close to flavorless
Dismayed at parking, need valet service. especially for disabled...quickly seated, long wait for service. - 1 hr 40 min to be served. Waitress disappeared during wait. Had to ask where order was. Told we were 3rd in line after almost 2 hrs. Food was average, overall NOT up to reputation. Grounds were remarkable, did not offset total let down. Very disappointing.
Food was delicious as was the service and the ambience. Loved it!
Lovely date place for brunch and a stroll through the gardens . Loved the sangria !
Awesome experience and gardens. Great special occasion restaurant. Though know for high $$$ we actually found Rats quite reasonable! Not much more than local Princeton restaurants.
I have been to Rat's MANY times. It is set in such a unique and beautiful place, I do not think there is another restaurant in N.J. like it. The ambiance is unparalleled. The food is exceptional. And service was great. My only complaint is the 5 course wine / food tasting item is no longer on the menu. Regardless, the food we had was exceptional.
Our Server, Joe, was absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable about all of the farms providing the various food, and he was incredibly attentive. It was my mother's 80th birthday as well, and they made sure to include a candle in her dessert! The cocktails were quite interesting combinations, the wine list was wonderful as well. The interior is a bit dark but we were seated near the floor to ceiling windows facing the outdoor patio. The Ground for Sculpture is just so much fun to walk around with the outdoor installations, and Rats capped off a great day.
Beautiful surrounding. Excellent service. Amazing food. Friend had the French fries and said it was top 3 ever had in his life.
We had an amazing time at the Rat’s restaurant
My server was very attentive and the food was quite good It was also relaxing to be outside on the patio overlooking the the beautiful sculpture garden and pond My only suggestion is more vegetarian options and herbed olive oil as a choice with the bread
Met friends at Grounds for Sculpture, had made a 3:30 lunch reservation! Sat on the patio and were rewarded with a spectacular view! Our waiter Jay, made the experience that much better! He was friendly, professional, and added to the pleasant experience! I would highly recommend Rat’s! The weather turned out to be perfect! We enjoyed the docent tour, and then meandered on our own. A great way to spend an afternoon!
Great place... the best thing is the ambiance. bread, wine, shrimp cocktail - excellent. We ordered Steak Frites, but was dry and flavorless....
Enjoyed Rats. Food was excellent and also service. Will return.
We went for our Wedding Anniversary and we enjoyed every moment of it.!!!
We had a reservation but arrived early and were promptly seated. The service was excellent and the food superb.
Was so disappointed. Everyone raves about this place and it wasn’t good. We waited 15 min to be greeted by a server. Another 15 for our drinks to arrive. People asked to clear my plate like 3 minutes after I started eating with fork in hand. Limited menu for a 4:45 reservation. They only offered brunch that late.
Excellent food and service! Recommend this highly!
Food was not good at all
Excellent food and service. Beautiful and interesting concept, a garden, restaurant and sculpture garden. All in one stop. Relaxing and fine dining all in one location.
Great dining experience from the atmosphere to the service to the food. We went on a Sunday for the brunch. A bit pricey but will probably return for dinner.
I always enjoy my meal here and the service is always great!
We spent our wedding anniversary at Rat’s
It was our first time there,
so we were excited to see what all the hype was about.
We ordered the cheese board & soups to come out as apps then for entrees to come after..
The waiter had told us the kitchen was moving slow so it would be spaced out...an hour later our waiter was MIA
The table next to us was seated an hour after we ordered and got their dinner, another table in our section got dessert and the check (who sat down the same time as us) before we got our food.
at this point, we were full from the soup & had an hour drive home & it was getting late.
We asked the waiter to wrap our food and get the check,
it was taking too long.
The food then comes out 5 mins later, we took a bite or 2 then wrapped it.
He then brings dessert menus after we made it clear we were stuffed and tired with a long drive home.
All said and done they took 20% off the check &
gave us cookies.
Overall experience wasn’t bad just a bad waiter
Who wasn’t aware of timing or detail.
I wouldn’t hold it against them & try it again.
The food was good &
the place was very unique & an overall beautiful place to experience.
Loved the place and loved the food! The hosts seem a bit harried and rarely look away from their screens to make eye contact which is why I took off a star. That's your first impression. They made it seem as if the place was crazy busy and they couldn't keep up, yet there were tons of open tables and lots of hosts. Overall an amazing place with delicious food.
The hostess staff were great. They moved up my reservation when I inquired and sat at us at a nice table outside near the water. Service was poor. Was never asked if I wanted another drink and the waiter disappeared for 15 minutes at a clip. Food was good but a little overpriced. Problem with the outside table was there were always someone standing right next to the table to take photos, talk, look at the ducks and fish, etc. Maybe being next to the water was not so good after all. Overall good but I expected more.
Lovely fall afternoon, we had lunch outside by the water. We had the seafood salad, ravioli and a side of brussels sprouts (last two items recommended by hostess). Our server was Rob. Everything was delicious and sitting by the water was relaxing. Highly recommend having reservations on a weekend.
Birthday dinner for our birthday club. Perfect day and great restaurant.
Very expensive for what you got. The pork cutlet seemed like a tough frozen patty. We complained and they did take it off the bill. The scallops were good. The trout was bland . I was there before and it was good. Brought 4 friends this time and was very disappointed.
Quite disappointed in the menu, and the quality of the food was only average. I have dined here before, and always loved it..I brought out of town guests and I was embarrassed. Very little flavor and variety...I would try it again, but never on a Sunday...very poor menu selection.
This place is so overrated, I just don't get it. We arrive without a reservation, hostess takes a looks and says "no tables available" for us. I walk outside, pull out my phone to see what other restaurants in the area we could possibly choose, Rats pops up with availability in 10 minutes. I walk back in, get a strange look and I say "I have a reservation now." She asks my name and says "let me show you to your table." I could hear people at other tables complaining about the lack of service and the long wait, this didn't look good. Waiter came right over and brought us water. I thought great we have a good waiter. Spoke too soon, service was horrible, long wait to even place an order. Once ordered the food didn't take too long but it just wasn't great. If you like Outback you'll like this place, if you're used to paying Rats prices at decent places you'll be very disappointed. The ONLY thing Rats has going for it is the location but there are much better places within a 10 minute drive that will blow this place away.
Excellent food and environment! I will definitely be back during the fall. Highly recommended.
The restaurant is beautiful And worth looking at. Two of us had the pork schnitzel and it was very dry and tasted like frozen food. It was overpriced as well. The trout was OK. I purchased a side order of asparagus for eight dollars and received six asparagus spears. The French dip sandwich was OK.
