We regularly travel quite a distance to eat here and have never had anything but superb food. Our grown up sons said this was the best meal they had ever eaten

From the moment we walked in we felt it was going to be a good experience. The waiting staff were attentive, but not overly so. They were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The food was delightful; the tastes, textures, appearance, quantity were all spot on.

It has always been a treat to have lunch at The Red Lion, but I notice corners are being cut - butter is not in little pots any more with the red lion logo on top. My artichoke soup was delicious and could not be faulted - imaginative with olives and parmesan cheese; the chicken liver parfait was pleasant but a bit cloying and came with a large slab of toasted brioche - just the one and two thinner piece would have been more delicate, plus there was a lack of sweet jelly or even a spring of watercress. They are good, but if they believe in themselves much more, they will become unbearable. I will go bak but I hope to see an improvement in attitude.

Went for lunch and very happy with the fixed price menu - lovely chicory, pear, Stilton and walnut salad followed by confit duck leg and then enough room for apple crumble. Will definitely visit again.

Our midweek was lunch was excellent and the service was charming and good. We all thought that there could have been a few more interesting takes on 'pub food', since the chef is clearly talented and it is a pub after all.

Truly outstanding Michelin starred restaurant/pub. The beautifully restored thatched Wiltshire pub makes for a wonderfully intimate setting. The Red Lion is my partner and my favourite restaurant, the food is just exceptional.

This is the third time we have eaten here to celebrate a special occasion. The food is superb and the service is fantastic with friendly, knowledgable and attentive staff (but not over-attentive, which I hate). The Maitre D recommended an excellent wine which complemented the food. The ambience is very pleasant. The a la Carte menu prices, however, are on a par with London which is why we only eat here on special occasions. On the other hand, there is a very reasonably priced set menu but with only two choices for each course. All-in-all though, we had a great evening.

I have been here 4 times over the last 9 months and the food is great which is the only reason I return mainly because it is let down by under attentive staff who deliver the wrong wine and food on two occasions. My last visit to date I again was delivered a Chilean Pinot Noir when I had ordered a NZ Pinot Noir and I had to ask twice for water on the table. One waiter couldn't even remember the desert he put in front of me. Maybe the chefs need to train the waiting staff to bring it up to standard.

We had last dined at the red lion about 2 years ago and it was excellent. This time we were disappointed. The manager was inept, service rather inattentive and the low point was an execrable spring roll with a fusion style duck breast. Not good enough at £25! The bar is high at this price level and the red lion is not reaching it.

Food was great as usual. Service was not up to the usual standard.
Had to ask for steak knives and water bowl for the dog three times!
My husbands favourite wine was not available either.
Little disappointed.

The menu was limited but still with plenty of choice. The food was the best I have had at the Red Lion. However, the service left a lot to be desired: the waiter laying cutlery could not remember who was having what, the wait between dishes was inordinately long, and a request for water had to be repeated twice. I would hate to be in a hurry as the whole meal experience lasted about two and a half hours.

This was a very disappointing experience. The wine and service charges were very high. My companion had a worm in her cod which was not even cooked properly. There were flies flying around and the ladies toilets stank. I expected more from somewhere which has a Michelin star and rates a 5 for cooking from the GFG. Perhaps the usual chef / management team were off.

Once again, we enjoyed another splendid lunch with friends to celebrate a special birthday. Well worth the drive, but do book! (The last time we were here was with a larger group of friends, so we were in their upstairs room which seats 16-20 diners, with its own toilets & serving kitchen)

We had a very enjoyable lunch last Saturday. Stunning food with professional but friendly and relaxed service. The wine list was interesting but excellent value too. The nice thing about the Red Lion is that, despite it's star, it still had the atmosphere of a real pub that just happens to serve amazing food.
Congratulations to you and your team! We will be back very soon.
Best, Howard & Rosie

Our second visit, both times to meet up with friends over the Christmas season - we had such a lovely meal last year, we re-booked for this year. We again had a really excellent meal, the staff could not have been more accommodating with our various requests (change of numbers, dogs etc) and the standard of the food was excellent - the owner thoroughly deserves the success the place has had and our only regret is that it is a little far for us to become regulars. We found it particularly good as families with adult children as the grown-up children liked the informality but were able to appreciate the standard of the cooking. We plan to return, hopefully before too long.

We live in London and stop-off at the Red Lion every time that we drive to the South West down the A303 ... the food is beautifully prepared and presented and is absolutely delicious ... the setting is quiet and lovely and the interior of the Red Lion is welcoming and exhibits the very best of a country pub ... friendly owner and staff complete the picture ... the detour off the main road was, as always, well worth the effort and we'll be back again soon ... thank you ... Overall very good. However several small details with the mise en place (but this is just me looking for mistakes :) )
1. We ordered desert from the start, before we got to the table. However the desert cutlery arrived just before the desert (I think it should have been there before we were sited )
2. Bred was placed on the right side (I think it should be on the right)

Food:
Excellent!
Portions larger than the expected (only had 1/3 of my desert ) and I must say it was one of the best I ever had.

Drink :
Very good wine!

Value:
Very good !!

Food was exceptional in terms of quantity of ingredients and the actual menu. Nice setting. Only thing I would point out is that it is fairly pricey but that was expected.
