Excellent waiter. Excellent food. Excellent drink. 🙂
Excellent place. The ambiance was especially nice for a summer day and the menu had some more unique offerings so it was quite small, though, I think it would be nice to offer a few more lunch items on the menu. The maple cake was AWESOME!! Would've preferred a regular white fish in the fish tacos but they were good. We all enjoyed our meal. I would recommend that you mention when people make a reservation that outdoor dining in the summer is on a first come-first basis. We made a reservation and specifically asked for outdoor dining at 1:00 pm but were told by the hostess when we arrived that those requests are on a first come basis and there were no tables available for that. It would have been nice to know ahead of time because we were all looking forward to eating outside. FYI--At Simon Pearce, if you request the porch when you make a reservation, they tell you that they cannot guarantee the porch but they will try to accommodate your request.
Restaurant was very busy, the host was helping out in all areas. Anna, our waitress, was extremely attentive, regardless of the number of tables she was serving! Thank you, Anna
Fantastic location, great food and service.
Thank you for joining us on Monday and sharing your kind review! I’m delighted that you enjoyed the whole experience, including the dining room ambience and a warm welcome from our team, as there is so much more to the total dining experience than just good food! We look forward to welcoming you again and I encourage you to consider one of our Thursday or Sunday night Red Barn Dinners at Kelly Way Gardens! Warmly, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
It was just a lovely, lovely lunch. Nice service, lots of attention and delicious food
Thank you for joining us at lunch last weekend and commenting on both he quality of the food and the warmth of the service! We’ll be sure to post your review for the team in The Red Rooster to see and they’ll be delighted to be recognized! We hope to see you again soon, and I suggest you also consider joining us for dinner either in The Red Rooster or Richardson's Tavern! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We enjoyed our visit to The Woodstock Inn and the Red Rooster. WE hope they will expand their outdoor seating as it was a brilliant, perfect Vermont June day, mid 70's with only three outside tables open. We saw at least four or five tables more on the patio sitting empty. This was puzzling. The food was VERY good; the desert was delicious, and staff were warm and friendly, but the service was slow as , we suspect, understaffed coming out of the Pandemic. That said, we'd not hesitate recommending it but check on outside seating if you're hoping for the great outdoors!
Woodstock Inn and Red Rooster were recommended by a friend so we expected have a good culinary experience. We shared the cheese platter as an appetizer and the cheeses were good. Presentation was bland. We had two fish dishes, the Salmon dish was prepared nicely and the fish was at the proper cooking temperature. The other fish dish, the Halibut special, was overcooked and was dry. The waiter asked how we liked our dishes and we told him. He offered to have the dish replaced, but we declined and he deducted the cost of the appetizer as compensation. We appreciated that he did this.
The food was delicious and the service professional and impeccable
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your dinner on Tuesday. I am especially happy to see our service team made you feel welcome and cared for, and our culinary team provided a pleasing selection of cuisine for the varied tastes in your group. We hope you will return during the summer months to enjoy the bounty of our organic gardens at Billings Farm & Museum and Kelly Way Gardens! Warm regards, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Fantastic service! Everyone working here is really hustling.
Thank you for dining with us in The Red Rooster on Monday evening and sharing your impressions. You are absolutely correct that our group is hustling and working together as a team to make good things happen for other people, and seeing the effect it has on guests like you is what makes it all worthwhile! Please do visit us again soon to enjoy more of our wonderful local cuisine! All the best, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Our server, Luke, was excellent. Attentive and serious about giving good service and given my gluten and dairy free diet plus a need for a meal composed of protein, healthy fat, resistant starches and lots of veggies, he asked, proactively, and without making me feel like an annoyance all the right questions. Very impressive. Menu items did not demonstrate enough creativity and execution was mundane. The meals offered were nutrition “light.” Not enough plant based items, no whole grains. Just mostly cow or lamb meat, one seafood item and a few veggies for mains. Meat quality was very high. The quality of my lamb was superb and was perfectly prepared. It looked like most meat was locally raised. And while it is supposed to be a farm to table restaurant in many menu items the source was not clear. One item listed spring vegetables but what was on the plate were mostly vegetables out of season, i.e. red and green peppers, Brussels sprouts in early June. We liked the quiet atmosphere conducive to conversation and good digestion. Overall I expected more and, I hope, next time we visit I can give higher marks.
Thank you for dining with us on Monday and commenting so favorably on the welcome Luke and the team provided. We’ll be sure to share your praises and Luke will be thrilled! I am sharing your comments with our management and culinary team this morning and we appreciate the input. We look forward to your next visit and I suggest you consider a visit to our organic Kelly Way Gardens and perhaps one of our Red Barn Dinners when you return! With gratitude, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We dined outside.
It was a piece of heaven. Thomas was
an excellent server
Thank you for joining us on Sunday and sharing such very kind words about the experience! I’m delighted that you enjoyed the farm-to-table cuisine, the outdoor ambience, and especially the professional and friendly service from Thomas and the rest of the team. They will be delighted to have made such an impression on you! We hope to see you again soon; maybe for one of our Red Barn Dinners at Kelly Way Gardens? Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
The service was slow, long wait for food and no returning to the table to inquire how everything was. For the cost of the food and added gratuity, my family and I were disappointed.
My wife and I will always order the Monte Cristo for lunch- we'd call ahead to have it at our table when we're seated if we could, but a glass of wine from an excellent wine list is an equally fine place to start a relaxing lunch with quality service.
Thank you for joining us last week and sharing the review! Our local twist on the Monte Christo is a big favorite and we’re carrying it over through the summer… did you know that everything in the sandwich is produced right here in Vermont?!? I agree that a nice glass of wine before lunch is much preferable to having lunch waiting when you walk in the door… and next time please save a little room for one of our delicious house-made desserts! Cheers! Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Excellent service, really lovely sitting at an outdoor table overlooking the yard.
Best part of the meal was the maple cake dessert. Caesar was good. Chef’s special pasta was a little bland, as was the duck stew. More spice would be welcome. Wine was fine but overpriced.
Thank you for joining us on Wednesday and sharing your impressions! I’m especially glad you enjoyed our Pastry Chef’s Vermont Maple Cake and home-made 100 Jersey candied pecan ice cream. That has quickly become a favorite of our guests and will definitely remain on the menu for the summer season! Please do visit again soon to enjoy the bounty from our own certified-organic Kelly Way Gardens! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Excellent lunch...going back for a birthday dinner with friends on Saturday the 5th.
Expensive but we shared and they were very accommodating
Food was good but fish was dry. Drinks were delicious. Cheese board superb. Desserts amazing. Great ambiance
Thank you for dining with us and sharing your review. I am glad you enjoyed the ambience and a pleasant evening, although disappointed that our cuisine was not more uniformly right. We've shared your observation with our sous chefs and dining room managers, who expedite service and monitor our guests’ experiences, to help them achieve the kind of consistently we expect on behalf of our guests. We hope to see you again soon! Yours truly, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Very friendly staff greeted us. Happily took our picture as we were celebrating our 50th anniversary. Food was very good. Kindly gave us an Anniversary dessert.!!!
Thank you for celebrating your anniversary with us on Saturday evening! Our resort is known as a terrific place for special family occasions and our team always enjoys going just a little bit overboard to help celebrate! I am so glad you enjoyed the photo and that each time you look at it you’ll eb reminded of your special weekend in Woodstock. Please do return for another visit soon! Congratulation again! Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We enjoyed our dinner very much. The food was very good as was the service. They did a wonderful after dinner birthday celebration for Carolyn. The ice cream and mouse was excellent
Great staff, food and atmosphere!
Thank you for joining us for dinner last weekend and commenting on the experience! I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed the casual elegance of The Red Rooster: our regionally inspired menu as well as warm service and hospitality and a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. We all look forward to welcoming you again soon, and hope you’ll consider one of our special Red Barn Dinners at Kelly Way Gardens! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
We celebrated our wedding anniversary last night at the Red Rooster, and were hoping for a very special meal. Our arrival was really hassled; the folks in charge of seating seemed like they were rushing around and really in the weeds. The kitchen did a great job of getting out appetizers quickly, since I when I arrived I was needing to eat something as soon as possible. But my husband‘s oysters Rockefeller were too salty, okay but not great. Our cocktails took a very very long time to arrive, after our apps. As for dinner, I ordered the sweet potato gnocchi appetizer and a salad. I’m Italian. I’ve eaten good gnocchi. They were in edible. Hard and tough. The Bolognese was pretty good and my salad was lovely. My husband’s salmon dinner was very good. We were seated in the windowless room in a corner, and for a special occasion I felt like I was in a vault away from the windows and the energy of the dining room. I suppose I should’ve asked for special table. Once the staff calmed down and slowed down, they were lovely helpful and very nice.
Thank you for choosing The Red Rooster for your anniversary celebration. I am very sorry that the evening did not live up to expectations and assure you this is not how we intend to treat our guests. I have shared your comments with our entire staff and we will be coaching our team today based on your experience so we can be more consistent in the future. I hope we see you again and look forward to redeeming ourselves. Respectfully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Service was extremely slow, maître d’ explain the short staffed is because the government is paying people more money to stay home and not work.
Iwaitress brought the desert but we waited 10 minutes and got no coffee so Barbara walked over to the maître d’ and asked where the coffee was and he brought the coffee. When the bill came I was very unhappy that they added a mandatory 20% service charge.
Thank you for dining with us on Wednesday and sharing your thoughts. I apologize that service was lacking, and especially that our host responded inappropriately to your inquiry. This is an opportunity for us to communicate more clearly with our team, so they in turn can serve our guests more effectively. I am contacting you off-line to address your other concerns. Thank you again, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Wonderful meal and experience! Staff was top notch (our waiter Thomas was a pro) the food was delicious and the setting and ambiance could not have been better. We came up from Bennington for the night and look forward to coming back again. Sending love and support to all the hardworking and lovely people at Woodstock Inn & Resort.
Thank you for visiting for dinner on Saturday and for your very kind words about our food and service as well as the casually elegant ambience! Thomas is a great asset to our team, as you say, and he’ll be thrilled when we share your review! Please do consider another visit, perhaps for one of our Red barn Dinners at Kelly Way gardens! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
It is fun to be at the Inn. The food is not spectacular but not bad. we requested a table on the porch when I made the reservations but were seated inside, which was unfortunate.
Thank you for dining with us and sharing your impressions. I’m very sorry we aren’t able to guarantee outdoor seating because so many of our guests like to linger and enjoy the view over cocktails, but we’re glad you enjoyed the experience nonetheless. We hope to welcome you “home” to Woodstock again soon and invite you to sample outdoor dining at any of our three venues! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Lunch at Red Rooster is a pleasure. Lovely atmosphere, great service, very good food.
Thank you for joining us at lunch on Saturday and sharing your impressions. It’s certainly a lovely room, especially on such a glorious afternoon, and I’m happy to hear the food and service were on a par with the comfortable surroundings! We look forward to seeing you again soon! Warm regards, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Beautiful place, welcoming and great service and very good food. It is in the Woodstock Inn and Resort which is a beautiful place to escape the city and relax.
Thank you for the very complimentary review of The Woodstock Inn & Resort and The Red Rooster! We’re always happy to welcome our guests escaping from city life and we look forward to your next visit as much as we’re sure you do… please give us a call so we can help with he planning to make your next escape the best ever! Cheers, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
The food was creative and superb. Service at lunch and dinner was excellent; breakfast service was slow. Ambiance was lovely and seating was comfortable. Prices are high, but only to be expected at a top-notch resort.
Thank you for commenting on your dining experiences while staying with us at The Woodstock Inn & Resort last week! I am happy that you enjoyed each meal, and I apologize that breakfast was slightly delayed. We are looking forward to being back at 100% soon as restrictions are lifted and we emerge from this trying year; we can’t wait to share an even better experience when you return! Yours truly, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
My wife and I stopped at the Red Rooster on a whim on our way up to Burlington and I am so glad!! The food was fantastic but affordable, ambience was upscale modern rustic and very welcoming, drinks were strong AND they were seamlessly able to handle my wife's Celiac restrictions :-)
In terms of entrees I would highly recommend the land and sea, the scallops were perfect, so buttery on the inside with a beautiful sear on the outside and the braised short rib was melt-in-your-mouth delicious both served on top of creamy mashed potatoes. Our server was knowledgeable and kind, they take COVID precautions seriously -- we will definitely be back!
Thank you taking a slight detour to visit our inn while visiting Vermont last week! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed your evening in The Red Rooster so much and look forward to sharing everything our resort has to offer soon. Please do consider a longer visit next time, and call our reservations team soon so we can assist with suggestions and arrangements! Best wishes, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
When we arrived for our reservation for a quiet table for two for a birthday celebration we were asked to wait until someone was available. After waiting several minutes we were told that the only table available was a booth for four people or we could wait until something became available. It was disappointing to have made a reservation in advance and the restaurant made aware of the special occasion that a quiet table for two was not available as requested at the time of the reservation. The food and service were very good.
Thank you for choosing The Red Rooster for your birthday dinner! I apologize for the brief misunderstanding about your table on arrival. Managing a busy restaurant with our seating capacity restricted due to health concerns is a challenge, and I am very sorry we did not manage it more effectively to make your evening perfect. I hope you’ll visit again soon and look forward to regaining lost trust. Respectfully, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Our second time here this year, and it was outstanding. The menu is wonderful, the food is perfectly prepared and presented, and the service is impeccable.
Thanks for visiting again! We are always especially grateful when guests return time after time, and honored that you appreciate the great work our teams do in both the front and heart of the house! We share every guest comment with our entire team, and your words will inspire us all, for as rewarding as it is, it is hard work! That we make our guests happy and you trust us with your valuable leisure time really does make it all worthwhile! With gratitude, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Christopher was fantastic - friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.
Thank you so much for joining us last week and especially for commenting on the warm hospitality Christopher and his colleagues provided! We try to make every guest feel welcome and appreciated, and Christopher certainly does a terrific job. He’ll be delighted to be publicly recognized for his efforts and attitude! We hope to see you again soon and look forward to sharing our farm-friendly summer menu. Warm regards, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
The service was a bit slow from appetizer to entree course. My steak was a dry for “medium”. I understand that “medium” can mean a different level of doneness depending on the restaurant and chef.
Thank you for dining with us last week. I apologize that your steak was not prepared just as you would have liked, and that our service team was not more proactive in making it right for you on the spot. I hope you’ll choose to visit again soon and am confident we’ll deliver a more consistent experience and more attentive service. We very much appreciate your choosing us and look forward to the opportunity to regain your trust! Sincerely, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Went for lunch. Great place.
Good menu, well prepared, interesting choices and well presented.
The oysters rockefeller and cocktails were very good, everything else was okay, nothing special.
Delicious food, great ambience, excellent service!
We stayed at the Woodstock Inn and they did a great job at the hotel and in the restaurant. The food was great and we had a great weekend.

Superb menu, personal attention and ambiance set the stage for a perfect 52nd anniversary dinner! Will definitely return.
Thank you for choosing The Red Rooster for your anniversary dinner and sharing such warm thoughts about the food and service. We look forward to hosting you again and hope you can make it back during the summer to enjoy our “farm to table today” cuisine, or maybe one of our fabled Red Barn Dinner at Kelly Way Gardens! Be sure not to wait long before calling to reserve your spot! Fondly, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
Ambience, service, food, whole experience absolutely wonderful.
Thank you for dining with us and sharing the mice review! Outstanding ambience, service, and food definitely add up to a memorable experience, and that is just the kind of authentic Vermont hospitality our reputation is built upon! Please do plan to return with friends and family soon for another warm and convivial evening, to amke any occasion a special occasion! Very truly yours, Rick Reno, Resort Training Manager
The experience of the restaurant was very satisfying. The host who greeted us was very pleasant and lead us to our table. The waiter came and made sure we were settled and asked if we wanted a cocktail. When he brought the cocktail, he announced that these drinks were on the house because it was our fifth wedding anniversary. The food was prepared perfectly and was served hot. All in all it was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend the restaurant.
Thank you for choosing The Woodstock Inn & Resort and The Red Rooster to celebrate your wedding anniversary! I am delighted to learn that you enjoyed your evening and especially that our team made you feel welcome, appreciated, and special! We look forward to welcoming you again soon, and hope you’ll return for a summer weekend at our resort to enjoy the incredible activities, amenities, and programming the each summer brings!
