Our afternoon tea consisted of 3 finger sandwiches per person, 3 mini cakes per person and 2 scones each. I am extremely glad we didn't go for the champagne afternoon tea or that would have been an extra £10 for one glass each! Whilst the taste was there the cream and jam wasn't for the scones and as the waiting staff where harder to find than wally, it was a mistake that went unrectified.
We were shown to a very well appointed lounge, where we were allowed to choose a place to sit.
We opted for the prosecco first and this was soon followed by a well presented assortment of sandwiches, cakes and full cream tea. The ambience was pretty much perfect, right down to the well judged music which was playing throughout.
I would heartily recommend this venue to anyone and hope to return one day.
Excellent, discreet service by friendly, personable staff providing a delicious afternoon tea comprising a range of mouth-watering goodies!
Our homeward lunch stop during a weekend of classic car touring and a more appropriate spot would have been hard to find. Beautiful setting for lunch. Excellent service and lovely cream tea. Thank you
A marvellious afternoon tea to celebrate a dear friends birthday .The waiting staff were brilliant very attentive and knowledgeble .The food was delicious the new chef is excellent .Very good value and in a lovely setting . Would highly recommend it . Many thanks to all the team .
We had afternoon tea which was very nice. The service was very good and the surroundings excellent. We stayed the night at the hotel which was very comfortable, lovely grounds, friendly staff, very nice breakfast
Slow service, was served stone cold coffee. The food was dry and boring and completely uninspiring. Was also served a tower of beige ‘afternoon tea’ sandwiches and cakes. Terrible value to money. No staff around to assist with anything. No ambience at all, the place had no atmosphere. Avoid at all costs!
On arrival we were impressed with building and also the interior.
We waited ages before a gentleman came to show us to our table.
Tea and coffee was served along with the afternoon tea
Scones were very chewy not enough cream for four scones.
Tiny read rolls with various fillings and small slices of cakes
None of it did any thing for our taste beds
Fortunately for Sudbury house this had been prepaid,as I would have not paid anywhere near the asking price.
Good cup of tea and coffee
I have had far superior at the local garden centre .
Chosen out of the blue without reference to online reviews this really was a super dining experience. Yes the place was quiet but the food and accompanying wine flight were superb, would not hesitate to return
Again a wonderful evening, food fantastic, great wine, such a great place.
We booked a table for a Friday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary, thinking it would be reasonably busy and therefore have some atmosphere. However we were disappointed to find we were only diners in the whole restaurant. Despite this the service was not always as attentive as it could’ve been - I had to help myself to the wine once when my glass was empty. The food was good, all be it, typically for fine dining rather mean in terms of quantity. Having been fortunate to eat at other fining dining establishments such as Gordon Ramsay I could not put this in the same league. I suspect that was why the restaurant was empty as they are not delivering in terms of the overall experience or value. In summary a tad pretentious and over priced for what it is.
Restaurant 56 is sublime, combining exquisite food with attentive service (without being over-fussy), all within a beautifully atmospheric setting. How they haven’t been awarded a star is beyond me, it is surely only a matter of time.
Stunning food, well sourced, imaginatively combined, beautifully presented by knowledgeable and attentive staff. The recommendations from the passionate sommelier were perfectly matched to each course. The attention to detail by the whole team from the kitchen to the waiting staff was phenomenal and the thoughtful touches, like an anniversary card signed by all the staff, made it a magical evening. Thank you so much.
Very understated from the exterior but very warm and welcoming once through the door. The staff, mostly young, were charming and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely excellent. We had the tasting menu. Everything beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Compared with other top quality places we’ve visited we felt it was excellent value for money. Be aware if you require a pre-dinner cocktail you need to go to the main hotel. However, you can of course have a nice gin & tonic whilst perusing the menu. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.
Superb food and wine with excellent service - should be michelin star.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We had the most amazing evening. The front of house staff were incredible. Very professional and knowledgable whilst still being really friendly. The food was gorgeous and beautifully presented. Overall it was a fantastic experience and we are already planning when to go again!
What a brilliant selection of food and sublime flavours! The food was beautifully presented and staff were proud of each creation. Drinks were matched beautifully and brought out with great timing.
The best.. Excellent service excellent food
The cuisine was wonderfully tasty and very inventive. We had amuse bouches/more amuse bouches and a tasty version of kombucha as extras amongst our three courses. Fine dining of course means emphasis on the tastes - which were very satisfying and unusual sometimes. It is not for those who want lavish helpings.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - especially after we requested that they turn down the jazzy music, which was just a bit too intrusive for our taste. There was no problem after it was reduced to a level which enabled conversation. I would recommend no. 56 for special occasions. The wine list is extensive and by the glass it is expensive but they have a very reasonably priced bottle of Uruguayan Merlot which was lovely!
Our favourite restaurant for special occasions - always most enjoyable
Fantastic experience, great service and food. Staff were amazing. We will be heading back. Thank you so much.
We were very impressed with Restaurant 56. The service was impeccable, wine list excellent and the food was heavenly. Will definitely return
Our evening could be summed up in 'a delight in every bite'! The team obviously enjoyed what they were doing and wanted us to share their enjoyment. We were so pleased to have chosen this restaurant for a birthday celebration. They even gave a birthday card too which was a nice touch. Well done everyone.
This was our third visit over a fairly long period. The front of house team has changed but they are excellent, and the right mix of friendliness, professionalism and humour to put you at your ease yet make it a special occasion. The food was excellent and all totally different from our last visit. We had the 9 course tasting menu with the wine flight and it was extremely good and not too much food either. All in all, a great evening and I will be very keen to return when we have an excuse to do so. They also do normal course menus so you don't have to push the boat out if you don't want to. The dining room is not the cosiest because the ceiling is very high (it being an old grand house) and I suspect they would struggle to alter it - it's probably listed. The view onto the gardens from the lounge is lovely and very inviting. We will be back!
Food was excellent. Me and partner opted for the 7 course taster menu. Fresh thinking and superbly executed cooking. Matching wines good value . Interesting wines and all very very nice. Service very good. A nice touch - water still or sparkling - at no extra cost. Downside - the decor - its a lovely building but really the decor !! Does not match the excellence and freshness of the cooking. Dining room and lounge stiff and slightly uncomfortable - seats a bit low. Surprising as the Magnolia Brasserie in same building is clean, fresh and modern in style.
For the food would thoroughly recommend an absolute gem and ideally located for me - is just a ten minute walk from home.
Perfect dinner. Very romantic place. I would love to go there next time. Thank you guys.
amazing food quality, great customer service and very tactful.
the only thing could be improved it ambience and maybe making it a bit more cosy, other than that great experience
This was a wonderful experience from the staff who were knowledgeable, polite and professional but also relaxed and human, to the food which was so creative, fresh and delicious. Highly recommend
This place is fantastic. Wonderful food, the service makes you feel extra special and it's perfect for that special occasion meal. The tasting menu was exceptional and it was good to try food that I wouldn't normally choose. I will be going back!
Simply fantastic food and service. Worthy of their reputation and surely the Michelin star is only a matter of time.
Great food just not enough of it I'm afraid. Portions could be slightly bigger 3 out of four people left hungry and they are not big eaters. Suggest you have blankets at the ready for guests - in case of a fire alarm, and they have to stand outside in freezing weather - not a criticism just a good thing to be prepared for.
An outstanding dining experience from start to finish. Excellent service, knowledgable, professional and welcoming front of house staff, amazing chefs creating exceptional dishes with an extensive wine list. I would highly recommend Restaurant 56 to anyone who enjoys high end food in a relaxed environment. We can't wait to return.
As usual, we had an excellent meal. Despite our multiple food allergies, they created a 6-course tasting menu for us. Great food, lovely surroundings, and obliging staff. Highly recommended.
I took my husband to Restaurant 56 for his 30th birthday and we had the most amazing time - very relaxed feel, fantastic food and very polite and attentive staff. It really did make our day and I couldn't recommend this place enough.
Lovely, imaginative food, beautifully presented. If you counted in all the extras eg amuse bouche, etc etc it was really very reasonable. None of the dishes were simple to prepare and the matching of flavours and looks were obviously carefully planned. Excellent service. Good wine though rather expensive by the glass. Liked the reception seating area but the dining area could do with a touch more cheer.
The dining experience was fabulous....from the welcome onwards. The teamwork is excellent. The waiters provide details of each course and can be relied upon to give advice when requested. The complementary flavours of each course have to be savoured to be believed. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant and look forward to my next visit.
The food was amazing again.
We went for the 9 course tasting menu with wine, and the attention to detail and the flavours where exceptional the service was fantastic and the whole evening was one we will always remember.
Well worth a visit.
Had a wonderful meal. Staff were very friendly and would definitely come back for a special occasion
We have been raving about Restaurant 56 to our friends and family, it was amazing! We were staying in the area and I'm so pleased we made this choice. The service is exceptional and the food is verging on a culinary fantasy. Each dish was extraordinarily inventive and in addition the dishes between courses were an event in themselves. The wine recommendations were perfect (the best dessert wine I've ever had :)) and to top it all we were invited to meet Andrew Scott in the kitchen (an honour and pleasure). We can't wait to come back for a full tasting menu. Thank you to all the team.
Again - an amazing evening ! Food and service is amazing ! We did the wine journey with the meal and enjoyed some fabulous wine which matched the food beautifully!
Every mouthful was beautifully balanced and tasted sensational! Not least of which it all looked like art on a plate.
Come and enjoy the ambience service and most importantly the fabulous food .
