I dined at the Bonham on the eve of the 6 Nations Calcutta Rugby Match. I chose the vegetarian option and was very pleased with the dish. I am a regular diner at the Bonham and will be back during the 2019 6 nations.
My third visit to the Bonham,Edinburgh in the last four months. Excellent food, great ambience with top level service.
We had the 'Boozy Snoozy' option which at £23.50 for 3 courses and 1/2 bottle of wine is really good value. There was a decent choice including vegetarian options. The starter looked & sounded really good but was actually a bit dull (fregola salad). Apart from that the food was very tasty. Service was friendly & efficient without being overbearing.
It's a while since I'd been at the Bonham but it's as good as I remember it, so hopefully we will return in the not too distant future.
Food took ages to come out other then that the service was great
I dined at the Bonham on the 25th November 2017 following the Scotland versus Australia Rugby Match. The restaurant was very busy and the service suffered a little.. The food was good and I will return.
I arrived late at The Bonham due the Rugby going to extra time. Within a short time I was tucking into a Flat Iron steak cooked to perfection. Service and food was of the highest order, I will continue to dine at The Bonham.
Beautiful lunch, beautifully presented, lovely setting and fab value. Boozy snoozy highly recommended
Great food and fantastic value. Staff were efficient and friendly and dealt well with a very awkward customer at the next table.
Lovely Setting for special Dinner..Food was great and service was excellent
Great meal, atmosphere perfect. The waiting staff could have been a little more in the festive spirit. There was the impression that they did not want to be there.
On the whole our family had a lovely meal, which was great value and well presented.
Fabulous Chateau Briand great ambience. Lovely staff.
Food was beautiful
I dine here again
Exquisite flavour combinations
the waiting staff
were annoyed our late
Stale bread and
served a £50 Chablis
at room temperature, and failed
to it! They should take more pride in their work. A venue, with a product.
Chose the Bonham to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary with the family. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and ambiance was just right. Overall experience was perfect - staff couldn't have been more attentive. Chef even made a special plaque with good wishes and treats. Thanks to all staff for making our night special.
I had booked using the Open Table website and selected a time and received a confirmation email which was simple and straight forward.
I did have several missed calls from the restaurant however when we left a fringe show.
They stated that we had booked for an hour earlier and even after showing them the confirmation email, the restaurant blamed the system so I will let the Open Table and The Bonham work out who's mistake this was.
This resulted in a delay in taking our seats for the meal.
The restaurant itself was nice and had an upmarket feel to it, very classic.
The staff were helpful although they did get one starter order wrong which was clearly down to a language barrier. This mistake was quickly rectified but did mean we had a guest waiting to eat while we all had our starters.
The food was well presented and tasted good but I will admit I have had better meals in several restaurants at half the price so don't feel the price reflects the quality of the meal.
If you want to enjoy a quiet, elegant meal and don't mind paying for it then the Bonham will suit most tastes. Just don't expect to be blown away.
Very enjoyable meal, would recommend this dining experience
I dined at the Bonham following the 6 Nations Ruby Match in which Scotland were the victors.
An excellent Chateaubriand accompanied by a fine Merlot proved to be a fitting end to a victorious day. The staff as ever were attentive I will be back.
We were in Edinburgh for a few days and wanted somewhere special for a birthday celebration.
We saw the restaurant through the window and thought it looked very romantic and posh.
The decor and ambience were good and fitted the bill. The staff were polite and friendly. The food was not up to the standard one would expect from the price. The quantities were ridiculously small. My wife, who has the appetite of a bird ,was still hungry after the three courses. The chicken was described as corn fed but was colourless and tasteless. My cheese board comprised of 2 slivers of cheese about an inch square. We just had the impression everything was done to save their costs. We went on a Thursday and were restricted to their menu of the day( ala carte not available) although this was not mentioned outside or on the booking web page. Such a shame!
We are always looking for a good place to lunch, the Bonham fits the bill perfectly. Lovely dining room, great service and a limited, but good, menu. Everything we had was delicious, perfect for us ladies. The day we were there was busy but we weren't rushed in any way and it felt as if we could have stayed all afternoon. Location is ideal (just off the West End). I have been before with other friends and it never seems to disappoint.
We have been dining at the Bonham for over 10 years. The high standards found in this restaurant make for an enjoyable evening.
This was out first visit and was a birthday meal with our family. We arrived for a booking at 8pm on a Tuesday evening. We were told our table would be 5 minutes. The restaurant was quiet and after waiting for a least 15 minutes we had to ask if the table was ready yet. The restaurant had the booking for 8.30 but had not explained this to us or offered us a complimentary drink while we were waiting. The food was disappointing and very average. Would not recommend this restaurant.
Lovely lunch in relaxed setting with attentive service.
We visited the restaurant as returning customers having already been there 5 years before.
Our first visit left a positive impression on us but our second visit was less inspiring. When we visited the first time we felt the venue was classy, smart and romantic. Although the classy and smart still applied, the dining area in which we were sat in (at the front of the building) felt less romantic and just functional, so perhaps more suited to business types, or couples who are just there for a rather nice eating out venue. Another part of the dining area looked more set up for groups (which there were in attendance) but happily no noise intruded over to us. The staff, although polite and responsive, were not readily available if you wanted something and we had to wait more than once to attract attention.
However, the food itself was of very good quality and we felt the pricing was appropriate for the standard of food on the menu and it matched the venue, albeit there were limited vegetarian options. We both had a soup starter which we enjoyed (with an abundance of nice bread on offer) then I had the main course duck which was delicious. My partner was less satisfied with his vegetarian meal as the food was indistinct. The dessert was also delicious.
However, It was disappointing that when we got our bill it was incorrect, with the wrong wine being charged for. This left us feeling a little mistrusting and not the best lasting memory of our visit.
Really good venue with pre dinner drinks in the lovely sitting area. Service was very good and food overall excellently presented and more importantly very tasty.
Would use the venue again
We have been here many times including lunch, as well as dinner. Another excellant meal, with first class service.
Great food, service and value for money. Been there a few times. Never fails to impress.
Excellant sunday lunch, so relaxing, no rushing, and food was excellant.Service was first class,
and my gluten free friend had a great choice also.
Always had a great lunch at the bonham, will be back shortly.
Food was beautifully presented but portions were small. Service was excellent but only three tables , including our own, occupied in Christmas week. We have not used the Bonham for a couple of years, and would go back if the atmosphere was more convivial.
stayed at this hotel in 2013 and had several meals in the restaurant. The food was amazing, this time around i did not stay here and felt that the standard of food had dropped and the range of starters, mains and deserts was all to basic.
Arrived early but table was ready immediately. Staff top notch for service and food preparation. Not at all hurried and surprised to receive discount through booking via Open Table. Will be back again and again
We booked through Groupon, but only because l was looking for a lovely place to go on our usual saturday night dinner date. I was amazed that you could find somewhere so classy and with such gorgeous food for not a lot of money. Please don't hesitate to visit this high end, unusual dining experience. The staff are all tuned in to know exactly when to approach tables to clear off plates or take orders .. l really loved this place and you will too.
I dined at the Bonham in Edinburgh following the Calcutta Rugby Match. Unlike the rugby the Bonham was as good as ever. The main course of Belly Pork was excellent accompanied by a Margaux recommended by the Sommelier. I look forward to my next visit in March to dine after the rugby match.
Our visit started well with drinks in the bar, although staff were initially distracted by a corporate event. Moving through for dinner, we requested the '2 courses and a glass of wine for £18.50 menu'. Orders were promptly taken and we had good wine matching advice from the staff. Starters - tasty, but two ravioli's were returned as they were cold. After much apologising two fresh and hot ravioli's were served and enjoyed. Mains - very good, with the beef cheeks and mash being particularly tasty. Couldn't manage pudding. Overall very good value for money and very tasty. Dining room looses some intimacy with staff trekking food or empty plates through to any corporate event elsewhere in the hotel. Will have to have another visit.
We were not sure what to expect with a meal that promised 2 courses and 2 glasses of wine for £18 each. In the end it was great value for money but that's only if you are satisfied with very small mains. Our welcome was very nice and we were offered a choice of tables with the girl pointing out a nice window table beside a radiator. My starter of crab cocktail was superb but my partners' winter soup of Butternut Squash with Amaretto didn't work. The main of Pheasant was cooked to perfection as was my fillet of Pork 3 ways. Both dishes looked and tasted stunning but were lost on their plates, just too small. At all times the service was warm and genuine. Not sure how they can make money at these prices, probably the small portions.
My husband and I dined at the Bonham through Toptable on Friday 24th Jan. The servers were extremely friendly and very accommodating, explaining the menu with ease. The food came in a timely fashion, was presented stunningly and every mouthful was a total delight. Even though I initially thought the portions looked small, I was totally full by the end of the meal, and my tastebuds were having a party! An amazing experience start to finish.
The food and service were fantastic, would recommend.
Have dined here a few times and always had a lovely meal. Food and service first class.
Enjoyed a superb pre-Christmas lunch with friends at the always-reliable Bonham.
Had dinner for 2, standard menu. Service was excellent & the dining room lovely. We were seated next to the wall which was fine but diners near us were complaining about the draft from the door (which is next to main door of hotel) My starter (mushrooms on brioche) was great, but my husband thought his steak tartare a bit average. The mains were v good, the venison a bit chewy but the slow-cooked beef was gorgeous. However, the menu said it came with mash so we didn't order any sides. It actually came with 3 bean-sized (ie tiny) lumps of mash!! Desserts were v good in parts (cinnamon ice-cream!) but rumbaba needed more syrup & millefeuille was a bit tough. Overall good, but more attention to detail would make it great.
I dined at the Bonham on Saturday 23rd November 2013. A warm welcome followed by an excellent Gin and Tonic was a good start to the evening. I have dined here several times over the past years and the food , wine and service was as good as ever. I have no reservations in recommending this restaurant and in fact have done so in the past year.
I booked this table on Saturday for a table that evening. Got my confirmation that everything was booked.
My phone ran out of charge so it was 5:30 before it was charged up again and I picked up a message from the Bonham hotel saying they were fully booked and I did not have a table. I was very unhappy and called the hotel and restaurant several times but the phones were not answered. I would not recommend either the hotel or Top Table following this experience
