Restaurant Story London
We opened in April 2013 gaining our first Michelin star only five months after opening.
Inspired by chef Tom Sellers’ culinary career and the history of British food, our dishes are an edible story, each one inspired by a memory. We want to share these memories with you through what you see, smell and taste.
To help achieve this, we select only the freshest seasonal British produce and then pair it with an exclusive wine list featuring small wine producers and select British craft ales sourced locally.
Monday - Saturday 6:30pm - 9pm
Some exceptional dishes, some perhaps less inspiring, overall very good food, but service lacked attention to detail.
first visit to Restaurant Story and we were not disappointed. Service was friendly but intrusive. every course was outstanding.
Awesome evening. Fantastic food, with an excellent drinks pairing. I loved the tasting menu and appreciated the knowledgable staff who clearly really enjoy and are proud of their restaurant and what they offer.
Loved the personalised letter for my husbands birthday. However, was served oysters even though I specified multiple times that I have an allergy.
A birthday treat for me with my family was made extra special by a very welcome, helpful, and warm front of house team. The food was amazing and some of the best we have eaten in London. The restaurant decor was smart, contemporary and fun. We chose the wine pairings and our sommelier deserves a special mention for her knowledge, humour, and time taken with us. As was expected, it was not a cheap meal out and with additional drinks and extra courses, ended being an average of nearly £300 per person, but worth it for the experience!
Great place and great food and service and very happy about coffee.
A wonderful, intimate venue - perfect for a special date or a small group of friends. The service was amazing!
Excellent food - wine flight perfectly matched only downside was that we decided to share the truffle and celeriac dish rather than have one each dumb choice
The best tasting menu on both sides off the Atlantic.
The 8 course tasting menu was spectacular and the accompanying drinks parings per course was very adventurous with a mixture of cocktails and exclusive wines.
Twice as better than 11 Madison in New York and much better value for the money at a lower cost.
I would highly recommend this restaurant.
A superb restaurant in every way. While attempting to "rank" Michelin star restaurants in London is a subjective exercise, Restaurant Story is clearly among the best and a must to be experienced. It's not just one "signature dish" surrounded by a few good ones; it's eleven courses all tremendously great on their own. A very inventive menu with an excellent complement of cocktails/wines.
The service team is quite knowledgeable, friendly and the perfect amount of attention.
Tom Sellers and team has most nailed it!
Excellent meal and service from the staff at the restaurant and starting with champagne.
Tom and his team creative ways of using wholesome ingredients, combining and translating them into beautiful masterpieces. A tantalising food journey. Not forgetting the plating used- love it!
The restaurant should get michelin two stars at least. The chef is good at control the flavour. I strongly reccomend everyone to have a good dinner in this restaurant.
great food, very friendly service, overall a recommended experience
Decadence! Wonderful decadence! I went to the previous incarnation of Story and loved it but now I think it is even better although they have retained some of the classic features like the beef fat candle but that is now tempered with a tapenade to cut through the fatness and make it more delicious. Service was on point. My only complaint was that the wine pairing is off-puttingly expensive especially when there are very decent wines on the menu for £40-£60 a bottle, our recommended red was sublime. Try the dessert wine, something different and special
Good but was not amazing ... I spent £500 on tasting menus and one wine paring. I felt that a lot effort went on what each dish looks like, rather than focus on the flavors. The signature dish was creative, but not tasty at whole, a wow by visual but a Erm by taste. Most of the dishes was pretentious, rather than focus on the texture, flavors and wholesomeness. I was expecting a lot more, but was no where matching my expectations. There are much better taster whole hearted food in London. Sorry would not recommend, unless you have no where better to spend your money on.
Chanced upon this restaurant when searching up Michelin Star spots in London and quickly grabbed a lunch booking. Was met with great service the moment you walked into the restaurant and we were quickly seated and attended to from apertiv to choosing our tasting courses. They offered a 5 and 8 course tasting menu of which you were meant to be surprised with no actual menu / ingredients to choose from.
Absolutely loved each dish that came (will keep the surprise going) and I have to say that the dishes were innovative and fun to eat with textures on each and every plate.
Definitely a big recommendation from me and lovely front of the house as well!
Amazing Food, really bad wine accompaniment (only 2 of 9 matching), chaotic and impersonal service. This was far away from a Michelin-Star.
A poor one Michelin starred restaurant.
The food was bland and the service was sterile.
I cannot fault this restaurant in anything! The food was incredible and the service was impeccable! The staff were well trained but rather than being snooty (which i tend to find they are in places like this!) they were very down to earth and honest when they did not know the answer to a question, they made us feel very relaxed in such a fancy restaurant. The atmosphere is great, with only 10 tables in the restaurant it means you are well looked after. My drop in a star is not because of the restaurant but because of some people at another table who spent most of their evening on their phones asking for the wifi which i felt ruined the atmosphere the restaurant try so hard to create.
I felt completely immersed in what felt like an intimate setting when choosing an 11 course taster menu that lasted 4 hours! An absolute delight
Fantastic food and drinks. Notably more expensive since it has re-opened, but this is the only thing holding it back from 5 stars.
We had a great time. Staff were amazing!!!! Can't recommend enough. Everything you want from a Michelin Starred restaurant.
We went for an experience at Story for a birthday celebration. It was no doubt an occasion we will remember for a long time! The detail to service was great, from the letter addressed to the birthday girl, to the way everyone's plate at the table was placed down at the same time - it was an experience I would recommend. I would also like to point out that the desserts there were my favourite part of the meal, especially because there was so much variety and everything was edible! Do bear in mind that with this paced out tasting menu, your lunch easily turns into a 3 - 4hr activity!
Excellent meal, every course a delight. My only disappointment was the restaurant’s Cancellation policy. Having looked forward for some time to our evening, my husband was taken ill the night before. I would have liked to postpone the occasion so that he could enjoy it too. However, the cancellation would have cost us £300 (it was a reservation for 4 people) and in the circumstances my husband urged us to go without him, which we did. I appreciate it is a small restaurant and that they need to have a cancellation policy but I had hoped for some flexibility.
Amazing creative food beautifully presented both by the kitchen and waiters. Sommelier was fantastic too. Lovely evening.
Outstanding food with phenomenal service. Strongly recommend.
Definitely a must-go Michelin star restaurant here in London. The food was amazing. The famous rabbit sandwich was really really good. Wasn't a big fan of the bread and melting-candle course but it was interstingly presented. But the DESSERTS!! There were three dessert dishes, and all of them were beyond incredible. I would love for them to do a desserts-only course menu ha :)
I also love its edginess and unconceited atmosphere. It might feel like other fine-dining places when you first walk in. But then you quickly realized that's not the case. The staff was super polite and friendly. Two hours later (after halfway through the meal), they started playing songs ranging from Eminem to John Lennon. We found that to be very refreshing. I mean where else can you get that. They served us epic food and epic tracks...
If you don't eat a lot, I think the 5-course menu is more than enough. For us, since we tend to be on the smaller side, it was "dine til we drop" ha, but definitely worth the price.
The manager and staff were very accommodating with my 4 year old. The food was exceptional.
We had a 5 course tasting menu lunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. The meal was very interesting, with the chef's creativity showing through. My highlight was a "Bloody Mary" cocktail which wasn't quite why I expected: they produced their own tomato consommé (clear, not red) from heritage tomatoes, did not look at all like tomato juice, but tasted really nicely of tomatoes. There was a bread and beef dropping dish which constituted a course, which I felt was a bit too underwhelming to be considered a course. It should have been provided as table bread to have available throughout the meal instead. Other dishes were cooked very nicely and were satisfyingly tasty, although the portion sizes were much too small!
Very creative as always and love the food combination and treatment! :)
very professional service and i would definitely come back again if i ever come to London again!
Restaurant Story is outstanding. This was a return visit for us, having waited since our previous visit in 2014 for them to change their menu.
The menu isn't published on the website, it's personalised on the evening, so no spoilers (hence no photos) from me either. We had the 9 course taster and the wine flight. There was an extensive wine list, however when you don't know what you're going to be eating, the wine flight is the best option, each drink (not all wines) is meticulously matched to its course.
The food is precise, beautiful, spectacular in the literal sense and most of all a complex mix of tastes and textures, but oh so easily appreciated. Even down to the crockery it's served on, everything is considered carefully to create the most wonderful meal. Portion sizes for a tasting menu are perfect, as were the glass sizes. We've eaten many taster menus with wine and have ended up having to leave some of the wine because we just couldn't keep up. At Story it was all spot on.
The staff are exactly what you would expect - well trained, knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble - unless you ask for a gin martini, when you will be told in no uncertain terms that they only serve a vodka martini. This nearly marred the start of the whole evening for my husband who is very fond of the fact that you should be able to ask for any drink in a high end place and they will most certainly create it for you. As it was simply a switch between pouring a vodka and pouring a gin into a glass he wasn't very happy, however this was the only slightly black mark in the whole evening.
This is absolutely a "special occasion restaurant" - it is eyewateringly expensive. We regularly eat at Michelin starred places but at £600 (inc service) for a dinner for 2 it was easily the most we have spent on dinner, so do be prepared for that. Is it worth it? Well, as they like to say in that famous advert, you can put a price on the food, but the experience itself was priceless.
I think probably the best meal I have ever eaten and service to match.
Everything was just perfection!!
Stunning, invent and evocative gastronomy in a stunning building
Jolly superb! Where do I begin...
The experience was magical, it started with the wine and it just got better with every course. The food was amazing! It had originality in its presentation, colour, texture, the flavours were mind blowing and everything was beyond perfect. A restaurant everyone must visit if you’re a foodie like me and a place I’m sure to return to when in London.
This was my second visit and, much like the first, everything was perfect. Gorgeous food, lovely (reasonably priced) wine, super helpful staff, and a really intimate atmosphere. A really special evening, thank you!
Absolutely fantastic!! Personal and special
There is no shortage of good restaurants in London but this place is something special! It was my husbands birthday and the staff had made a card for him and greeted him by his name. The chef interacted with patrons and we went to the kitchen. Everyone was kind and caring and made the experience extra special. The food was absolutely incredible!!
It was undoubtedly a great meal - I would rank it as equal with the best meals we've had, alongside Midsummer House in Cambridge. Each course was imaginative without tripping over the line into being twee or silly. The reason for giving 4 out of 5 on value is that at these prices it should of course be excellent. The reason for knocking a star off the ambience rating is that we were seated side by side on a rather annoying banquette. As well as feeling like you are sitting on a bus seat together the banquette itself has poor back support, which is quite important given we were seated for 4.5 hours. (We did ask for a cushion and were told they only have one cushion for the use of pregnant customers. Let's hope they never have two pregnant customers at once.) So if you suffer back pain be sure to ask for a table with chairs!
It was my first visit to Restaurant Story and i love it!
wonderful food and very professional service, yet it's still very relaxing.
Love everything here!
