Restaurant Story London
We opened in April 2013 gaining our first Michelin star only five months after opening.
Inspired by chef Tom Sellers’ culinary career and the history of British food, our dishes are an edible story, each one inspired by a memory. We want to share these memories with you through what you see, smell and taste.
To help achieve this, we select only the freshest seasonal British produce and then pair it with an exclusive wine list featuring small wine producers and select British craft ales sourced locally.
As usual, simply exceptional
Absolutely delicious stunning original food , a little bit pricey and Ill fitting waiters jackets but highly recommended!!!
Out of this world. Food.. drinks.. helpfulness & professionalism of staff when I had trouble my bank card.. 11/10, would do again 🤩
Amazing all round experience
Enchanting and deliciously prepared food
We were lucky enough to get a lunch reservation on a Saturday. The restaurant is small, with maybe ten tables, and has a lovely view of the garden outside. The wait staff is wonderful and attentive, and the kitchen is open, so all can observe.
Our meal was an eight course tasting menu, although we started with 4 “snacks,” one bite tastes. These set up the meal well; as each was unique and an array of tastes and textures.
The highlights from our courses for me were the main course of lamb. We were shown our partially cooked rack, and then it was brought out perfectly cooked, accompanied by a smoked aubergine purée, potato galette and sweetbreads. This was followed by the Paddington, a brioche with marmelade (such incredible flavor) on top of grated fois gras. Served beautifully and delicious. Of the two desserts, the almond and dill dessert was awesome. You get to mix it all together and the flavors are wonderful, not to say the rest of the courses weren’t delicious as well.
The drink pairings were perfect. A combinations of wine and 2 cocktails, they were all perfectly paired with the food. The sommelier was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain each taste in detail.
We finished with some extra sweets, all of which were delicious.
Between the food, the staff and the setting, this is the perfect place for a special occasion, provided you can get in.
Perhaps the best restaurant experience I have ever had. The combination of the flavors in the food was like listening to a symphony. Every flavor is distinct yet in combination they create this rousing experience. There were many moments when I went "oooh" as the flavors exploded in my mouth. The service was as if you have a personal chef with his own staff. They were very precise in trying to identify my special needs and desires. I had omitted to identify that I should not eat too much Vitamin K which is found in green leafy vegetables. One of the courses was essentially based in a spinach soup. After I only had a small amount the server reported this to the chef who came out personally to apologise, even though it was my fault. Thereafter they adjusted the menu to take account of that specific requirement. The 10 courses were expertly proportioned so you do not feel excessively full after the meal. Oh wow! That's all I can say.
Cumpleaños de mi esposa.
We opted for the 10-course taster menu, but in total, had around 13 dishes across our 4.5-hour stay - the time really did fly by!
The food was delicious (as expected) and inventively arranged and created surprise on multiple occasions.
Service was impeccable and the staff made every effort to make our night out a unique and memorable one.
Would highly recommend and certainly be back!
Transformation culinary and unique beverage paring. Hard to recall a better experience in London!
Excellent service with a unique menu and great experience in a very relaxed environment.
Excellent dinner, superb food and highly attentive service
Best food i’ve ever had, totally got my dietary needs, great service, We will be back!
The whole experience was special. We were well looked after by a fab team and the food was amazing.
This is not just “going out for dinner”. Having eaten at many high end and Michelin restaurants, Restaurant Story epitomises the experience of eating at a Michelin restaurant.
Initially in the reserve list for dinner, we decided to book for lunch. This is where the experience started. We received a call five minutes after to booking to check details, etc then five minutes after that we got a call asking if we would like to change to a dinner reservation - excellent. Jenny confirmed allergies and dislikes and en email confirmation was received.
On arrival, we were given a warm welcome and shown straight to our table in the intimate dining room. An envelope with our names in was on the table, containing a brief letter wishing us a happy anniversary. Essentially, each table is a “Kitchen Table” of sorts, with the finishing kitchen being open for all to see in. Again, allergies and dislikes were checked, a pre-meal drink offered and the menu and wine pairings explained - with no idea given to what the menu will be. There’s also a supplementary course - which we opted for.
I won’t spoil things by detailing the meal we had. Suffice to say, we were taken on a culinary journey which showcased some fine, classic techniques and pairings along with some which made you stop and think, but by the time your tastebuds caught up with your thoughts, your mind was blown with thoughts of “It shouldn’t, but it does”.
Often overlooked, but in my opinion an essential part of the experience, is the service. At Restaurant Story, the service was impeccable. From being welcomed by Jenny, to the Sommelier, to the entire waiting team - second to none. A small intimate dining room yet you felt like you were the only people they were serving. Above all else, there is no pretence here. We had full on conversations - initiated by us (they will leave you alone if you wish) which felt like we were chatting with old friends.
Thank you all so much!
An over the top experience that somehow was still balanced and focused. The story the meal told was lovely and we couldn’t have been more comfortable in the setting and with the staff. Quite an indulgence.
Amazing food and insane service - would highly recommend for a special occasion
We had a fabulous time: the food was absolutely wonderful as was the service. The food is inventive without being gimmicky The atmosphere was relaxed and as it looks like there is only space for 25 ish covers it feels intimate and personal. The head chef came to our table several times to talk to us which was a great touch. Will absolutely be coming back.
Food was stunning and service was amazing.
Food and service were both excellent. Some really interesting and different dishes. A lovely relaxed place for lunch.
The food was outstanding - a true culinary experience. The service exemplary- somewhere to celebrate a special occasion.
I had to give it a few days to digest before I came to conclusion on Restaurant Story. It was a lovely experience and my girlfriend (it was her birthday meal) thoroughly enjoyed it. The drinks were expertly crafted by an in-house mixologist and the food was lovely, including the sweets that was nicely boxed up for us to take away. I must say the only draw-back, given that this is a Michelin Star restaurant was the fact that I had to send the scallops back as there was a hair pressed into one of the scallops, which I was not expecting from a restaurant of this caliber and price-point. That said, a new dish was made and plated up within a few minutes. As said, it was an experience that I would recommend, but I probably won't be returning as I feel the price could be reduced a little - £150 pp is steep excluding drinks and tip!!!
Birthday, this place we believe is best enjoyed as a special occasion, not the sort to go to more than once or twice a year
Restaurant Story is a great experience. The food is spectacular but may take second fiddle to the service. The entire staff is knowledgeable, friendly and engaged to make for a phenomenal experience.
A wonderful experience, the food was clever, thoughtful and amazingly presented. To top it off the service was the best i’ve had.
A great dining experience! The Head Chef, Tom, runs a very good kitchen with the taste and timing spot on. All of the staff are very attentive and friendly. The only issue was that the meal had to end. Can not wait to go back to experience a new menu
The team was clearly not on top form and the atmosphere was poor - we could see and hear an interview for a trial been done, not the standards expected.
The lunch did feel like a natural flow and I must say the portions were very small - The lamb loin was borderline canapé sized.
To complete the ‘experience’ we were not even asked how was our meal and if we did enjoy our food / drinks!
A shame, as was really looking forward to it, but overall disappointed is the only word that describes the visit.
Amazing night food was outstanding staff were knowledgeable but a couple servers were not English speaking very hard to understand the Asian server was great you guys are so close to 2stars Michelin
Fabulous food. Truly extraordinary and creative. Expensive but worth it.
We came here 18 months ago and loved every second. We finally got around to coming again on Tuesday 16th April with some friends and we were so amazed by everything the food was once again outstanding the service was Brilliant sommelier cat was very helpful with our choice of wines to go with the menu and we got to try some wines that we would of never thought of picking. Overall we were very happy with the whole evening and found it an amazing experience from start to end.
10 course tasting menu was creative and well executed. The crust on the bread for the beef dripping course was a little too tough and not inspiring compared to the other courses. Sweetbreads may not be to everyone's liking. Whilst service was 5 hours we appreciated the 'story' or memories when explained by the waiters.
Creative foodie fest
A wonderful dining experience with fabulous food combinations you haven’t had before. Wonderful, friendly staff who make you feel very special.
I’ve been here a couple of times now and they never fail to deliver the utmost dining experience. One of my absolute favourite restaurants in London!
A wonderful meal for my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary. Food was delicious, service attentive and atmosphere excellent. A lovely occasion.
Superb food. Just found the service a bit staid and lacking in personality. We are foodies and love our wine but the vigneron seemed almost to avoid engaging. It was all a bit robotic and all the walking in one direction nonsense just makes what should be an outstanding lunch, a little bit disappointing.
This was a return visit. Enjoyed it, but it wasn’t as good as the first visit.
I had been before so, after their refurbishment, we came for a special family lunch and Story did not disappoint. Having really pushed the boat out and gone for the full Story and drinks pairing we settled back and received exquisite food, drink and service. Every course was visually interesting, tasted great and had an element of surprise. The drink pairings were equally good. As Story only does taster menus you don't get to choose but the snail ravioli, the venison, the desserts all stood out against the wonderful competition! Save up, book early, forget the cost and enjoy the experience.
Wine pairing needs lot more work and for £15 a glass I expect note than a thimble!!!!
Otherwise great. Just a few things to sort but our bill was almost £700 so...
Amazing experience. Food was incredible, and the attention to detail was amazing. Staff very friendly, attentive and clearly enjoy where they work.
The occasion for the night was a birthday for the lady. The food and dining experience was somewhat unique and pleasurable. However, as it was a celebration for a birthday, I feel that the restaurant, having obtained a Michelin star, did not live up to its standards and my expectations. Most restaurants, whether it be fine dining or Michelin would provide a minor celebratory gift and cake for the host. Restaurant Story failed in this area and hence why we were fairly disappointed by the end of our dining experience. All that was given was a birthday letter with no celebration, this was one of the reasons we came out for dinner. Slightly appalled, I expect more from a Michelin restaurant.
