Inn at Taughannock
We were very surprised and appreciative that the hostess gave us a wonderful window seat up in the “balcony” - better then regular window seat. WE were completely surprised and appreciative that they recognized and gave us a bottle of champagne since we celebrating our anniversaries. We were disappointed in the selection of entrees - we have been there years ago and they seem to have cut back on the entree offerings and did away with the “family style” way of serving. Our entrees were good to very good but not exactly what we were looking to order.
Had a very pleasant dinner. The food was excellent in flavor, but the presentation was a little bland and the serving size is quite small. Nice wine at a reasonable price. Service was attentive and friendly. The view was outstanding from our window table. Definitely recommend for a special occasion or just a relaxing summer evening meal.
We had an excellent experience from the moment we arrived. We were greeted at the door and directed to the bar while they were getting our table ready. Our waitress was excellent and the food was perfect. View was perfect, we had a table right at the window. We all had a different entree and each one was different and great! Umar was the best!!
I would recommend to a friend based on the atmosphere and food. My recommendation would come with the disclaimer that the service was lacking. We were told several times that they were very busy and it seemed they were under staffed for the evening with two servers. We waited 30 minutes for a server to come to our table. If we return, we would order drinks from the bar first before being seated. Once our food and beverages came we were very pleased with both.
This past weekend my boyfriend and I stayed at the Inn at Taughannock.
What a beautiful, scenic spot. The atmostphere, staff and owners were more than friendly making our experience personal and perfect. The room we stayed in was clean, spacious and relaxing.
Dinner was delicious along with breakfast and cocktails they serve.
I would defeinately come back here for an overall great weekend and would recommend this place to my friends and family.
The food was very good and the atmosphere was excellent, we ordered two drinks and they were as much as the cost of one meal. I do not think I will be ordering drinks there again. Overall it was a very good memory
Lovely time! The food was delicious and the service was amazing! This was our second time here and both experiences were perfect.
The only thing I would suggest is to correct the dessert menu, which had items erroneously marked "V." First, it was not clear if the "V" was for vegan or vegetarian. Second, some of the items were definitely neither vegan nor vegetarian, and still marked "V."
While the location is beautiful and the staff is kind, we were disappointed in our visit to the restaurant. The chef takes liberties And makes changes to meals without notice - my husband received risotto instead of whipped potatoes with his scallops and my potatoes were not prepared as stated (and described when asked for clarification) with the tenderloin. We also wanted salads and were assured the rainbow salads were good- unfortunately it wasn’t really a salad but instead just slices of tomato (that wasn’t very ripe) and beets with a large serving of cheese. I’d specifically asked about the salads as I was sharing with my 11-yr-old daughter (no children’s menu) and wanted to make sure she would enjoy it as well. The tomatoes and beets came out quickly but we waited for about 40 minutes after we finished with them for our meal - and the restaurant was not busy. Our meal was the most expensive of our week in Ithaca (about $125) and we walked away disappointed.
We've always liked eating at Taughannock Farms Inn because of the ambience. The building is beautiful, surpassed only by the magnificent view--even more impressive on a sunny, summer day. As a rule, the food is good, but not spectacular. On this visit, however, there were some fine dishes. The risotto under the perfectly seared scallops was delectable, and the calamari was also perfectly cooked. My husband found the steak difficult to cut and chew--even if it was cooked as he requested--so had to send it back. Both he and my dad enjoyed the chicken parmesan dinner--good, but nothing special. Our server (Christine, I think) was excellent--professional, yet friendly, gracious, and clearly knowledgeable about the food. She recommended that we save room for dessert, and we were not disappointed. She also fixed the faux pas of the hostess. We arrived early on purpose to have a cocktail before dinner. The hostess seemed to find our arrival an annoyance. She directed us to the bar, but there was no bar tender. After quite some time, she arrived to ask us what we would like. When I asked for a wine list, she acted annoyed again, particularly when she saw that I expected her to deliver it to me instead of standing up and going to her at the bar. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine. She opened it, plopped it on the table along with three wine glasses, and walked away. We wondered why she had neither provided champagne flutes nor poured the wine. When we were seated, our gracious waitress brought us champagne flutes and transferred the wine for us. Overall, we enjoyed a pleasant evening.
DELICIOUS! Great service spectacular view we had a wonderful evening.
Small menu. Not much to choose from. more expensive than necessary. Delivery of food was inappropriate. Was told they ran out of bread and it would be 15 minutes. Ordered an expensive salad which should’ve been included in the price of my meal. The salad came 10 minutes after the bread and then my entree came 30 seconds later.
😩 at that point I couldn’t enjoy my expensive salad since my food was getting cold. Ordered chicken parm. Was supposed to come with fettuccini noodles. But came with egg noodles😩.
Waitress kept apologizing, but that just irritated me. For as expensive as the food cost, it should’ve been ran and organized better. It was very pretty and the view was beautiful. The salad tasted good. And my meal was hot. But overall my experience was very disappointing!!
Great view of the lake. Service was excellent. Wine perfect.
We hadn’t been back for several years and the current ownership has changed to an a la carte menu. It used to be that you select an entree and it came with salad, an appetizer and a dessert so it was not as good a value as it used to be. The food was still delicious and of course you can’t beat the views!
The waitress was perhaps the best EVER. I'm sorry that I didn't get her name to give her a proper shutout (she has 3 boys). The food is exquisite! Excellent Calamari, Salmon, Turkey dinner, and scallops!! Highly, highly, highly recommend.
Excellent meal with local wine in a beautiful setting.
In a word: beautiful! The building, the view, the food, and the service were everything you would want in celebrating (anniversary, birthday, Mothers Day, or just a wonderful day) our special day together. Thank you Taughannock Inn for a wonderful meal experience.
The food was delicious. We ordered the crab cake and it was outstanding. Our entrees were delicious as well, we really enjoyed them. Our desert was the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, so amazingly fresh and delicious. Christine was our server and was excellent. She is so friendly, pleasant and efficient . She was very knowledgeable about the menu and the finger lakes area. She gave us some great recommendations. The rest of the staff was wonderful as well, Loyd and Tiffany go out of their way to make sure you were comfortable.
I would recommend this restaurant and staying at this Inn to all. It was a relaxing, atmospheric, and pleasant experience, I will return.
Beautiful views of Cayuga Lake and the food was awesome. Wine list is short but good variety, heavy on FLX. Had the vegetable charcuterie platter and the awesome burger, both excellent. They grind a proprietary mix of meats into the ground Patty, and it was cooked perfectly.
Delightful evening. We arrived a bit early and were treated to one of the best tables in the house, with a lovely view of the lake. The waitstaff were very engaging and attentive, and the food was excellent. We first shared a beautifully presented salad, then an excellent chicken parmesan. The size of the portions was such that we were very well satisfied only ordering those two dishes between us. As an unexpected bonus, it happened that the couple at the table next to us were celebrating their wedding anniversary, as were the couple behind them, and on hearing that we are also a Cornell couple, we all shared reminiscences of our respective university days. Altogether a wonderful experience. We'll be back.
Nice location but very few vegetarian options (e.g., only one entree).
Outstanding service. Food was delicious!
The service was slow, especially waiting for food to arrive from kitchen. They ran out of many items on the menu. We felt bad for waitstaff as they seemed not well supported by management.
We were excited to dine at the Inn at Taughannock. Unfortunately, the entire experience was lacking. We asked for a table by the windows and were told that they were all reserved despite a largely empty restaurant (with open tables near the windows staying empty throughout our 2+ hour meal). Then we ordered two very simple dinner dishes and proceeded to wait...and wait....and wait...while others around us were seated, dined on multiple courses, paid their bills and left. It took nearly an hour before our dinner was served and despite the long wait time, our food was undercooked and mediocre. The table sitting next to us sent back their food 3 times due to poor preparation! The staff were apologetic for the wait and did compensate with a free drink and dessert but even that didn't make up for the lackluster dining experience.
Came for our anniversary. Dinner was delicious, the view was beautiful and the staff was very accommodating. We spent the night at the inn as well which was wonderful. Definitely will be back.
Have been to the Inn for dinner many times. It has always exceeded my expectations in all categories. Brunch, an early Father's Day Celebration for us, was a disappointment. The food just plainly was not good. The French toast and Johnny cakes were dry and pretty tasteless. The seasonal fruit was 2 strawberries and two grapes. We did ask for maple syrup which helped. The wait staff was friendly but we had to keep finding someone to fill our coffee cups. The restaurant is beautiful as were the views but I was disappointed in the experience.
We had a pleasant stay in the Hillside home. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed. The Keurig coffeemaker was much appreciated. Dinner at the Inn was excellent! Everything delicious and nicely presented. We would stay again!
Dessert was our only disappointment. Otherwise it was a grand evening of celebration
Great view. Great food! Beautiful view...a must see!
Beautiful setting and very good meal. Staff at the restaurant and inn are very friendly and attentive. I would recommend both the inn and restaurant.
we have eaten here several times in the past and always were more than happy. This trip is the last time we will eat there. The food was cold, the service was awful and they weren't even busy (that's not a surprise after this outing). Asked half the party if they wanted desert before me and my wife were half way thru our dinner. Dinners came in after us and ordered Hamburg's and got bread at the table. We were never offered bread until I flagged the waiter down to get some. They brought us coffee with no sugar or cream - and by the time it arrived the coffee was cold. Very disappointed that they have taken a great restaurant to this low level or food preparation and service.
I had a party of 8 for my son's graduation from ithaca. Service was amazing, we loved lloyd our waiter. The food was delicious and the view was besutiful. A wonderful experience and everyone was very happy! Thank you.
The setting is beautiful. Very pretty Inn, overlooking Cayuga Lake with wonderful views, and right near Taughannock Falls. The food was quite good, well prepared, with large portions. Unfortunately, the service was very, very slow and inattentive. The staff claimed they were having trouble with a new computer system. Also, maybe they were thrown by the extra crowds during graduation weekend for Ithaca College. In any case, I recommend going, (especially as a great place for students to bring the parents) but perhaps wait a few weeks and don't go on a busy weekend.
I went here for a special occasion and this was my first visit to the Inn. My dinner( duck breast) was cooked perfectly and was the right portion. My wife's Turkey breast dinner was also very good. The ambience with looking over the lake was a great view, was generally quiet , but the acoustics of the dining room elevated the noise level a little. We were very happy with the service , atmosphere, pace of dining, and food and will be returning again.
Absolutely fantastic food! The view is spectacular. We loved it. Can't wait to go back.
Not good.:. It was like a bod movie.... the waiter did not know the menu & in fact gave us wrong info... the wait was long & it was not totally busy!!! When we asked about dessert ... it too 5-8 minuets to get the list... we left without ordering dessert & went to Purity Ice Cream which was very busy but we were served immediately !!!
It was my 77 birthday day & I was truly disappointed!!!!!!
Although we had a reservation for weeks and it was confirmed the day before, the restaurant was closed down for the season. When we arrived - the woman was not even apologetic. She said they had contacted everyone and could not see a reservation for us. I asked her why we had received an email the day before, enduring that we confirmed and she said it was open tables fault. It was hugely disappointing, particularly as we had planned around the visit to the restaurant for brunch.
Food was just terrible. Haven't been there is many years but heard it underwent a major renovation. Not true. Same rickety, uncomfortable chairs, etc. Staff was nice, but the food was not good at all. Basic salads, the driest turkey EVER. Would never go back. We decided to have dessert at another restaurant in Ithaca instead of staying.
Beautiful hilltop view of Cayuga lake and the fall colors, nice ambiance. The best part was the staff - I took my boyfriend to Sunday brunch for his birthday after making an OpenTable reservation, and all the staff wished him a happy birthday throughout the meal. They even made it extra special for us with an on-the-house dessert. Would recommend to anyone looking for a scenic upscale dining experience.
Service was poor. Wait staff seemed uninterested in service. Orders not delivered as requested. Large piece of plastic found in one meal. Not much concern about this on the part of the staff, luckily caught before a potential medical emergency. I remember when this restaurant was a shining star in the region. Unfortunately, no longer.
