The Kolkata Club was born out of nostalgia: our memories of going to the clubs with our parents when we were children, and then ourselves as adults; lazy conversations over a cup of tea or a drink at the bar, the comfort of meeting the same people regularly, and a menu that we had almost memorized.
Went there on my wedding anniversary dinner with special recommendation from friends. THERE WAS A FLY IN OUR WATER. Was disappointed, the food was not good at all, neither the apps nor the main course. Both me and my wife had terrible stomach upset after the food to go with the negatives. The Paneer app was full of salt so they removed it from the bill but other than that nothing else for the fly in the water at the start of the dinner, it ruined our hunger and we wanted to leave but since we had a small baby and no other reservation , we had no choice but to sit for rest of the food. There are other Amazon Indian restaurants so better go there..
Vegetarian food is delicious. Flavourful and not too spicy. Great interiors, intimate seating. Great for family setting
1. Lighting is poor
2. Did not like the seating, despite reservation they did not allocate a better table to us despite the restaurant being empty.
3. Fly was hovering around the table.
4. Menu card was dirty and many items on the menu was not available as a selection.
Excellent, flavorful and unique Indian food. Great ambiance and really good service.
The mutton sheesh kabab, veggie tikka masala and mishti pulao were all outstanding!
The club works on ambiance and tried to make the visitors feel that they in a special place. However, the food was a complete let down. Too spicy, and of poor quality. Service was very good, but again, not enough to make up for the poor quality of food.
Use much better quality ingredients, fresher meat and vegetable and perhaps invest in a better cook. We may come back, but certainly not right away. Sorry about that ...
Excellent food and service, would recommend a little less sodium to be used. Beautiful decor and will definitely go back to try out some more off the menu.
When we initially visited this restaurant in late 2018 it was outstanding- we recommended it to everyone. And then we had the worst experience on NYE - we didn’t get our food - and waited a while before we went back. The food is still above that of other Indian restaurants in the GTA but the service and overall experience is now really bad. It is disappointing as this was a very good place to dine.
Invited guests for a family birthday dinner. Visited exactly after 1 year.
Good: Somewhat good food! This is what matters right? Fish fingers here is totally not what people from Kolkata are familiar with. I expected a finger roll with mustard dip.
Bad: Very poor service
Flies - too many flies!! There are simple soap & vinegar solutions which actually work. Try them.
Dirty Menu’s - guys I’m sure they can be cleaned! Food stains on menu’s? You’re charging premium prices so the experience should be somewhat premium, no?
Waitress have no idea about the food items.
Poor service generally - dirty dishes removed nearly 20 minutes after we finished. No one came by to ask if we needed anything. Before guests arrived, I briefed the waitress about the event and to bring a candle etc...when it was time, she was clueless about what I was saying.
Guys I think the management and staff need to visit some local restaurants to learn how servers do their job.
Overall - poor job!! Will never risk again with guests, maybe to check it out individually after some time.
One request change the name...Club culture in Kolkata is far more eloquent..you’re ruining the name of a City!!
Beautiful spot with a stunning ambience. Decor totally current and in trend. Our waiter was very very pleasant and even treated us with a free round once he found out it was our anniversary. Only one negative was the chili chicken was on the salty side, but other than that everything else was perfect! Highly recommend!
Quality is good but taste ok and quantity small. For example, butter chicken that costs 18 dollars only good for 2 people. Bangali Bhirayni best dish - also portion small.
Had to call the server several times to help us. All were helpful but did not come often to check or even ask for drinks. Service charge was 18% given we were 6 persons and based on that service was poor to fair.
North Indian food, not Kolkata food. Please do not get misled by the name Kolkata in it. Their "Kolkata" dishes tasted nothing like how they should.
The food was fantastic, however the service left more to be desired. We ordered a bottle of wine that we had to ask for , twice ..and they just left the bottle on the table without uncorking it or serving it.
Loved the food and the place. The puchka shots was the highlight...the food was great, portion size quite good...went for my wife’s birthday and the let us bring a cake from outside and also gave us a free dessert. Definitely would recommend this place and go back again.
We took family there for dinner and they loved it. A 50th birthday party was about to start though so the music got really loud and we felt a bit rushed out the door. But the food was wonderful as was the service.
Made an actual reservation online, went to the restaurant to be told that they were full and there was a 45 minute wait time!!! Ridiculously unprofessional-don’t allow online reservations then
Great food, good presentation & good quantity with pleasant ambience.
We were there to celebrate a bday, the server was amazing, very friendly. The food was top notch and ambience and music were great as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our time, highly recommended.
A tad too dark with lighting being dim, made it hard to read the menu and even see what we are eating. Other than that, everything else was great.
Not the best experience
Based on the pictures and menu descriptions this place seems upscale and unique. But it is very average. The value is not worth it at all. Staff is very kind and helpful but that is not worth $125 for 2 people for a very average meal and one drink each.
It’s not bad but this comes off as a modern Indian fusion sort of place - but it is very average Indian food. Did not have any cocktails so can’t comment on that, but I was charged extra for gingerale after ordering a vodka gingerale- places that get greedy usually go out of business because people take notice and get turned off by it. I will not be returning. Would not recommend.
It was my sisters Birthday!! Average experience !!
Poor service, poor quality food, high cost, high noise levels. Spoiling the name of the iconic city used to name the restaurant after.
Ordered Lamp chops but it wasn't the same as usual at all.. Not worth the money!
Went for a birthday dinner. Felt that the tables might have been a bit too small for a party of four. The servers were quite gracious and accommodating, the live music was a good touch however a tad bit too loud at times. The food was good, the portions were reasonable and the prices were fair. Some of the curries are a bit hit or miss, however I would most definitely recommend the salmon fish tandoori appetizer which was quite delicious! Overall, a decent restaurant!
Amazing Food and amazing customer service. The staff was well trained.
Awesome food, great ambiance. Will surely visit again.
Great food and great service, definitely recommend to visit....!!!
The service was very slow, and the food didn’t come the way as requested!
Beautiful decor, loved the dim lighting. Food was great but it took a while to get to us. Severs were polite but a little confused when we asked questions about drinks/bar items. It was Valentine's day so I was hoping it would be a little quieter than it was, but there were several families also dining in that day. I would return for the food and fancy drinks!
Calcutta Fish fingers, lasun cauliflower and masala peanuts with lotus roots are very good with drinks.
Mango Lassie was good.
Dak Bungalow chicken and naans were very good. Calcutta Mutton Dum biryani was okay ( nowhere as good as authentic Hyderabad biryanis).
we were in the area and decided to try this place out. the food was amazing. and the team was super eager to ensure we had a great time. the owner came by often to check in.
we had the tandoori fish which was the best item we had. It was presented really nicely on the dish, and it was lights out delicious!
then we had the garlic pepper prawns, and again they were really great and every dish we had from this place was made to taste amazing.
it is nice to go to an Indian food restaurant that is trying to modernize the menu, and provide better ambiance. I would recommend going to this place if you are in the area.
Food could be better...server was nice
This was our third visit to Kolkata Club and if there’s one thing I have to say, the food never disappoints. On this visit we had to wait longer than we usually do at a restaurant, but we waited because it is worth it. They were very accommodating about changing our reservation time and size. All the wait staff were friendly even when our little one was getting restless. A great birthday dinner overall for my husband and mother in law.
Fabulous! Scrumptious food, wonderful service, beautiful ambiance!
Appetizers and starters are AWESOME! Signature items are to die for. However the Biryani isn’t as per the description. Would not recommend it. Everything else is super good. Especially the appetizers
My first visit was June 2018 and was fabulous in service and food. I returned three weeks later to terrible service and mediocre food. I decided to try a third time in order to settle the discrepancy in my first two visits.
I am certain management must have changed because even menu items were inaccurate. The aura and concept from my first visit was completely gone. The original owner had a fusion eclectic concept in mind which was not maintained by new owners. It's now just a regular mediocre indian cuisine restaurant.
Nice place. Lighting a bit too dark. That’s the only negative we felt
We did chef's tasting menu. but I think that was mistake. appetizers we tried jalebi Chaat and puchkaa. those are really good. but main course was regular nothing special. I thought Chef's tating menu will give us different dishes than regular dishes. but no they serve Daal, butter chicken and laal maas for main. in my opinion they should serve Kolkata specialties for Chef's tasting menu. not worth it for the money we paid for Chef's tasting menu.
I was impressed with the food and service - will come again ; I really liked goat dish- I will rate it as 4.5 out of 5
