A favorite of Julia Child - Pot au Feu Bistro is so much more than a restaurant... Established in 1972, our cozy Bistro is the oldest French Bistro in America. Pot au Feu Bistro kicked off the Providence Restaurant Renaissance being the first to offer something other than “steak, spaghetti and chow mien”.
Located in the Historic Downtown we are just minutes from all the hotels and convention center.

We were a party of 7 and were given a wonderful table in a nook where we could really hear each other and feel at home. We ordered different dishes so we could taste as many as possible. Everything was really delicious. What we didn't expect was the abundant size of each dish (we had to take some doggy bags home); we were very well taken care of. It almost felt like we were at home, albeit being served! The pates, the onion soup and the mushroom soup were particularly appreciated. We did not have dessert as we were going to a birthday party afterwards.

Always a favorite! We love the cozy feel, tucked away and hidden. The food is, of course, fantastic! And the service attentive and personal. I can't say enough nice things - what a treasure to have here in Providence!

This was our first visit since the pandemic closed everything down, and the restaurant has changed for the good. Before it was quite noisy and it was hard to have a conversation. As a counter-virus tactic, the owners created attractive glassed-in nooks around each table, and they act effectively to tamp down ambient noise. The food was very good, as it has always been, and the service, while on the slow side, was courteous and unobtrusive.

Classic french food in an intimate atmosphere. Long time owner is there to make you feel personally welcome. Food is excellent but menu while fairly extensive doesn’t change and there are no specials.

Love the way the restaurant looks & feels. Old school ambiance & super friendly host. We had a nice conversation with him. I think I just ordered the wrong thing (I don't eat meat...) b/c I thought the food was just ok. We shared the trio of pate (pretty good) & I ordered the vegan pot au feu. It was lots of veggies in a broth. The veggies were cooked to perfection, but it was just lacking a bit. I guess I also thought it would be more stew-like & it was literally broth & veggies. We had the creme brûlée for dessert & it was very good. Not sure if it's the best I've ever had, but it was delicious. The salad that comes with all entrees was decent. Nothing special. Literally just lettuce & salad dressing, unless you opt for the blue cheese for $1.00. I would go back & try something else. I don't feel like it's a very kid-friendly place, but great for a fun & intimate dinner.

We had a wonderful Valentine’s meal at this incredible restaurant. The owner is so personable; he greeted us as we entered and shared some of the history of the restaurant and area. The staff provided meaningful recommendations that were spot-on with our tastes, and the service was excellent. The food was spectacular (huge shout-out to the chef for putting together such delectable dishes), and the drinks were great as well. Fine dining quality at a reasonable price, with a comfy atmosphere. I highly recommend Pot au Feu!

We saw this restaurant on TV Maitre'd which reminded me that my mother took a cooking class here and served the meal to friends. It was a huge success! My husband and I have never been to Pot au Feu so we decided to investigate. The owner, Bob Burke greeted and seated us. He engaged in a wonderful conversation with us which included my mom taking her class. They still do the classes! I may try that! He is so personable and checked in on us throughout the meal. The person taking care of us was an attentive young lady and extremely knowledgeable regarding wine selection to pair with our meals. Bread and water sent out straight away, warm bread so nice with melted butter, flaky crust. We had escargot, so tender and flavorful. I had Duck and my husband had the Boeuf Bourguignon. both dishes arrived hot and were so tasty, not one morsel was left on the plate! We had espresso martinis for dessert and a crepe suzette... The dessert not as tasty as the meal but still nice. We highly recommend this restaurant; we cannot say enough good things. Its cozy and the noise level were not bad. The staff and owner are so attentive that you feel like royalty. Please if you can, get to this place! There is parking close by was only $10. PERFECT EVENING! THANK YOU BOB!

Got crepes with what I can only describe as dog food quality beef inside. Luckily the Diane sauce covered the beyond well done under seasoned flavor of the beef. Girlfriend is from Quebec, got poutine that had no cheese curds, straw fries, masked with foie gras. $200 later I’m kicking myself that I tried French Food in a state known for its Italian. Never again.

We love to go out to eat, especially in Providence, where there are great restaurants. My opinion is Pot au Feu is the best place we go. The food is truly extraordinary and truly French. The service is excellent and Bob (the owner) is such a great guy and always makes us feel welcome. All the dishes are great but, for me, the Crepes are to die for as is our favorite appetizer, Trois Petite Pates (3 different t pates - mushroom, bluefish, liver).

Menu did not reflect the food delivered. After spending much time in France over the years, I can comfortably say that the presentation and quality did not justify the prices. For example table bread was not a baguette or similar level and the wine portion appeared to be skimpy. Will be staying with French restaurants in the boston area instead without question

Table was already set up for my wife’s birthday dinner. Ordered drinks and apps, they forgot my drink and had to ask them again after the appetizers came out. Ordered a bottle of wine with dinner, but they brought the wrong one. Dinner was ok, I got the special crepes, the beef inside was dry. My wife and her friend had the duck, which was underwhelming, the skin was soggy and unevenly cooked some of the meat was dry. After reading reviews for here I was excited to treat my wife and friends to an amazing meal but we were again underwhelmed with the food.
