American Bounty at The Culinary Institute of America
Overall great experience. Service was above most restaurants. Remember - food is prepared and cooked by students. Rice was a little undercooked and fish was a bit over cooked. Flavors were very good though. Server was great and ambiance wonderful. I have been to the CIA a number of times and will return. Good value and nice to support the students and the school.
American Bounty was amazing!! The food, the service everything was top notch including their crafted beer and summer sangria.
Most of the food we ate was excellent. A lamb barbacoa was great. Charcuterie was terrific. A green tomato soup with lobster tasted a bit flat. It needed another flavor layer. The wine was excellent as was the service.
My girlfriend and I had an outstanding lunch at the American Bounty restaurant. The service was impeccable, the meal started with rolls that melted in your mouth. I had an unusual and delicious dandelion salad with strawberries, my appetizer was yummy - mushroom ravioli with sweet peas and other flavors. Every morsel of food exploded with flavor. I snapped a photo of my cod entree because it was a work of art. We will return next year to try the Italian Restaurant. Allow 20-30 minutes to browse through the bookstore/gift shop. There are unusual items that might appear to you!!
Wonderful presentation. Lamb was prepared perfectly. Students are taught not only the art of presentation and attention to detail but are polite, courteous and professional. Bread was also delicious.
The students certainly cooked up a fabulous meal for us! The rainbow trout was the biggest and tastiest I have ever had! The wine pairing was perfect with their local Chardonnay. It was our first visit to the CIA - on my bucket list and couldn't have been happier! You have to walk around and check out the church area and see the sunset in the back - kudos to all the student chefs!!!!
Our experience was wonderful from start to finish - the ease of making a reservation, too! Our family of four was there to cap off a week of culinary camp for my 12-year old niece and once the students learned of this, they made the evening even more special by asking her as many questions as we did them! They even allowed us to go into the kitchen, where the Chef also chatted with her asking about her passion for food. The entire campus visit and experience showed her a possible future path - and judging by the expression she had while eating her starter, main, and dessert - it's clear she was inspired! The delicious meals (duck, chicken, trout) were five star delights on a great memory-making weekend. Thank you!
We had good service throughout the meal. The house made barrel aged stout was fantastic. Was rich without being as heavy as most stouts, and gave great fruit/cherry notes that paired beautifully with the duck entree. We started with braised pork belly for an appetizer. It had good flavor but was stringy and hard to cut. The cream based sauce on the plate gave a strange coating to the mouth. We ordered their steak entree and the steak and root vegetables had very good flavor. Unfortunately some of the root vegetables had not been cleaned and there was some dirt. The potatoes on both the steak and duck entrees were very bland. The duck did not get rendered through and was chewy. Overall is was a solid experience, but expected more when considering the price point.
Traveling to the area on vacation
Food was fresh and freshly-prepared. Service was less than attentive, wine prices moderately-expensive.
Great job! Delicious bread~Can't wait to go back for another good meal.
My cousin and I visited here during our trip to the FDR library. We were SO satisfied! The serving staff was wonderful and made our visit fun. Our main server even took our picture! The food was INCREDIBLE! I have never had "green tomato soup" before, but I'm willing to bet that if I do it will not be able to compete with what I had here! SUPER DELISH! My cousin had the duck and I had the chicken breast. OMG! YUMMY! We each ordered dessert - panna cotta for her and chocolate ganache ribbon for me. Another OMG! We loved our dinner and will definitely be sharing our experience with others. We made a reservation here based on a recommendation from a friend of mine. We will definitely be recommending and passing on the good word!
This time the food was not impressive, however the deserts were!!
Everything was great. Drink prices were a little expensive.
Ate at three of the CIA restaurants. All very good. The rolls at American Bounty were exceptional; we can’t remember ever having had better ones. One one recommendation: while the service was excellent, to could be a wee bit faster (at Bocuse and American Bounty)-just a wee bit.
Students were very eager to please-they were very gracious and happy to be engaged. Food was artistically and creatively delivered-- Small birthday offerings with dish expressing birthday wishes appreciated.
Servers were very friendly and courteous. Food was excellent. The room was very inviting, enjoyed
We took our 3 young adult grandchildren to the American Bounty and they loved the experience. The food was delicious, the service great and the ambiance so pleasant. The noise level, however, was a bit loud for our taste. A perk was being able to view the chefs preparing some of the intricate desserts.
Absolutely - although not necessarily affordable for frequent visits, it is a really great "occasional" experience.
Creative recipes, very fresh ingredients, and very nice service by the Instituye’d students.
Keeping in mind that this place is employed by students, it was still less than what I would expect from a pricey meal at the Culinary. Portions, while tasty, were tiny. My main course was a trout with summer vegetables. I couldn't see a single vegetable on the plate, but when I lifted the fish up, there were a few peas under it, but I certainly wouldn't consider it even a 1/2 serving of vegetables. The service was classy, but our waiter dropped the ball after bringing dessert menus over. He disappeared for over 20 minutes. We ordered coffee and dessert and he then forgot the coffee. Dinner for 2 was $165. I would expect a lot more for that kind of money. Nice experience, but I won't be going back.
We had a wonderful time. We will be returning to the CIA to try the other restaurants!
While everything was outstanding, the pastry chef and staff outdid themselves with the delicious chocolate espresso cake and mandarin orange sherbet.
Everything was beyond my wildest expectations and I have been there several times before. This was the best. The food and cocktails were WICKED and AMAZING. I will think about this for months.
The food was good and there were a lot of choices. The restaurant is pretty. Severs should be instructed not to clear while guests are still chewing their last bite, and not to offer to bring the check the moment the table is cleared. Additionally we said we were not ready for the check, but it was delivered to the table anyway. Not refilling the coffee even once is very unappealing.
Our grandson chose American Bounty for his birthday lunch this year and we were so pleased he did. The food and service were perfect. We will definitely be back.
This was our first experience at CIA. Our server was excellent. He graciously answered all of our questions. Our meals were delicious.
Food was great, service was very good. Would have made this 5 stars except for a leaking ceiling which caused us to move our table.
all food was prepared well and presented well with one exception...the chicken entre left a lot to be desired...composed of a sliver of a chicken breast and something resembling a portion of a wing.
Throughly enjoyed our meal. A great introduction to fine cuisine, however portions were s but small for a teenage boy. Required a stop at apple pie bakery to fill him up!
Understand that this is a school teaching all aspects of the restaurant business. The students rotate stations and positions in order to learn the entire business. That said, there were a few things that could be improved. The CIA website for American Bounty post the menus. They list lunch, dinner, and the Tavern menus. I assumed the tavern menu is the same as a bar menu at a restaurant. We were ordering items from the Lunch menu, but wanted some appetizers from the tavern menu. Well... unless you are sitting in the tavern section you cannot get anything from the tavern. We had two girls 6 and 8 yrs and they wanted mac and cheese from the tavern menu. Online it should indicate the tavern items are not available to Bounty section. After speaking with the instructor we were informed there is a child's menu. We were able to adjust :) . Next was the wine menu. It appears to be difficult to find the wine selection for me and the staff on their tablet, lol. The girls wanted the pretzel appetizer from the tavern, but no go. However, they made up for it when I requested bread like the other tables had while we ate our appetizers 30mins plus. The bread was parker house rolls were like pretzels. It was outstanding and the girls loved them. Our wine arrived after other drinks and apps. The food and deserts were awesome. They comped the deserts, which was very nice. I only wrote this review as a learning opportunity to the students. We've been there in the past and love it. I enjoyed our lunch and experience. It is and always has been exceptional. Again, remember it is a teaching institution. Loved it.
Outstanding in every way - worth a detour
Food was not as good as it usually is and service was very uneven as I know it can be. Server was very attentive and tried her best.
After initial confusion over who would be our wait server (we waited 20 minutes for someone to come to our table and to have our drink order taken), the remainder of the evening was wonderful. Our wait server was attentive, the food was incredible and the atmosphere was perfect. An absolutely fantastic way for my husband and I to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
We had a fantastic lunch. Food was delicious! We loved the experience. And the happy birthday writing on the dessert was a lovely surprise.
This was a birthday treat for myself, and everything about it was perfect: the food, the fact that it was not noisey, the service--our waiter Luis made the experience a joy. Noting the fundraising in the name of the chef on his birthday, I mentioned that it was my birthday also. My dessert plate came adorned with Happy Birthday written in chocolate perfect cursive over the top of the plate. This is one of the best birthday celebrations I have ever had, and it was #77.
This is our "Special Occasion" place. It's pricey but it is truly a dining experience. The food choices are so varied and each dish is beautifully presented. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The grounds are beautiful and there is a lovely view from every table we have ever been seated. I love that the 20% added to the check goes to scholarships and programs
We had a great time, the food was delicious. Service was a little slow, but we enjoyed the experience!
The food and service were spectacular. Richard our server was friendly and offered advice on the menu selections. Everything was delicious. We would go back in a heartbeat.
