Our bar area is the perfect space for a happy hour with extensive cocktail and tequila menus.
The decor and ambiance makes MXDC the perfect destination for a romantic evening, a family dinner or to host your next private or corporate event.
Created by Todd English, MXDC's menu includes small plates, entrees, and family-style dishes. The menu offers traditional foods from various regions throughout Mexico. Taco options include Pork Belly; beer-battered Mahi Mahi; and Carne Asada. Other favorites include the Seven-Chile Lamb Shank, Tortilla Soup and our open-faced quesadillas.
My 2 girlfriends and I came for restaurant week and I wish we had gone somewhere else. I will start with the positives..... ambience and drinks. The restaurant is very nice and the drinks were very well made. As for the food.... nasty. We ordered from the restaurant week menu and everything came out looking and tasting as if they made a bulk of menu items and then warmed them up as they were ordered. Nothing was seasoned everything was bland. I was highly disappointed. The only good item on the menu was the churros.
The food was fantastic
Everyone was so gracious to us.
The food presentation was great
Service was a bit slow at the beginning...there only seem to be one server.(??)The food and drinks were great. Would come back.
The food at MXDC leaves little to note. Absence of flavor seems to be the key criticism of our meal. Mexican food is usually favorable, but MXDC seems to have chosen to forget to add seasonings to their offerings. Service was fine, as is the ambience. Completely forgettable otherwise.
Nice. Helpful waitstaff.
Overall, food was good. Steak excellent but rockfish ceviche was swimming in soy sauce. Couldn't even taste the fish. The restaurant web-site needs updating for events as well as menu items.
Excellent service however food was nothing to write home about.
The food was delicious! I will definitely be going back. I recommend the carne asada or chicken tacos. The shrimp and fish tacos weren't as good. The guacamole was delicious. My friend had the salmon dish and loved it. I felt the tables were a tad too close together. The noise level during a weekday lunch was pretty loud so I wouldn't recommend this place for a business meal. But it's perfect for a meal with friends or colleagues.
My lunch partner and I both work in downtown DC and in walking distance of MXDC. We get together for lunch on Friday’s and we have dined at MXDC on several occasions. The service this visit was not as good as it has been during past visits. We were served after three tables that arrived after us. Also there seemed to be confusion as to who was taking care of us which caused a mixup in requested items. However, the food was great and the overall experience was not bad. We will return again for one of our lunch outings.
Always a great visit. The Paella here is best in nation.
Great food and great service! We were there during happy hour and it was a bit loud, but aside from that it was great!
This was okay. It could have been so much better. The food is way overpriced for the amount they give you. Service was okay. Noise level was very high. This wasn’t a place for me.
Great service and food!!! Had a great time last time I was here so we brought our friends this time. Didn’t disappoint and everyone had a great time!
Some of the best and fastest service
Great all around. So glad we went
Great location, great food but the lighting was too low and kept getting lowered. Server was nice and attentive for most of our time there, but clearly forgot about us at one point.
Rather disinterested server who commented several times about us not ordering a second round of drinks. Food was good but not outstanding. Would go back but not at the top of my list.
Very nice and cute decor. The food was very tasty and the margaritas are amazing!!!
We made a last minute reservation and glad we did!!! Great food and drinks, Will come back soon!
We were seated pretty quickly since we had reservations. The service was a bit slow at times (we waited quite a while between our appetizers and meal). Our second round of drinks took awhile and when we got our soups, they forgot to provide us with spoons so we had to wait again. Food was good and ambiance was lively and a bit noisy but it was also a busy Saturday night.
Food doesn't taste authentic. Very small tacos. Sweet, instead of spicy salsas.
Great food and service. A little bit noisy but they were super busy. Would come back!!
We came here after the watching the festival at the national mall. Very close walk and we were seated quickly. They were very busy and the noise levels can be a bit loud, but we had a great time. Our server was great and attentive. Will come back!!
I arrived on time and I as seated promptly. However, after 10 minutes at the table (without as much as a ‘hello,’ I left. It was very loud. Everyone else’s food looked great. But the (lack of) service was atrocious.
Although the food and service were good it was so noisy we couldn’t speak to each other and the noise was uncomfortable.
MXDC was resoundingly mediocre. Nothing was "bad," apart from the service. I did feel bad for the waitress because I think they were understaffed. However, we waited a long time for our food and drinks and in between those items too, empty glasses are no good at an expensive restaurant. Speaking of food, it was decent, but it is fairly pricey for Mexican food. Nothing was outstanding. I doubt we will go back.
Lackluster and routinel
The food was not as flavorful as we remember. We used to love the paella at MXDC but our order from this last visit lacked the flavor to which we had grown accustomed.
We had a Travelzoo special-offer dinner voucher and the first 10 minutes of our being there was spent by the waiter running back-and-forth between us and management to figure out how and what applies to the voucher.
Clearly no one was aware of the voucher promotion and was rather awkward, to say the least, trying to “sit through the process of figuring out” the details while other diners were in proximity.
I trust one understands the feeling of “being on the spot” or “out of place” of sorts.
Perhaps this is why we tend to stick to Old Town Alwxandria or vicinity when dining out: some DC establishments take it for granted that patrons choose their establishment for other reasons than provide opportunity for severs to make as much tips as possible.
Friendly suggestion: a restaurant is not in the business of selling food! Grocery stores do that. In my opinion, a restaurant is in the business of hospitality. Creating memories and experiences unique to its locations, cuisine, and welcoming atmosphere.
The food was very good, service outstanding. I started with the guacamole-- and since I am allergic to shellfish has soft tacos with it-- a very nice change. Followed with carne asada tacos and another house margarita. Overall, a very good meal with attentive service which wasn't over bearing. I was by myself and my only suggestion would be not to put a single diner next to a VERY LOUD table of 6-- when there are other tables available
Always a nice experience at MXDC. I recommend in particular the guacamole and the mixed tacos.
Seemed overpriced for the quality. Server seemed stretched thin. We went for lunch, and wouldn’t go back for that. Dinner menu looked pretty good.
Fidel and the rest of the staff were very helpful. The food was outstanding. By far the best Mexican food I have ever eaten xx
Seafood salad was excellent. The lamb meatballs were flavorless. Guava rita was the best. Atmosphere is outstanding. The Host went out of his way to accommodate. Service was good but sparse at times. Amazing view.
Always good! A little loud. Good service. Will definitely be back!
Very good Mexican food, excellent service with a convenient location
Overall it was ok. Over priced Mexican food is like an icy moron.
We had multiple different tacos that were tasty. The shrimp ceviche was done perfectly. House margarita is worth the $$. We went on a Monday at 8:30 and it was quite noisy. Large groups and since it was only two of us we got a crummy table against a wall. Service was mediocre but probably dealing with the large tables.
The staff and food are amazing. Our server was friendly, always took care of us and knew the menu and helped us with drink choices. An amazing experience while on a weekend getaway to DC. Highly recommended!
For a high end Mexican restaurant it falls far short of being great! The food is just average, nothing stands out. Portions are small but adequate. It is pricy, four people came to over $200, including a pitcher of house margaritas. The place is so noisy table conversation is difficult.
