Taking inspiration from the Viceroy’s house of New Delhi, the restaurant will be a glamorous Indian dining room with rainforest emperador marbles, dark timber paneling, gilded walls, and Lutyens inspired furnishings. The space will reflect the vibrant colours and intricate patterns of rare Jamavar shawls, offset with brass accents, hand-cut marquetry, and a sculpted bar that will celebrate the great textile traditions of India.
What Insiders Are Saying
Jamavar is an upmarket Indian restaurant in Mayfair with excellent food and a surprisingly relaxed atmosphere.
Our host made us feel very welcome and was very knowledgeable and kind with explaining everything!
Friendly staff - delicious butter chicken
The best Indian Restaurant I have visited in London to date....Authentic Indian Food and the warm Indian Hospitality as I would taste and experience in India added with a touch of class in the diversity of the menus and elegant yet homely ambience...... Definitely recommend going again and again....
Great service and food
I booked a table 2 for my partners birthday, greeted warmly, our waiter was excellent and very knowledgable in regards to the origins of the dishes/spices.
We ordered the succulent butter chicken and the lamb shank, which was under-seasoned (not a big deal)
Mock-tails were good, so was the ambience and the surprise birthday dessert our waiter served my partner.
Lovely ambience, attentive staff and well presented food.
Fantastic food really well paired with the wine. Good atmosphere and friendly service
Another fantastic meal and evening at Jamavar.
Both the food and service were first class.
Excellent meal as always and staff are so lovely and attentive. Best Indian restaurant!!!
We were there at time. We could be seated about 20 min later. That’s ok but as they don’t have a proper bar area to wait, waiting experience was annoying.
Service was quite low. Quality and taste are good. The wines served with wine pairing and below average wines. Ended up below expectations.
We came with high expectations but found it pretty average. I love Indian food and know it well. We were a party of 10 so tried a large selection of food. The pheasant could have been any bird and was overcooked, the lobster dishes were both rather bland, the potato starter was unimaginative and pretty tasteless, basically boiled potatoes with some cumin sprinkled on them. Most of the dishes were pleasant rather than excellent. The lamb biryani was probably the best dish and the prawn malabar was tasty EXCEPT the waiter recommended it as a mild dish for a 12 year old and it was the spiciest starter we had! Which brings me to the service - disinterested and charmless. We had no good guidance on what to order in terms of spiciness for the two children and quantities for the rest of us. Sorry but I can't recommend it
Fabulous food with a bite!! Just what we wanted
Excellent food with a very nice ambiance. Wait staff very knowledgeable and helpful. Portions somewhat small.
This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. We were visiting from the U.S. and the restaurant was recommended by a fine dining chef friend in New Orleans. The food was outstanding - creative, tasty, and filling. The cocktails were equally superb and inventive.
Food recommendation: Malabar Prawns, Duck Nihari, Gobhi Mutter, the naan (of course).
Cocktails: Sholay and Peshwa
Good food and nice ambience. A bit loud and the staff was a bit tiresome, even with good intentions in mind the staff came to the table alot.
Service was excelllent, staff were very attentive.
Starters are the best 👍
Absolutely amazing food, exceptional service and wonderful environment. 5 stars!! I will be back!!
Excellent, we have been there several time, never disappointed
Food was amazing and delicious. The best I liked was the cocktail. A special thanks to everyone who made our day happy.
Excellent service and food. Really loved it!
Will come back definitely
The restaurant, ambiance and decor was first class and I enjoyed all my dishes.
My only criticisms were that the staff were overly eager in taking our order. I understand that they need to turn over the tables in a two hour window but some patience in allowing you a few minutes to check the menu would have been appreciated.
Also, the lamb was quite tough. We ordered the lamb chops and the lamb biriyani. These dishes are not cheap so this was slight disappointing but the rice for the biriyani, starters and desserts were faultless.
The food was delicious. The ambiance great. The manager not so great. Hurried us along at the end of the meal, even thoughts knew it was my friend’s 50th
The personal was extremely nice and the athmosphere very cosy. I have allergies that I mentioned in my Open Table reservation and everyone was aware of them. They pointed out the dishes that I should not eat. Never had it like this before.
The appetizers - we shared three - were all very good.
My husband ordered rabbit for main course and they brought venison, which he accepted since he likes venison very much but they offered immidiately to change it for the rabbit. My dish was recommended by the waiter but I did not like it very much. They took it off the bill which we did neither ask for or expected. Nice touch!!
We had a 8:30pm reservation which was good because the noise level when we arrived was almost unbearable and got less when guests started leaving.
We will definitely come back on our next trip to London.
This was my second visit to Jamavar, so I had high expectations. Unfortunately it didn't quite live up to my memories, not so much because of the food, which was just as good as before, but the service was lacking this time. Standard, platitude phrases were uttered as if by rote, rather than with any real feeling behind them and staff certainly didn't go out of their way to accommodate my requests.
Good restaurant with varied custom food and a nice wine list
Excellent service. Staff very attentive. Great food and some outstanding dishes.
Would recommend the black lentil dahl and lamb shank curry.
Fantastic restaurant, and amazing staff. Can't believe it had lost its Michelin star, but I'm sure it will get it back in no time at all.
We repeatedly keep coming to this place. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit on a Saturday evening. Well decorated and a perfect ambience to enjoy a nice meal. Good vegetarian selection.
The food was good and tasty. Staff were friendly and the service was on time. Good central location as well.
One thing which the restaurant staff highlighted to me is that the place does not allow babies after 8pm! This is something which was not known to me and the opentable reservation system does not provide this info either. Although the staff made place for my reservation with a baby but this is something opentable team should incorporate in their systems.
Food was okay. Seating was tight and all the tables are very close together. Good atmosphere and service was standard.
For an upscale Indian restaurant incredibly disappointing and not in the same league as rivals. Masala for aubergine pickling was watery as was prawn starter. Soft shell crabs good but Rasjanstani lamb although well spiced again has a disappointingly thin masala. Menu looked good but failed to deliver: tasting menu horribly overpriced. Service at table was very good.
We booked Jamavar when it still held the Michelin Star . We have tried many Michelin restaurants but not an Indian one so being on a trip to London for our anniversary we thought we would give this restaurant a go. To enable us to try a wide variety of the food on offer we opted for the tasting menu . The food was fantastic and much more of an experience than a standard Indian meal . The stone bass dish was one of the best I have ever had. All the food was very well flavored and the heat of the dishes would be fine for the high majority of diners. We also chose the wine flight to accompany the dishes which was a good move as they all complemented the food well and the measures given were very generous. The service from our waiter was excellent and he was very friendly and we had a good laugh and joke with him which was nice. I am surprised the star was lost as we found the restaurant to be excellent and would certainly go back there and recommend to friends when visiting London.
Absolutely phenomenal food. Every dish was perfection. Beautiful restaurant- ask for a table upstairs if available .
Staff ..food.. atmosphere.. cleanliness..SUPER
Wonderful Indian food in Mayfair. We enjoyed a great evening. My only reservation is that the tables are close together.
excellent quality indian food with special mention for the sea bass tikka
my guest thought it was best Indian he had in many years
particularly good value fixed price lunch /early supper
Excellent! Only reservation the Malabar prawns were good but I thought the prawns were a little sub par. Everything else wonderful and I loved the spiciness.
Great lunch! Would have given 5 stars for service but they forgot to bring extra bread when asked. Friendly but unobtrusive staff. Very nice dining room
Great for meat eaters, but veggie options could be improved. Disappointed in the masala chai but the cocktails were great
