Very tight squeeze into our corner table but food and service were fantastic and we had a great time celebrating our anniversary
Originally put on a table squeezed into a corner with no room to move but once this was changed we had a great experience
The miso mackerel and smoked eel staters were excellent. Great balance of flavours and textures
My friend had the fish and chips which was great. The freshness of the cod really helps. I had the skate with caper butter which was perfectly cooked
We didn’t have pudding but the coffee was strong and had a good crema
It is expensive but you get what you pay for
Fine fish. Uncomfortable tables. Far too close together, thus providing no privacy. The service could not be faulted, and whilst the prices are astronomical, I would certainly revisit when I feel I must have my fix of fresh fish.
Thoroughly enjoyable lunch, and the best fish pie I've ever had - we shall return!
The oysters for starters were very meaty and for mains we had wonderfully cooked dover sole and lemon sole. Deserts were also lovely and one was adjusted to wish happy birthday. Nice touch! The staff were friendly and we will definitely be back.
Amazing. We loved it. Very memorable.
Never a let down, the only caveat is that one shouldn't sit in the middle room where they bus all the tables of the restaurant. The lighting in there is bad, there are maybe 5 tables squished together and it doesn't have the same ambiance or feel of the main dining room or first room you come into. Sit in the back room to the right as you walk in or at the Bar in the Atlantic bar failing that. Always fun and always reliably good seafood menu!
Been going to J Sheekey for many years and the high standards are maintained. Only quibble is absence of traditional English desserts on what is a British menu.
Food is good, well prepared. But very over priced!
One of the great restaurants of London. Fondness for fish a prerequisite. The fish mixed grill is superb.
The best fish and seafood restaurant in London
A number of small, well decorated, rooms alllow conversation
Dover sole was delicious. Not sure why you need Bernaise sauce on the side. Memorable delightful restaurant
Good experience. Busy and lively. Good service and quality food.
Excellent meal. Great fresh fish
Excellent food but the wine list is so expensive. My skate was a very generous portion and well cooked
While a touch pricey, it is well worth it, food is 100 pc reliable, proper waiter service, lovely ambience, a real treat.
Average overpriced food. After we finished our dinner the Maitre d’ asked us if we could have coffee in the bar since he had promised the table to another party! That’s a new low in service!
I took my partener to sheekys for lunch on her birthday. The food and service was second to none. Great value for money. We will be going back.
I am a fan of Sheekey's, but this was an off-night. A pre-theatre booking was noted on arrival (once the reception staff deigned to notice us), but it didn't prevent a last-minute rush to settle up and leave an hour and a half later. Service ok but unengaged. Gravadlax starter was good; crab bisque tasted over-diluted and was tepid. A shared fish platter saw salmon and tuna well-cooked, but bream and sea bass overdone. No desserts, and mint tea/coffee to finish, two glasses of house champagne at the outset and a bottle of New Zealand chardonnay (not cool enough) produced a bill of £230. The eyes watered a little, not least when noting that a restaurant of this distinction and ambition has the audacity to levy a cover charge of £2 a head. Teacher's note: could do considerably better - and has done in the past. PerM
Food and service amazing! It was my husband's 70th and we were treated like royalty! A discreet birthday plate made it extra spy. Thank you Sheekeys for another wonderful dining experience.
Disappointing all around... We really wanted to like this restaurant but it just didn't hit the mark.
The most obvious thing about this place was the fact that it's a tourist heavy restaurant. I get that it has the history and write ups on the travel sites but I feel the service and the restaurant goes a bit downhill once it becomes "diluted". The service was just average at best and no personality at all, there was no interaction and just food being served. The food was not bad, obviously the seafood is good but I certainly wasn't blown away by it. The value was certainly not good compared to what you get for your money. The cooked food is very average which I would stay away from altogether. We tried to order a nice bottle of champagne but basically half the bottles on the list weren't available... I definitely wouldn't go back for the food or the service.
This restaurant has been our favorite for years. Today they had my favorite fishdish, skate. My daughter who had never tried skate loved the fish too.
A great dining experience. Superior food with an extensive wine list--something for everyone. Impeccable service, very attentive but never over bearing. On my return to London we shall make a point of visiting again.
Loved the dinner. Perfect for after theatre dinner.
Beautiful fish, perfectly cooked.
The food is sublime - every dining experience at J Sheekey is such a gastro pleasure.
I so wish some diners could muster the manners to turn off / silence their mobiles and either leave the dining room or moderate their volume during calls
That said - the restaurant is all about the food drink and service and they excel
We have been going to J Sheekey for nearly 40 years and I proposed to my wife here 36 years ago this month.
It's now bigger than it was with the addition of the (excellent) Atlantic Bar. The layout is different in parts as a consequence. It is also now owned by Richard Caring as part of his larger restaurant group.
However, the lovely thing is that the ambience is still wonderful and service superb and it retains its quiet glamour and air of effortless luxury. The food still follows the original style and typical range with a few welcome updates. Fish is always well-cooked and fresh and shellfish (particularly oysters and razor clams) superb. Their Fish Pie remains a reliable standard, ditto potted shrimps which are nicely spicy. Welsh rarebit as a savoury to finish is still one of my favourites - beautifully old-fashioned and spicy.
A good wine list too and you don't have to spend a fortune (but you can if you like!). Their Picpoul de Pinet is a good choice with most white fish and shellfish
We come here for the same reason that we go back time and again to the Colombe d'Or in St Paul de Vence: it's not achingly hip or perfect modern cooking but it is good, reliable, luxurious with great service and is simply itself - a constant and comforting rock in a world of change.
Our Italian (and there have always been a lot of excellent Italian waiters) waiter was superb and at the age of only 36 - born in the year I proposed which amused him (!) - he had skills and customer service that most restaurants would kill for.
You will also see the occasional celeb which is nice: we have seen loads over the years (Jonathan Miller, Piers Brosnan, Helen Shapiro amongst many others. Katherine Ryan who is appearing in Glitter Room at the nearby Garrick has been recently and so will many other performers at local theatres like the Wyndham (opposite). It's fun and glamorous.
We will of course keep coming just as long as it remains J Sheekey....
I have been going to Sheekeys for over thirty years and it never fails to satisfy...wonderful service and atmosphere...good food and great location..an institution...
Lovely food and atmosphere. The staff were attentive but not overbearing. Thoroughly recommend.
Excellent seafood, service was spot on,loved it.
Ambience, great professional and very friendly service, top quality food. We spent six days in London, and we had a pleasure dining at Sheekey for three nights
Very good start to finish
Cosy restaurant with a fantastic traditional British atmosphere. Excellent fish and seafood. Perfect location for a Friday night dinner.
This restaurant is an ideal location in the London Theater district. When booking they inquire which theater and make sure you are there on time. Great seafood, done to perfection. If not going to theater, it is great for a leisurely dinner. Staff are attentive and are checking each table without interrupting. Always enjoy the experience.
Excellent as always. Good food, good, efficient service.
Fabulous venue, full of character in the heart of London. Nice welcome and good table. Service was a little haphazard and chaotic- perhaps folks taking their eye off the ball. I wouldn’t normally expect to have to ask for top-ups of fizzy water!
The food was lovely and we had a great pretheatre supper.
Fabulous touch was to ask us which show we were seeing so they could tell us how long it would take to reach the theatre after supper. As it happens we were going to the nearest theatre 1 minute walk away!
Hit and miss..tasty starter of mackerel but it wasn't really hot just lukewarm...main course of sole...very tasty veg with it just ok...starter of squid very good..main course of mixed roasted shellfish very good...all wine very expensive.... seated next to the waiters service area...possibly in the worst area ....overall perhaps paying for location of restaurant. Pretty good not excellent
Really delicious meal in lovely surroundings with excellent service. Also gave us lovely chocolates as it was our 39th wedding anniversary which was a lovely touch. Highly recommend this restaurant. The fish pie was the best I have ever tasted!
We had a pre-theatre dinner and, when confirming the reservation, we were asked which theatre. They immediately told us the start time of the show and what time we would need to leave.
On the day the service was incredible and we had a very enjoyable meal. Great seafood and wine excellent. Only minor negative - no chocs or petit four with coffee.
We have already rebooked for our next theatre trip.
Fantastic seafood thanks
Also made the effort for my wife who onlt eats a vegan diet.
