Friday early dinner upstairs surrounded by elegance and history. Our first time dining on the second floor at RES, seated by our gracious hostess at a comfortable loveseat table for two looking out on the magnificent Trinity Repertory building. Early dining is our favorite time to eat out as there is generally no wait and there is often a little more time to converse with your server before the deluge of concertgoers arrive. Our waiter, John is particularly wonderful conversation, and impeccable service every time! Our usual Grey Goose Martinis were shaken to icy perfection, rocks side and blue cheese stuffed olives. Their mini baguette and butter bread service is the best! Specials sounded wonderful, but we already had menu items in mind tonight. We both ordered a grilled wedge salad with their amazing house Gorgonzola dressing. I forgot how big they were! We could have split one between us, but since we did not order an appetizer tonight it was perfect. My husband's Faroe Island Salmon was sublime, nestled on a bed of spinach and parsnip puree. My fresh Pappardelle with pulled chicken was also superb, with bacon, kale, chives and maybe a hint of tarragon in the rich creamy parmesan laced sauce. The portion was so generous I took half of it home. 2 more martinis, but no room for dessert tonight. Commis waiters, were excellent throughout and kept our waters filled and plates cleared without being intrusive.Timing of courses from the kitchen was perfect and allowed us time to enjoy our meal without feeling hurried. Very much looking forward to our next visit!

Cute restaurant, it’s always encouraging when a restaurant is busy on a week day. The food was excellent and was served in very large portions. Our waiter was funny. If I lived locally I would return here often.

We had lovely appetizers and then a fire alarm went off for almost 35 minutes with blaring sirens. Some patrons left. The staff were lovely, but there was no effort on the restaurant to apologize for the inconvenience. My father's ravioli was delicious, but the tuna bowl was underseasoned and dry. When pay for an expensive dinner- it would have been good customer service to offer a dessert, coffee, or glass of wine for the inconvenience.

Fire alarm went off for over 20 minutes. Res did nothing for customers. Food was just ok. Don’t recommend jumbo shirmp or Brussels salad. Shrimp were mini. Misadvertising calling them jumbo. Brussels salad only had 4 slivers of Brussels. Was expecting its through the whole salad. Drinks were great. Fried cheese and tuna tartare were excellent. Atmosphere pre-fire alarm was nice.

Our fourth time at this place, it was the first time we sat on the second floor and the ambience was way different than downstairs, the noise level was way too uncomfortable. Otherwise, it is still one of my favor restaurants in Providence.
