From the OpenTable editors: James Beard Award-winning chef Sean Sherman’s pioneering culinary movement enters an exciting new phase with Indígena by Owamni on the ground floor of the Guthrie Theater. Overlooking the Mississippi River, this expanded concept spotlights tapas-style shareable plates, game meats like elk and venison, and a seafood and oyster bar. Backed by a mission that supports Indigenous producers, the experience is rounded out by a thoughtful drinks menu celebrating BIPOC-produced beer, wine, and spirits.

The Sweet Potato Gnocchi was one of the most delightful bites of food I've had in forever. And the salad! It was special in a way that was unexpected. Yummmmmm

Venison and scallops were incredible. Loved the slight heat with the roast carrots. Popcorn with crickets was a miss - soggy crickets, soggy popcorn. Definitely going back - overall, a great food experience.

Everything was delicious. We ordered a lot of food for a full Experience. In order of favorites: Scallops with the blue corn bread was divine! (I need to make that!) , salmon, whitefish, corn, gnocchi, wild rice, green beans, sweet potatoes, sweet tamale for dessert… we had a large table for four, and we could all chat easily, not noisy, and just had a great time.

My mom and I traveled all the way from Chicago to Minneapolis just to celebrate my mom’s birthday at Owamni, and it exceeded every expectation! The restaurant space is gorgeous, with great music and a wonderful ambiance. From the host to the food runners and servers, the entire team was incredible. A huge shoutout to Morgan, she was truly the best server! Since it was our first time visiting, she gave us fantastic recommendations that made the meal unforgettable. I loved how thoughtful the entire menu concept is. We will definitely be making another trip back.

We ate here last night before seeing a show at the Guthrie Theater, and unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience. Our party of four left feeling let down by both the food and the service. I was especially excited to try the duck. Our server explained that some people eat it with their hands, which sounded fun — but unfortunately, there was nothing enjoyable about it. The duck was tough, dry, and virtually tasteless. Definitely not the dish I had been looking forward to. The rest of our group was equally unimpressed, and by the end of the meal, everyone agreed they wouldn’t be returning. Such a shame, because Sea Change had been such a wonderful restaurant in this space. Sadly, this experience didn’t come close. We really wanted to love it — but there simply wasn’t much to love. 😞

Owamni never disappoints! As usual, the sweet potatoes were fabulous. The preserved salmon was also outstanding. Marichou was very good too. We liked the duck, but found it very difficult to carve ourselves. Our dessert, a custard made from duck eggs, was fantastic.
