The Market salad and roasted chicken were delicious . The rice pudding tasted like plain rice with a bland sauce very disappointing. We had reservation for 5pm and arrive at 4:45 . The did not open the door to enter until 5:05 staff was polite and but cold about leaving use waiting out in the cold.

The food was good, but not worth the slow and sort of indifferent service. They tried, but they absolutely need more staff, especially before an event at Disney Hall! Convient for Disney Hall, though.

Food was excellent, especially the pancakes, amazing! Our waiter was nice and kind, just not around or available. We were seated at 12:00 PM and nobody came to say anything to us or offer us anything until 12:19 PM. I asked a bus person for some water in the interim. So, maybe they are understaffed or maybe they take a very European hands off approach. Again the food was stellar! But we probably will not return. We were going to a play at 2 PM at the Music Center, but if we didn't have lots of time it would have been a problem.

We booked a table at Astrid with high expectations. We were disappointed by our experience in every way possible. It was a Saturday night before an LAPhil performance, so it was NOT A SURPRISE that the restaurant would be booked to capacity from 5-7:30PM. Yet the restaurant appeared understaffed, the service (including the bar) was slow in every possible way, our server seemed blithely unaware, the chef refused to cook a steak well-done, my partner's martini didn't arrive until half-way through our meal. And the food was terrible - salty where it should have been fresh (a salad), under-salted where salt would have made the dish pop (brussels sprouts), small portions (the cod), odd, displeasing combinations of flavors (everything!). AND, our table for two was too large - we felt like we needed a megaphone to communicate, which made intimate dinner conversation difficult.....I'd give it zero stars if that were possible, which is too bad b/c it's right in Disney Hall. Someone needs to give this restaurant a service and kitchen makeover.

Our waitress was super nice but they were understaffed for a Saturday night. We didn’t get our drink order taken until almost 20 minutes after being seated. If we had not been to this place before likely would not go back. Shame because food is exceptional.

Maybe they will work out the opening kinks. Service was friendly and expert but very rushed and limited. Saturday night before Phil performance so very packed but wow, they must have been understaffed. The food was good but not at a level we expect for this space and this price point. No bread even for sale evidently.

All restaurants are going through challenging times and lack of server help is one of them. I love the food here but the service is hit/miss. And yesterday was really bad - we sat for a long time before we had to get up and flag down a waiter and eventually moved to the bar. We stayed only because we were short on time and couldn't go elsewhere. To diners: food is great, but give yourself plenty of time because service is not great. To restaurant: you really have to up your service game. This is no longer an "off night", bring someone in who knows how to do it.

Normally this place is really good with service. I have been to this restaurant numerous times and it has been great. This past week Thursday, it was extremely slow service, and the attention to detail was very poor. I will try it again thinking it was a fluke. The new check-in outside service is super slow. They should ask for those who have reservations first instead of trying to find a table for those who do not have reservations while keeping us all waiting in the cold. Maitake Mushrooms were great, the Brussels sprouts were awesome too! This particular evening it was so noisy it was hard to hear each other. Some of the tables are too long for two people, so ask for a small two person table.

This was my 3rd time at Asterid. The food is very delicious in my opinion and you can’t beat the convenience if you are headed to a concert at Disney Hall after. My non-alcoholic martini was the best mocktail if that is your thing. That said, the service seemed a bit off its usual game. We ordered the mushrooms which the server said would be brought out with our entrees. That never happened and the place was busy enough that no one stopped by to ask how things were until we were done eating. Perhaps the high noise level was a contributing factor. At any rate, we will definitely keeping going for the food (and maybe be more assertive next time if something is amiss).

Very limited choice of entrees (four), and not much variety. The lamb shank was mediocre at best. Cocktails were stingy, especially for the price, and the wine pours were quite shallow. An odd, eclectic, and eccentric wines-by-the-glass list, with red options from Baja, Morroco, Portugal, Italy, and South Africa but nary a one from California where, you know, we are. And only one white from Norte California. I applaud the inclusion of unusual wines, but would you get that kind of skewed emphasis in Italy? Looking at the list alone, you'd never guess you were in one of the world's great wine regions. Service was a little slow, but it's understandable given the venue where and when everybody arrives and leaves at more or less the same time. I doubt anyone goes there for dinner unless they have Disney Hall concert tickets. We might try the bar menu one day, though the seating is limited.

Disappointed in this trip to Asterid. I noted in my reservation that I had a severe shellfish and tree nut allergy. This info was not passed on to the server. I did tell her and ordered the Burrata without the hazelnut brittle. It came with it and when I pointed it out to the server, she acknowledged that it did have the brittle, she took it away and said she would bring a new one. Some form of apology would have been nice. It then took over 15 minutes to bring a new plate. No cooking involved. My husband had finished his appetizer by the time I got mine. Then we waited a long time for our main dishes. The tables immediately around us were seated after we were but finished their meal and paid their bills before we were done eating. No one ever came by and asked us how our meal was, or said good night when we left.

When we first tried Asterid for dinner, shortly after it debuted, we thought it was OK, but we were not motivated to return anytime soon. It was also very dark at our table (indoors). Ever since Levy Restaurants took over from Patina Group at WDCH, we've been at a bit of a loss as to where to eat pre-concert. The WDCH Cafe under Levy has disappointed us too often to warrant further return visits. We like San Laurel at the Conrad across the street, but would be nice to have a little more variety. Abernethy's is fine, depending on the chef in residence, but they are not open for brunch/lunch. Thus, when I saw that Asterid was open for Sunday brunch, we decided to try them again as a change from San Laurel. Overall, we were pleased with our meal and do recommend considering it if you are attending a Sunday matinee at WDCH. My wife ordered the Bahn Mi (hold the pickled daikon) and was quite happy with it. It came with a side salad with a subtle, delicate dressing. I had a bite of the sandwich and thought it was quite tasty. As someone who normally trims off all fat from my beef and pork, be aware that there is quite a bit of pork fat on the pork belly. So while a bite is OK for me, I wouldn't order a whole sandwich for myself. I ordered the Tuna Melt and enjoyed it very much. The bread was grilled to just the right degree of crispness. For dessert, my wife said the Strawberry Shortcake was not worthy of ordering again next time. I had the Corn Financier, while not exceptional, was very good and I would order it again.

Happy to have finally tasted chef Ray Garcia’s food after missing out on broken Spanish. Went to the Walt Disney Concert Hall right after so it was perfect. Thank you to the staff that immediately got a hold of me and told me I forgot my credit card. One guy actually ran it back to me in the concert hall.

Food is great, presentation is wonderful. Too noisy to make conversation, and the two person table is too long than wide. Branzino was cooked to perfection, and very fresh, though I think the salsa and smoked paprika sauce is too overpowering. The scallop appetizer and maitaki tempura were well received. We had been enjoying the dinner. However, a bit over priced.

Asterid offers a smart, inventive selection of dining, drinks and wine for pre-performance visitors at the venues on Grand Avenue. Each item we had, was delicious and well-prepared. Service was good and personable. This is not a budget destination. If time, convenience and quality are imperatives, Asterid is ideal.

My most recent visit to Asterid happened to be during Dine LA; we elected to participate. One of the things I love most about Asterid is sharing lots of different plates; their DineLA format left me longing for those past visits. The service is super nice, and I wish that one of these days they would surprise me by being excellent. Excellent service in this case would be to keep everyone's great and welcoming personality with a touch more attention at various points in the meal, like after everyone has been served and had a chance to take a bite following up with a check in. There were several moments during the evening when I felt like I was trying very hard to connect with any of the staff for their attention. It is a great space; we will be back.

Valet was absent when re rolled up at 7:15 so this out a bit of a pale on the arrival especially as the host had nothing to offer as an apology. Yet the food was excellent, server was a bit rushed and overwhelmed. We’ve been here in the past and always enjoyed the experience. Would also add that a few plates (mushrooms, corn cake dessert) were not large enough to share. Ray does know his food!

We started with two craft cocktails, the Smokey bourbon and tequila pineapple. Both original and very tasty! Then we had the chicken liver pate with the most beautiful buttery toast. The addition of stone fruit & pomegranate gave the pate an elevated sophisticated version of the classic dish. For entrees, which we shared, we had the prawns, chicken and beef short rib. The prawns were incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly. The chicken was seasoned very well and super moist with a delicate crispy skin. The beef was phenomenal, flavorful and cooked with love. The Santa Fe style beans served with the beef were out of this world. We took the servers advice and shared everything. Best way to sample many dishes at once. Elegant, well priced and delicious. Definite must try before a show at Walt Disney Concert Hall!!

We tried the Dine LA menu and ordered one of everything from the choices to share. I didn’t realize that the portions were considerably smaller then the regular menu. My son and I are not big eaters however the portions were very small and we found the dinner not substantial as a meal. After sharing the 3 courses we decided that the meal seemed more like appetizers. The Maitake mushrooms consisted of barely one dehydrated mushroom with a little smear on the plate. The Burrata was equally tiny. Chicken was all dark meat and kind of strange with the purple loose potatoe and kale. The Branzino was ok, but served cold. Finally, the desserts were very late and we had to leave for a show so barely got to eat them. The meal was expensive and disappointing.

There for a before Sunday Matinee meal. Service was efficient but gracious. Great menu choices. We had Bibimbat, Tuna Melt & Mushroom Hash. All excellent with just the right amount of heat. We decided to "sample" desserts, and they were most accommodating with extra plates and tableware. Selected Budino (fabulous chocolate), Rice Pudding (probably our favorite for uniqueness of flavors) and Corn Financier (cake was excellent but tended to overpower the subtlety of the corn ice cream). Will definitely make this a pre- or post concert stop again.

Best dinner yet after 6 visits. Chicken was outstanding. The dark, black and cold feeling interior is most unwelcoming, however. Whereas Patina had warm woods and inviting lighting, this places feels more like a dark basement and totally unimaginative. Best bet the high tops towards the front.
