Wonderful dining experience. I’ve never been disappointed at a Jose Andres restaurant. This was one of the best and we are lucky to have it in Los Angeles. We tried two salads. The beet salad was exceptional. Smoky and delicious. The vermicelli pasta is like nothing I’ve had before. Cheesy but not too much - and crunchy too. So good. The lamb chops perfectly cooked and the sauce and spices perfect! The Basque cheese cake - heaven! Can’t wait to go back. Excellent wine and the service outstanding.

The food at San Laurel is creatively fun and delicious. The portions are very small (probably what they really should be). The prices are very high. For the money, you get a beautiful environment, excellent service, an excellent wine list, and a FEEL GOOD ALL OVER experience. The inside of the restaurant was gorgeous! It was too cold and I don't think people were sitting outside. The Mac and Cheese was like no other I've ever had. It was made with small spaghetti-like noodles and had little eggs on top. I never asked what kind of eggs, but they were delicious! My friend loved the dinner and experience of fine dining as much as I did. We will be back in Springtime so we can experience the meals outdoors. I highly recommend San Laurel for everything from location, service, selection, quality, and taste of the dishes! Thank you, José Andrés.

We arrived in time at 7.00pm on a Saturday evening. We were told there would be a 35 min wait because the restaurant was overbooked. We were encouraged to go to the bar for debunks “if there are seats available.” Eventually, we were seated around 7.50, with the wait staff talking unprofessionally about the stress she and her colleagues had been suffering. The food was fine. Not an experience I’d want to repeat.

made a 6:15 pm reservation. got there at 6:10pm. didn't get a table until 7:15pm. had to eat very quickly to catch the 8pm LA Phil concert. their explanation was that there were too many people eating at the time of my reservation and they have to wait until people finish eating before they seat us. so lame! no apology from the manager nor a discount. probably the worst service i can think of.

The food was amazing. But, there was some issue with reservations and we were seated 1 hour after our reservation time. And we were only seated after I had to inquire about our table 3 times. I understand that things happen, but there was very little in the way of an apology or any attempt to make up for the wait.

While the food at San Laurel remains consistently good, service has varied considerably both in the restaurant and at the bar. There were long delays between courses, and despite repeated assurances by a very kind waiter, the kitchen was simply overwhelmed. A similar problem occurred at the bar. The menu is interesting, but could use some updating. There is disorganization in the management, although most do try to respond professionally. Oversight seems lacking.

Excellent breakfast to include the most delicious and lightest pancakes on the planet. My wife’s eggs Benedict were exceptional. And, we saw Jose Andres at a distance which made our late breakfast so very memorable.

My wife and I have eaten at this restaurant on several occasions and have enjoyed it each time. The service and food are quite good especially the shrimp dish and the fish dish. The cheesecake dessert is outstanding.

Brilliant in atmosphere, service, and overall rating of the restaurant. The Wagyu Flat Iron however was a slight disappointment, under par. The quality of the steak was proportional to the price. Presentation was sub-standard for this price, 'taste' was sub-standard (for the price). During my dinner, I looked over at a plate of 'duck' being served, as well as a 'salad'. Both were undoubtedly better presented than my steak, with more emphasis on the display of food. The steak I received in comparison was 'home made' If opportunity allows, I may visit this restaurant again, and would recommend to others.

I had two criteria, beyond fine dining for my wife's birthday, when I made the reservation. One was proximity to the theater we were ultimately headed to (check!) and the second was outdoor seating, which I specified on the reservation. So I was surprised when they sat us indoors. And when I inquired about our reservation for outdoor seating, I was told that a "bunch of people came ahead of us and asked to be seated outside." I would think that at some point the reservation book trumps the walk-in request. Anyway, that set the tone for a less than stellar experience.

Jose Andres does not disappoint. San Laurel's menu is full of unique, Spanish-influenced specialties. The Beefsteak Tomato Tartare is an unexpected, almost meaty, hearty indulgence, especially for being vegetarian. The Vermicelli Mac and Cheese with 9-month aged Spanish cheese is warm, creamy, full of flavor and filling. Be sure to order the cheesecake for dessert. We paired it all with Jose's own Jose Cuvee refreshing sparkling wine from Spain. But it wasn't just the food, the service was extraordinary. Our order was rather large, so they kindly positioned an unused table to the side to hold arriving dishes, when they could have jammed them all in front of us. We even overheard a server mentioning to another table that this is the best restaurant he's ever worked at. That's a promising sign.
