Translating as 'Have you had dinner?' in Italian, Hai Cenato serves up lunch and dinner seven days a week. Inspired by New York-Italian cuisine, the menu spans small plates, pasta & risotto, grills and sourdough pizzas.
Upstairs, cocktail bar The Drunken Oyster serves classic Italian cocktails with a twist and sparkling 'taptails'.
Sunday: 12:00 – 14:30 and 17:30 – 22:00
Friendly staff, good service. Group ordered 4 different pizzas- all over-promised on flavour for what arrived, in terms of toppings. Pizza base was tasty and portion size was good. Lemon tart for dessert had a tasty filling and sorbet but hard, tasteless pastry case.
We both thought the food was good especially the ham hock risotto. However the service was not very good and when we came to pay our bill we ask for the service charge to be removed which was challenged by the restaurant host that evening which I found most unusual.. we won’t be returning which is a shame as Jason Atherton is a favourite chef of mine but clearly has a lot of work to do to sort out his customer service at this restaurant.
The food is good and I like the atmosphere but it was unacceptable to be told three times that we only had 90 minutes for a lunch booking. I was meeting a friend I hadn’t seen for 2 years and we had a lot to catch up on. As we were being pressed for time, we skipped wine and dessert and we won’t come back. Restaurants need to understand that they are there for the patrons’ comfort as well as to turn a quick profit.
We used hai Cenato as it had a cocktail bar and italian food.... usually a good combination for a night out! It was also a Jason Atherton restaurant! However the cocktail bar is very cramped, and the bar service there very slow, as they are also servicing the restaurant , the starters were very good, but our main courses were poorly seasoned and rather tasteless and appeared to have been reheated. Very disappointing for a restaurant with such good provenance! All in all a poor evenings food on our special occasion trip to london!
This is a new restaurant in a large redevelopment scheme near Victoria station. We found the place extremely noisy and the staff amateur; the food was passable but expensive. Suffice we escaped as soon as we had finished our main course and took desert and coffee in a real restaurant
Booked a table pre "Hamilton" - good food and service. Not too noisy to talk!!
Booked pre-theatre which worked perfectly. Good food - especially the salami board starter, great value! - and friendly, attentive service.
I don't know how this restaurant made it into the top 10 pizzas in London! Cold and extremely average pizza. The pizza sauce was too way too salty and the service was beyond awful! The only thing good (and hot) was the potatoes. Save your money!
They cancelled our booking a couple of hours before our meal.
Very nice classy place great service and excellent food 👌👍
Our second visit to Hai Cenato (Both times pre theatre) & it's never disappointed. Great service, great atmosphere, best pizzas we've ever had. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Booked pre theatre dinner for 4 people but after being seated and wine opened we were told that the gas had turned off and they couldn’t cook anything hot. No time before theatre to go elsewhere so we ordered 4 uncooked starters and two rocket salads + extra bread. We were charged the full amount (£85.00) with a reduction of only £4.50 when we pointed out our overall disappointment with our experience. Not impressed!!!
Excellent Food, Excellent Service & Excellent Attention-to-Detail.
Thank you to all at Hai Cenato, for looking after us all (7 guests). & thank you for surprising the birthday girl with a complimentary Ice Cream.
We had a very enjoyable pizza at Hai Cenato, before heading to the theatre nearby for a show. It became quite busy while we were there, which provided a decent buzz. We were served quickly, but without feeling rushed, and the waitress seemed knowledgeable about the menu. The food was very nice, especially the broccoli side dish - wow! We both had a Pizza Bianca, which was also very good. We had mentioned it was my birthday and the waitress surprised me with a sparkler in ice cream, which was a nice touch, when I had not expected anything. I would definitely visit this restaurant again if in the Victoria area. I had not been out in that area for a number of years and was pleasantly surprised by all the new buildings and social options.
Had a nice meal with my husband before Hamilton. Burrata starter lacked texture/taste (too sloppy). Pizza, amazing base. Should have just had that. Probably had too high expectations of Jason Atherton (enjoyed Maze post GreatBritish menu success). But nice casual meal, great staff. For price would have preferred higher end cuisine.
Very Disappointing! Arrived at 5.30 so we could get to the theatre to collect tickets at 7pm. We were aware of time so ordered a simple starter to share & 2 pizzas. The starter & drink arrived promptly but thats where the service ended. 45 minutes after our starter was taken we were told our Pizzas would be 5 mins. 10 minutes later the table next to us that arrived 20 mins after us had their starters & mains. Our Pizzas (that only take minutes to cook) never arrived. We left in disgust without having dinner. Hai Cenato - Have you eaten, should be followed up with you probably won't eat here. If you've got Theatre tickets give this place a wide berth!
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were thoroughly spoilt. Five star food and five star service.
Great for a pre Hamilton meal
Good location. Not a great choice of food and food was far too spicy. Good service.
Good ambiance. Seated quickly but waited 15mims to order. Pizza tasted good but it was quite wet towards the middle which made it soggy. It was also quite salty to my taste.
Will go back for a second look.
The service was inattentive and slow. The place was very very noisy but lacking in any character. The food was lacking in taste and very basic. The wine list was poor. Having eaten at all the restaurants in the Social Group I had expected a higher quality even though this is downmarket by comparison . Very disappointing dining experience
The food was very good and servings generous. Pre theatre menu also very good value. I ordered a fish dish, which when it came I did not believe was fresh and was unable to eat it; my waiter asked me what I would like instead and took the plate away without hesitation. The manager also came to apologise. Would highly recommend the cod.
The pizzas are amazing and there are some great wines on the wine list!
Excellent Pizza, great venue, slightly slow service (but I suspect a one off). Walked away thinking about when to return
Overall an enjoyable experience which could have been improved with some extra waiter attention which actually will make the restaurant more revenue. We ordered drinks after starters (only 1 wine and a cocktail) and they arrived after we had finished our mains. 4 different servers brought food/drinks/took orders during our meal but there were only 2 of us. 2 of our servers didn't speak English. My strip steak ordered medium was well done. At nearly £30 I should have sent it back. The rest of the food we ordered was delicious and the venue is great. 2 starters, 2 mains and 4 cocktails +service charge was £150. Might go for the set menu next time.
Was sat outside for pre-theatre dinner. Service for our drinks and food order was reasonable. Drinks and starters came on time - no complaints there. But as it got busier inside the restaurant, service became slack and the kitchen ground to a halt. Nobody attended to our table for over 30 minutes and we waited well over 40 minutes for our main course to arrive between the two courses. We explained we were running out of time to get to the theatre and was left with only 10 minutes to eat a very substandard main course. We ordered pizzas and when they arrived, the topping was dry and the centre of the pizza base was undercooked. We were so disappointed and left with half eaten pizzas and a big bill that we begrudgingly paid for. We do not mind paying for good service and good food but we certainly won't be recommending Hai Cenato or coming back. I wish we had known about the Franco Manca restaurant just around the corner as they serve amazing pizzas which don't talk over 40 minutes to be served.
We picked Hai Cenato as it was near to the Victoria Palace theatre... We were seeing Hamilton in the afternoon & wanted a pre theatre lunch at a reasonable price. We were really impressed with the menu and the service(Frederick our waiter was lovely - really friendly & attentive)
I was especially impressed that I had mentioned it was my granddaughters 17 the birthday when I booked & her dessert (which came with a birthday candle) was not included on the bill!
Would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a snack or pre show meal - it's really nice!!
Small details lacking. Blunt knife, impossible to cut through the pizza, given a dessert fork with main course. Barely a word from the waitress. Pizza OK but overly salty and anchovies overpowered the nduja.
Great food and service but the drinks were too expensive - £25 for 2 Gin and Tonics is too much
We had such a special pre-theatre meal at Hai Cenato, the atmosphere, food and service were all great; We even went back after the show for cocktails!
Initially seated upstairs, but that's more of a bar than a dining area, so asked to be moved downstairs which was not a problem, but 3 staff came and went before we eventually ended up with another table. The food was good quality and expensive, but it is Victoria. We had 2 bottles of red wine which were very very pricey and not great at all... overall its good, but plenty of room for improvement.
My daughter enjoyed her halibut starter. I would have preferred the burrata without so much burrata and more veg. No other vegan/veg options . The pizza was a good size but too much pastry and not enough topping so I left it uneaten. The lemon tart was good and I asked for a strawberry sorbet instead of the written lemon one and that was a really good combo. The room was cold, there were some guests who kept jackets on. When I asked for the air conditioning to be lowered I was told this was not possible. The coffee was ordinary
My conclusion-more vegetarian options/vegan, better pizzas and warmer room.
Great spot for an authentic menu and speedy lunch. Staff are great too and very knowledgeable about menu.
Great little find for post-theatre dinner. I had booked a table but the show overran a little, so we arrived 15 minutes late. Loads of tables available and a few other diners still there. The chefs told us the kitchen was closed, but the front of house (who had disappeared briefly as we entered) welcomed us in and sat us down quickly and was attentive throughout. We quickly ordered and it wasn't long before we were eating. Very good service, quick to receive our drinks and food. Overall a nice find.
Pre a visit to Hamilton at the theatre just round the corner. Good food with excellent service and food served speedily. We will visit again.
Graet location for food if you have tickets for Hamilton
We picked the pre- theatre menu which is good value and very tasty
Restaurant was busy but service is very good - I recommend this as a VFM option
Easy location, chilled yet hip place with a nice selection of pizzas. One of the girls had pasta which was a small portion versus the impressive pizzas...would recommend for a fun dinner catch up in a current spot!
This place never ceases to amaze and please me - the variety of changing pizza menu's using seasonal ingredients and interesting, delicious combinations, is what brings me back time and time again. Love this place and the staff are always so charming, and helpful.
Great service , especially Leon , who went the extra mile to make sure we had a nice pre theatre supper
