Welcome to Masa & Agave, a speakeasy-style cantina hidden below stairs at the historic Hotel Ivy in Downtown Minneapolis. On Thursday's, Friday's and Saturday's from 8pm to Close we are first-come, first-served and do not accept reservations during this time.

Worshipped as the Aztec gods of fertility and long life, venerated for their powers of sustenance, corn masa and agave have been central to Mexican culture and cuisine since ancient times.

Using authentic techniques, we prepare corn masa-based starters and Mexico City-style tacos that are bursting with regional flavors, along with dinner classics like Pork Carnitas and Negro Monelo-Braised Beef Short Ribs.

Our collection of 200 agave spirits pays homage to the jimadores and mezcaleros who have labored over their craft for generations. Sip on a copita or two, or gather friends for one of our signature Margaritas - try the Tradicionale, Tamarindo or a Margarita al Gusto mixed with your choice of spirit. Salud!

Very good all around. Our server Jeanette was great. Excellent food and drinks at a very reasonable price for being downtown and having great quality. Music was a little loud for easy conversation but we’re maybe a little older than the target crowd 😂

Mushroom tacos were even better than hoped for. It’s noisy and expensive, yet it’s still a good choice. Food is solid, and menu was well thought out and well executed. Service showed signs of inexperience.

We opted to sit at the bar because we like interacting with the bartenders. They were very friendly and helpful with our order. Since I'm not a tequila fan, it was recommended that I try the Pepino Martini. It was awesome!! My husband liked the food more than I did (for me...it was just above average). If my husband convinces me to go back, I will try something other than the quesadilla.

Food was delicious and service was friendly & quick. Lighting was terrible and very hard to navigate the stairs and could not see the food we were eating. Seating was also extremely uncomfortable. Low table with like foot stools?

Cute small place tucked in the basement of a hotel. Literally the darkest restaurant/bar I’ve ever been in. Tuna ceviche needs more chips to app ratio. Birria quesadilla was good but soggy. Al pastor tacos had good flavor but a few too many bites of chewy/hard fat. Corn was 10/10. Overall, cute place and decent food and service. The vibe was giving drinking bar rather than have a meal here.
