Cecconi's City of London at The Ned
Sunday and Monday: 07:00 - 22:00
Given cost of meal I would have expected a table that didn’t wobble
Dinner for two: shared starter, two mains, two desserts, 500ml wine, 1 martini - £145
Food was good
Service was ok to good
Ambience wasn't great as it was too loud. Some of the speakers facing the restaurant need to be adjusted for volume.
We booked through open table. Although they emailed several reminders about our booking in the preceding week - when we got there, there was no booking at Cecconi. The female desk staff member was unhelpful, and left my guests and I standing in front of the desk while they milled around and ‘had a look to see if they could help us’. Another male member of the staff finally found us 3 seats at the bar to wait while they sorted it out. We were asked to show them proof of the booking and email it to them. Finally we got a table, and from then on the service and food were exemplary. A round of drinks to apologise for the poor start would’ve been welcome. Cecconi is great, but we are not pleased with open table reservation service.
The service was excellent but the food was so so average. Nothing we tasted wowed us especially the cacio e pepe and the burrata which was £16. I wouldn't go back again unfortunately.
The atmosphere and venue was nice, I liked the jazz singer and musician.
I visited with my mum. We both enjoyed our starter but we weren't too keen on the main courses. Also the starters came really quite quickly which I would not expect from such a high end restaurant.
However the staff were efficient and friendly and I enjoyed the décor and actual building itself.
Although it wasn't hugely expensive, I don't believe the quality of food matched up to the price. As someone who is half Italian and eats Italian cuisine on a regular basis, I don't think it was up to the standard that it should have been considering Cecconi's reputation. The portion sizes could also have been bigger.
Thank you Cecconi’s for a great lunch. 5 of us went there for a works do on Friday. The ambiance and service was excellent. The food was wonderful and so easily could have been a let down when 4 out of the 5 mains were served luke warm. However they insisted on changing everything and cooking it again. Furthermore and without any fuss on my part they didn’t charge for the mains and sides. An unexpected surprise and very decent of them.
This time was quite disappointed with two things (despite me being a regular at Cecconi’s and in general being a fan of the place):
1) table was booked for 8.30pm, but we got sat only at 9pm. No apologies offered.
2) the music today was way too loud compared to every other night. Could hardly talk. Out of usual London places I’ve regarded Ceconni’s as a quite intimate place with background music, but this time the latter was overpowering.
Great food and service otherwise!
I have to say this was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in some time. Firstly it took around 1 hour to seat us (the hostess having ignored the fact that she sent us to the bar and having clearly given the table away several times). Secondly the service was just appalling, surly waiting staff, forgetting key things (such as our drinks) long waits and fairly sub standard cuisine. Also the noise level is unbearable - like eating in a nightclub. Would definitely avoid sadly.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend Cecconis at The Ned to anyone because then I wouldn’t be able to get in!!! Shhhhh! It’s fabulous🤫
The breakfast at the Cecconi’s was very expensive and absolutely not worth its price: we went on a sunday morning with only 6 more people having breakfast, the juices that they labeled as “freshly pressed” were served in a closed bottle,... It was empty, the service was bad and we felt like it was overpriced.
This place is a oasis of calm and charm in a sea of energy. Great food and drinks.
A really great venue, the food service and atmosphere all excellent
We had awful service at they tried to rush us out after 40 mins. They didn’t offer me grated cheese on my pasta as I saw them offer other tables and then they over charged us and added on extra drinks to our bill. Would not recommend or go back. Food was good but overall experience was not great and very disappointing as I had wanted to try it out for ages.
A solid 4/5. Shoreditch Cecconis is much better for ambiance, quality of service and food. Something about the Ned and it's hotel lobby feel lacks in appeal. One of those places that it's nice to go to say you've been. Service was incredibly slow and the restaurant had about 5 waiters for 5 tables.
Great food and even better service!
The NED is an incredible venue, proving a great ambience.
Business breakfast - good atmosphere and varied menu to start the morning straight.
Excellent. The atmosphere and setting are incredible. The place was very busy though and there was a queue outside as they were restricting numbers into the building which houses other restaurants and bars too. After a brief wait and explanation we had a booking, they let us through the queue. When we went it is was buzzing in there! The live music is great whilst you are eating and the ceilings are very very tall but this does not affect the atmosphere! It feels cosy still! I thoroughly recommend it and will be back soon! Many thanks!
Booked for business breakfast. Easy to book, good range of timeslots, good food (although colleague slightly disappointed at lack of Granola on the menu but understand they did provide some for him. Good alternative to Millie's Lounge at same venue.
Amazing food, great service! Definitely the best Italian in London
great food though the usually attentive service wasn't there this time around. also remember that that band plays right next to the dining area so can be quite loud at times
Great place and good food. Very atmospheric especially on Sunday evenings with live music.
Food and setting lovely but band very noisy so it was difficult to hear/converse.
Staff were friendly but very slow.
What a fantastic restaurant - serving the most delicious food. Staff were very attentive and made our visit extremely pleasant. Many thanks, we will be back.
I have eaten at the Ned before (Millies) and enjoyed it very much
This was a let down especially as I had recomended this to friends as well
Starters were very nice - main meals were a let down from poor pasta to very fatty/grissly steak
Sorry Cecconi's never again
Absolutely loved the vibrant atmosphere and professional staff
Visited Cecconi's with a friend for my birthday and was not disappointed.
Food and wine were delicious with a great atmosphere and service. It's noisy as they have a live jazz band but this add's to the appeal in my opinion, my friend and I still managed to have good conversation, can't wait to go back!
You can end up not being able to hear yourself think when the music is too loud. Otherwise fab.
Bit average, the calamari tasted like hard rubber. Portion size relative to quality of food was low.
Service was very slow. It took 1hr to get our food. When it arrived it was cold. Smoked salmon was stringy and chewy. Portion size was a lot smaller than I have had there during the week.
Fabulous steak and great vegan options too. Great variety and service
Very nice place like all the others in the world. Found the open place and the size great als well as the fantastic room of the Ned!
Service was not good st all and the food was REALLY salty
I was really looking forward to an evening here and enjoyed having drinks at the bar. When we were led to the table (which was ready 10 mins late), I realised how much noisier the restaurant space was. Though the live music was good, it was far too loud for what I was expecting on a Monday night. Our round table was originally set for four though we were only three so shouting across increasingly became an issue. The tables were too close together so I had (very polite) waiting staff brushing against my back most of the evening.
The food is delicious and worth a high price but within that price tag you are also paying for the refined Cecconi brand which has definitely been lost in this outpost.
We shared starters of incredible creamy burrata, fresh crab and calamari (the last a little rubbery). 2 x lobster linguine followed which was rich and moreish, plus a beautifully cooked lamb dish. Petit fours followed.
The service was exemplary. Attentive and genuine.
Excellent place. Not our first visit and initially intended to go for Neds Feast, we found the Sunday feast here by accident a few weeks back. Food is really good, service very friendly and just overall a really cool way to feed on a Sunday!!
Great place for brunch with friends. Great service and atmosphere. Yummy food!
Lovely venue, service wasn’t the greatest.
Had to wait ages to be handed a menu once seated, had to ask 3 times for another glass of wine only for 2 extra glasses to be charged to the bill. Forgot to bring over ordered bottle of water also.
But all rectified with no bother, lovely food and general ambiance.
The food was very good. There was a live band playing who were good, if a bit loud. It was difficult to have a conversation due to the sound levels. The service was rushed with little to no time between courses, dinner being served while the starter plates were being collected.
Good atmosphere very lively recommend for larger groups
We ate in cecconi restaurant for my mum and sister in law birthday's, great atmosphere, good food and service x
I reserved a table for two for a date. The service from the staff was friendly and welcoming. However our table was not stable at all, and the restaurant was so busy that we couldn’t get hold of a waiter to stabilise it - I eventually did this myself through trial and error with napkins.
The food was delicious and well presented.
Unfortunately, the music in the venue was so loud that my date and I couldn’t even hear each other. Our waiter, who was friendly throughout the night, also agreed that the noise level was unacceptable.
