   Just take your server's recommendations. Thank you Jose! The "chu-toro tartare with truffle dashi, osetra caviar, and miso bun" and the "tuna tataki with sweet onion and maple-soy dressing" appetizers were amazing. As was the "baked “japanese” sweet potato with black garlic-ponzu butter and lime". One person in a jacket said that it had only been 8 days since opening and that they were not packing the tables to let the servers and kitchen get into their grooves. As a result, we enjoyed the calm and high level of service. I can see that it can get loud if all of the tables were filled.

   We came to this restaurant because of Chef Andy and it was an amazing experience. Fantastic menu options and everything was delicious. Michelin star quality without the cost!

   This is a lovely new place with a great decor and ambiance. The food is both sushi-Japanese and a Japanese grill menu. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Drinks prices are a bit high but for the quality probably not unreasonable. We will return.

   It was a wonderful dinner: best sea bass in town. The nigiri variations and the lobster were fantastic. Jose, our waiter, was really attentive and made us feel wonderfully. We will come back!

   Exceptional food, beverage, service and presentation. Cannot believe this establishment has only been open 3 days! Chris the GM and Anna our server could not have been nicer or more gracious! Highly recommend this restaurant!

   I went to the grand opening of the Japanese restaurant “Next Door at Astor Place” on Wednesday evening, 4/30/25. In a word, it was fabulous. The food, the service, and the ambience, all fabulous. In response to my request, Manager Anna (who was extremely sweet, friendly, and knowledgeable) gave me wonderful recommendations as to what to order which I followed up on. I got beef tenderloin skewers, roasted cauliflower, seared salmon nigiri, seared scallops nigiri, sweet potato, and the chocolate sensation dessert. Everything was delicious and I recommend it all. I would like to give honorable mention to server Emma as well as to Rochester Next Door general manager Nick (who was brought in for the special occasion of the ground opening). Both were extremely friendly and helpful. Nick offered me rosé Champagne, on the house, to celebrate the opening. Really, everyone I interacted with there was very very friendly sweet and helpful. It was my honor to get to meet Mr. Wegman who was there with family and friends for the grand opening. I highly recommend this restaurant.
