   The venue is smart and modern, nicely laid out with lots of space. Tableware and details excellent quality. Service was polite, friendly and professional. The food was excellent - roast dinner with the bar raised!

   We enjoyed our meals very much, the steak was superb, cooked just as we wanted and bursting with flavour. Excellent service, tables not crammed together and all the staff were doing a great job. We will be back !

   I booked here for my boyfriends birthday and the service eas excellent. I put on the notes it was my boyfriends birthday and they made sure we were well looked after. I have a gluten intolerance and they were really accommodating and I had plenty of choice and could even have the fries! We did the Friday sharing steak which came with a bottle of red wine so it was a bargain! we will definetely be back again. The atmosphere was perfect, loved the music and the vibe.Thank you for a great evening x

   3rd time here, not quite as good as previous visits but still very good. It was extremely busy so service was quite slow and little details didn’t get missed. Waiter was friendly and attentive and staff did best to solve a problem we had so overall 4 stars

    Habitual customers of Alston Bar and Beef we will no longer be. The decline in service we had already noted, had decided us to do without a first course, although we had from 17.35 to 19.30 when the theatre started, a circumstance we pointed out to the waiter. We had enough time, even for dessert but... It was impossible to enjoy our meal because we felt we were kept waiting for both courses and the bill. We ordered everything at the same time, including amuses-bouche of bread and olives. Our main course turned up at 18.15. On arrival the restaurant was less than a quarter-full. Perhaps the bread and olives were a pretext for delay. An attempt to serve us our wine was made during the delay. Desserts ordered at 18.39 turned up 19.00, with the bill as we had prudently insisted upon. We got out at 19.15 giving us just enough time to walk to the theatre. The food was excellent but we didn’t enjoy it because we felt we were in the hands of people who just didn’t care, so we left no tip, hard on the waiters because the problem seemed mostly to be in the kitchen. Alston lost an order for four first courses and then lost four customers forever. Plying you with drink you have already bought is a wheeze which in no way compensates for the delay even when you are offered more on the house, when not it’s pretty underhand.

    Absolutely amazing. By far the best meal I have ever had. We went on Friday and got the 3 cuts of steak, 2 sides 2 sauces and a bottle of wine for £50. All the food was delicious and meat was seasoned perfectly. Wine was gorgeous and to top it all off the the service was outstanding, our waiter was constantly over topping up our glasses, giving recommendations on drinks and food etc. Overall such a good experience.

    We had the 3 courses for £18 set menu, so fair enough price. Haggis Pakoras were tasty, but not sure how much haggis there actually was. Cherry & Chocolate Brownie was nice, very rich and decadent. It fell down a lot on the main courses. I had a Chicken & Leek Puff Pastry Pie (just a pie lid) which needed a lot of seasoning and the smoked cheddar mash was solid and didn't taste of cheddar. 2 other people in my group however had the Steak Baguette which was not good - completely dry, with no butter on the baguette or any gravy, and the chips were solid and overdone. Perhaps we would have been better off not having the set menu, but I don't feel very motivated to return especially as we know alternative places for a lesser price that we know to be excellent. We did look at the main menu and felt it was quite pricey. The service was quite slow in terms of waiting times (especially between starters and mains), but all of the waiters were very pleasant and welcoming, and certainly initially were very attentive - it was just more notable as the restaurant filled up that they became perhaps overwhelmed with timings/attention. The place is cosy inside and in that respect a nice ambience, but unfortunately there was a private party going on so we had moments of loud Irish music and singing, and that backed up with the normal restaurant music and other chatter made it a bit too loud on this occasion - ok in our group, but perhaps not the best for a couple on a nice date. So unfortunately it didn't work so well for us, but we didn't have the steaks and it's clearly a popular place, so perhaps we were just unfortunate on this occasion.

    I booked a dinner for my boyfriend's birthday and had made a note to have a birthday message on his dessert, but then we forgot to order dessert because we were so full on the main and starter! Luckily the staff remembered and brought out a lovely message anyway. The steak was yummy and we will be back the next time we visit Manchester

    The food was out of this world. A huge statement yes, but the best steak I have had. Melt in the mouth fillet steak. Staff needed to be a bit more attentive, we had to keep asking for drinks and felt a bit neglected.

    Great cocktails, even better food, coupled with decent service, this was a decent dinner, steaks were cooked and seasoned well, starters were great. We will go back. Wednesday early evening, it was quite and relaxed. Definitely recommend if you like meat

    Excellent restaurant with perfectly cooked steaks. Plenty of service staff so no difficulty in getting attention if necessary. One piece of advice - whoever chose the background music should be made to sit and listen to it for 90 minutes. Because of the general noise of the restaurant all you can hear is an incessant base beat and nothing else. Minor problem but should be addressed.

    We had a brilliant time and the food was excellent, a shame the wine we wanted wasnt available however following valentines day, it's understandable as to why some things would be sold out. We couldn't fault the waitress who served us, she was superb!

    Return visit for valentine's after previous visits have been excellent. Ordered the same we usually do, porterhouse sharing steak medium, while specifying that my partner will only eat it slightly pink. Steak arrived rare. The waiter asked if everything was ok for my partner to state it's too pink and she cant eat it. Was greeted with a shrug and he quickly left the area. Emailed the management at alstons to be told he apparently followed the correct procedure. Real shame the lack of service and management has destroyed our opinion of a place we'd both been recommending previously

    Most restaurants tend to provide poor customer service and food tends to suck on special days such as Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas etc because they will be too busy. However, I was really impressed on Valentine’s Day that Alston Bar & Beef did not allow that to ruin their reputation and kept up to high standard in terms of their food and staff. Although the food was a little bit late, it was definitely worth the wait. I would have been upset if I waited for an hour and the food was rubbish.... Also they didn’t try to scam us with service charge, they made their service charge option... I am definitely going back soon

    Service was great and informative when asked for advice on the menu. Scallops starter with chorizo was amazing as was the cauliflower pakora. We came specially for the Steaks and they did not disappoint. As with a lot of the restaurants in the city the drinks are somewhat over priced. But on the whole a great experience with top quality food.
