Dining Room at The Tamburlaine Hotel
Fri - Sat 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm, 6:00pm – 10:00pm
We really enjoyed our meal at the Tamburlaine. The service and food were both very good. We felt the dining room might benefit from a little more subdued / mood lighting
The food and service - both good, were not matched by ambiance. The space is way too large and far too 'well lit' for dinner. The music was also loud and intrusive - AND inappropriate, (dance & disco????) for a quiet Saturday night evening meal. Far better as a brunch venue….
The waiting staff were wonderful and the food was really nice. Very calm, quiet atmosphere and we didn’t have to wait long at all for the food
The restaurant was very quiet the night we were there. The service was attentive but the food was disappointing for a hotel of this quality. The starters were good, the bread rather dry and the fish pie tasty but with an emphasis on runny mashed potato.
We had booked dinner in the restaurant for 9:00 pm. The food was very good (i had the duck to start followed by the fish pie) however the service was terrible. The water we had ordered never arrived so we went to the bar to ask for it again. Our entree plates were not cleared away for over half an hour so eventually we had to go up to the bar to ask for a dessert menu and was told the kitchen had already closed ten minutes earlier! The restaurant manager was apologetic (even trying to see if the chef was still around to make us dessert!) and she dealt with our complaints in a professional and courteous manner. Unfortunately we didn’t catch her name but her customer service was very good. As an apology for the inconvenience she took the bottle of wine we ordered with our meal off the bill.
Very stylish hotel and felt very suited to the occasion. Staff were great, very polite and attentive. There wasn't many diners so atmosphere was a little flat but actually we have privacy to talk and could hear each other which is an improvement on other hotels in Cambridge. Food was nice and very good value for money.
The entire experience was ruined by an appalling lack of service from very inexperienced/junior waiting staff. Firstly the waitress wanted to take our order as soon as we sat down, we asked if she could wait a few minutes so she paced around our table, stood uncomfortably close to our table listening to our conversation and generally spoiled this lunch from the start. When we did beckon her over to take our order she then went to depart without having asked us for drinks. We said we would like to order champagne by the glass, she said this was not possible, we pointed to the menu to indicate that it was. When the food arrived we were not asked if we wanted any condiments so a couple of minutes later we asked for some condiments, twice. Eventually we got up, walked to the waitress and asked again.
The restaurant was completely empty at lunchtime so the ambience was lacking. However, the food was generally good.
What this restaurant is really lacking is experienced staff that want to give their customers a brilliant experience and service. It’s a shame, because the restaurant itself is lovely and the food is pretty good too.
The food was quite good, unfortunately the coffee tasted like dishwater and was of the same consistency. Great location and lovely room, and the food is decent, fresh and creative. The kitchen closes early which poses a problem for late arrivals at the hotel.
We never got to eat here as when we arrived we were told there was a private function on - such a shames as my friends had travelled for 2 hours to meet me
Really disappointing food and service and no atmosphere. For a high star hotel the food was very basic. Something drastic need some to change for me to return to this hotel.
Not the biggest choice on the menu although everything we had was tasty and at great value. Lots of staff so as expected, service was very attentive with good timing between courses. Spaciously laid out seating so one is not overhearing the next table conversion.
I would say the place is suitable for all occasions.
It's quite a challenge to find a table on a saturday night in Cambridge, so we were glad we could book a table here. We were greeted in a very friendly manner by the concierge of the hotel who took our coats. As others have mentionned before, the restaurant lacks a bit of ambience, but we didn't mind and found it pleasant and elegant. The service was quick and polite and the there was enough choice for the three of us to find a good meal.
We had cocktails which were very nice and the food was very good too... so, what else ?
After having a fab time with friends over a few cocktails earlier this month, I brought my mum along for some lunch. We loved the warm welcome from the doorman, Tim. The dessert menu is something else (we ordered pumpkin pie with doughnuts, and 'chestnut odyssey' - not sure of it's real name, but that was what it was!) We look forward to returning together for lunches and also just for coffee and to try the rest of the dessert menu on a lazy afternoon.
The staff were great, very polite and attentive. We felt a little disappointed that the restaurant, apart from us was completely empty for the whole 2hrs we were there, so Lacking in atmosphere.
It was great to see a wide variety of salads on the menu, but found them on the expensive side. Considering we were the only customers, and at the very start of lunch service, there were already 2 items not available from the menu...two that we chose!!
The food was very tasty and I would return again, may even try their afternoon tea!
Fantastic meal and wonderful service. The decor takes you back to a kind of 1960’s cool vibe.
Looking forward to going back.
Whoever is on deserts deserves a special mention as they were the next level.
New, nicely deigned restaurant and hotel. Food choice was fairly limited but good quality with very attentive staff. Very quiet during Saturday lunch so a little lacking in atmosphere but perhaps that was just a matter of timing. Good selection of gins at the bar.
They didn’t have our booking even though it was on open table, so suggest booking via phone. Took ages to get served-we were told by our seater that our server had great knowledge of all the food-not so. There was a chateau briand special and both the seater and server told us it came with garlic purée. We ordered a side of chips. Turns out it’s mashed potato with garlic. Generally the service was a bit slow and haphazard and there’s no car parking either-however, the food was delicious and that’s the most important thing for me
Tricky one this; the hotel restaurant has lots of potential and great art deco inspired style with friendly staff but (and through no fault of their own) the service (undoubtedly due to poor training) was intermittent. We had to ask for things that should have been noticed, drinks, cutlery etc. The system was down so all sorts of things were not working causing the staff even more problems. As a customer I don't need to know about all the problems. On a Saturday night at 8pm, the place was deserted which for a place in amongst all the new apartments was odd - it should have been buzzing. There was a new chef in the kitchen, we had to send food back - the rare steak was so uncooked even the person who'd ordered theirs blue wouldn't touch it and the red wine sauce was pitiful, scallops were overcooked. Other things were a delight - crispy onion strips were addictive. For the money we paid £115 for 2 courses with drinks, we would not hurry back. Interestingly, the hotel opened just over a year ago and is already on its second management group. The staff did everything to rectify the issues and we were gifted our glasses of wine to make up for it but it wasn't really enough. It was terribly overpriced for what we got. I lay the faults squarely at the management's feet.
..lovely clean Modern restaurant food choice ok pork chop lovely 😊 had to wait a very long time for main course was offered a free drink but would have rather had my food on time ,mackerel starter was not good but they changed it without a problem, our waitress Daisy was very good
