Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Star 78 Speakeasy offers a unique experience with its "fun and inventive drinks" and "great atmosphere." The speakeasy vibe is enhanced by engaging murder mystery events, although the experience depends heavily on enthusiastic participation. While food reviews are mixed, the "friendly staff" and intriguing concept make it worth a visit.

Participated in murder mystery event. It was fun, food was lacking in quality. The $55 price point for app, entree and dessert was great but the over all quality of the food wasn't good. Tri-tip was overcooked, pasta was super boring. They need to elevate their menu. The space is fantastic, beautiful, moody and perfect for a fun evening. Drinks were good, slightly overpriced. Would come back to grab a drink but probably wouldn't eat here again.

The murder mystery experience was really fun, however I wish we could’ve gone to eat somewhere else prior to doing the activity as the food was just terrible. All 3 courses were disappointing, and we each ordered different things so we could try a variety. The drinks were fun, interesting and inventive. Just need a complete overhaul of the food ingredients… would love to participate again if that problem is addressed. In addition, the room was nicely decorated, however it was hot which required propping the door open and no fans to improve air circulation. Very hopeful they are able to make some improvements as the concept is fun!

We found this speakeasy to be perfect for all age groups and generations! Thankful for complimentary bday champagne too. I felt very special on my bday.

Really poor quality and tasteless food. Drinks ($18 to $19) are not part of the $55 per person reservation fee -- that's just for the bland food and script-reading experience. It's a different type of night out, which is why we tried it, but we found it pretty lame and extremely overpriced for what you get. Cannot recommend. Silver lining is the staff. The ladies running the program and serving you are all lovely and hardworking.

We had such a fun time at the mystery night at Star 78. The game was very fun, and we were pleased with the experience overall. The bartenders and staff were all great! The food was a bit below average for what I would normally expect from a $55 dinner; however, taking the cost of running the game into account, the value was good. My one recommendation would be to not read the game notes while the food is being passed out--it was hard to follow and then I felt like I couldn't eat my food while it was hot.

I very rarely ever complain, but this experience was very disappointing. The ambience was great but our experience was not. My husband and I walked in to what we thought would be more of a relaxing, speakeasy vibe and instead the small room had been booked out for a Sprouts employee part and they were extremely loud and boisterous to the point we wanted to turn around and leave. It was just not the place for that kind of party. Thankfully, the crowd left so we decided to stay and give the place a try. The waitress started out good, but our order was wrong with the food and we had to wait for the correction. At the end when we got our bill, she made a mistake and charged us nearly triple the amount of the entree we ordered. After several minutes hoping she would come and check on us but didnt, we flagged her down and she argued saying that was what it costs, then got a menu to prove us wrong and saw it was actually her mistake. She still treated us weird and we offered if she wanted to just refill out drink instead of trying to do a refund. She acted very put out and made the whole experience super awkward, and nothing was even our fault! We were so nice about it! We won't ever go back. She catered to another loud crowd and when you can't even sit next to each other and hear each other talk because others are obnoxious and rude, that ruins everything. Super disappointed because the place has so much potential. We even wanted to rent out the venue for content but after that happened, will go elsewhere.

This was an unforgettable experience! Mostly because it was so comical how bad it was. We went there for “game night,” a murder mystery experience with a 3 course meal. The atmosphere was supposed to be a cool 20’s speakeasy vibe, but then for some reason the murder mystery was 1950’s themed, and the music playing was from the current era. We were asked to read roles, but the game wasn’t explained very well at all. Worst, we went through hours of reading to strangers and we were never even asked or prompted to vote for the murderer. Not much of a “game.” The 3 course meal could best be described as mediocre airplane food. The only good items were the coffee inspired drinks and food, but I would expect that since the place is inside a coffee shop. Lastly, the service was good, but for a $200 night, this felt more like a high school production and food experience, than a swanky fun night out.

We visited this speakeasy for their murder mystery experience, which included dinner. The food was decent, but nothing particularly memorable. Unfortunately, the murder mystery itself was a bit disappointing. The format relied on guests at different tables reading from scripts and sharing information through a microphone. Because of that, the experience depended heavily on everyone participating enthusiastically and speaking clearly enough for the rest of the room to hear. We often had trouble following the storyline and keeping track of the various characters and clues. As a result, it felt nearly impossible to make an informed guess about who the murderer was because so much of the story was difficult to hear or piece together. While it was certainly a unique experience and I’m glad we tried it once, it’s not something I would choose to do again.

Spent over $400 for a family night out. Staff worked hard, but the event felt understaffed and disorganized. Our table had to share character packets while others received individual ones, making the murder mystery experience feel incomplete.
