Blue Duck Tavern
The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.
*Please note that for diners bringing in wine, a $35 corkage fee (per 750 ml bottle of wine), with a limit of two bottles, will be charged.
What a unbelievable experience, the staff truly made it unforgettable. The food had such deep flavors and it was prepared with both love and skill. It has made our anniversary a treat to say the least. There aren’t any words that could explain how special it all was from start to finish
Excellent customer service!
Went here for dinner tonight with my girlfriend. The space was beautiful and I love their "Open Kitchen" floorplan where you can almost accidentally walk into the kitchen.
The service was on par with an upscale restaurant. He asked about tastes and preferences and accurately described dishes both while we were perusing the menu and when they arrived at the table.
My girl ordered a glass of wine and I got the "Quiet Desperation" which is basically a 'Dealers Choice' whereby the bar picks a higher end whiskey after you tell them neat or on the rocks. I opted for the full dealers choice (had them choose neat or rocks) and was served a delicious rye with one big rock. It's not what I'd usually drink (I'm a big fan of peated scotch whiskey) but it was tasty and I liked trying something new.
For our starters we had the Meat and Cheese board and the Duck Wings. The meats and cheeses were good, but the price was high for what we got ($36 for three pieces of bread, a few slices of 3 kinds of meats and 3 kinds of cheeses) but the duck wings were great. Perfectly cooked and drenched in a unique tangy sauce.
For our mains we had the Roasted Duck and the Cavatelli. The duck was VERY salty, it actually reminded me of sausage it was so salted, but still well cooked. The Cavatelli was very good and had a zesty sauce that I really enjoyed. When the server asked about the duck I mentioned it was very salty but wasn't really complaining -- without hesitating he put in an order of the shortribs (which was the other dish k was contemplating with him about ordering) which was completely unnecessary but was a very nice touch. I was really pretty full at that point, so I tried to eat a few bites of the shortribs when they came. They were seasoned really well -- in this indian-esque turmeric/tamarind sauce and the meat basically fell apart. Seriously, you could (and I did) cut it with a fork.
Service was good. One star Michelin rated is a bit overrated. Hamachi was fishy. Halibut and scallops were good not mind blowing. Oysters were creative with the smoked hay and flavor. Not overly impressed for a Michelin rated restaurant. Willing to try again.
Fancy place...no doubt. However, I spent $80 on lunch for two (soup and salad only) and I never disliked the food so much. Awful taste. The street food track offer better meals.
Piatto affettati e formaggi mediocre.
Carni e piatti forti molto buoni.
Servizio cordiale e professionale.
You waiter Tibor was excellent, he went through the menu in detail and recommended choices that was very much to our liking. The food (everything we ordered) was simply divine. Drinks were also great and the staff was very attentive and pleasant.
A wonderful brunch experience with exceptional service!
Every morsel was delicious. Delightful helpful service. We even got street parking. Nice. Great to do before a matinee at the Kennedy Center.
My friends and I were celebrating our friends birthday. I booked through Open Table and made a note that we were celebrating his birthday and that it was a surprise. I called 30 minutes ahead and asked if 3 of my guest could be seated a little early, while I bring the guest of honor in a few minutes later to surprise him. The staff was all for it, ready to welcome and wish him a Happy Birthday. They even printed Happy Birthday with his name on all of our menus, which was an added touch and brought a birthday sorbet after dinner. We loved the attention to detail this restaurant provided us. The food and wine were phenomenal, we are all looking forward in returning to Blue Duck Tavern.
Phenomenal food and great service including recommendations for food and wine pairings that were spot on. Love this restaurant!
Wonderful dinner and impeccable service!
The service was great and the food was spectacular.
Second time here. Couldn’t wait to come back. This time not as good. Probably won’t come back for awhile. Had to send my well-done $52 NY Strip Steak back. I ordered medium rare as usual. The rest of our table was nearly finished eating when I finally got my replacement steak. It was actually closer to medium but fine. Carrots were way undercooked. We didn’t share that for fear of sounding like complainers. But the carrots were raw by any cooking standard. Bottle of wine was great. My daughters duck was outstanding. My husband enjoyed his medium rare steak which arrived correctly. We were not offered anything for the mistake which obviously impacted our experience. An offer to comp the dessert we shared would have been a nice gesture.
Delicious food and lovely restaurant. The staff understood the needs of Celiac customer and how to protect food from cross contamination
I was only in for breakfast. However I expected the standard to be higher, toast seemed average. Omelette was dry and over cooked
Food was great, service was great. We ended up getting the duck which was exquisite, the beef short rib which was surprisingly probably my favorite dish of the night, and some sides which were also pretty amazing. What highly recommended restaurant
This is still one of the best restaurants in D.C. everything was great.
Superb service and food!! Every dish was cooked to perfection! Must order the bone marrow! We had duck, scallops and crab and those potato fries are to die for!!
The crab and corn soup is the best!
Lovely place! Best dinner of our trip!
It was a great place to celebrate with my son his graduation summer. An d the staff was increddeble.
It exceeded our expectations. Hopefully we will be back soon!!
Impeccable service from Nick and the wait staff. Food and cocktails great.
The food quality is high. The prices are relatively high but for a special occasion the quality compensates.
We had a very good meal on Saturday afternoon at Blue Duck Tavern. The food was delicious. My only disappointment was that I wasn't expecting a brunch menu on Saturday. I would have preferred more true lunch options. I'll have to come back for dinner.
My pancakes were a bit raw. But the rest was top notch. Service could improve
Broccoli is much better boiled than charcoiled in the owen
Separate noisy parties from family dinners
The food was amazing and the service was excellent! My party and I enjoyed our first Michelin Star restaurant!
Great food and exceptional service. Reservations highly recommended.
Potentially the best pasta I've ever had––if you go, try the pasta cavatelli that's currently featured. The green garlic sauce is something special. We really enjoyed the overall experience and would recommend grabbing a drink in the lounge beforehand.
A MUST! Blue Duck Tavern has some of the best tasting food I have had in a while! Everything was very fresh & you can taste that everything is made in the kitchen.
I had the Reuben & that was by far the best Reuben sandwich i have had.
The Lemon Drop Martini was also the best one I have ever had also!!!
Will definitely be back when in DC. Thanks!
The chilled corn-crab soup is outstanding, as is the softshell crab. Great selections of wine by the glass make for a perfect lunch.
Excellent food but not interesting enough to compete with the District’s other stars.
Truly-one of the best meals I've ever had in DC. A great choice, particularly for a special occasion
The food was outstanding , as was our server Shakur (sp) ...
we were looking for a more romantic restaurant and this was more contemporary..
the signage could also be a little better . as we almost walked right by it ...
this was pur first time there , wish we knew about the glass cubicle, might have made the experience more intimate..
Overall , I would DEFINITELY recommend the Blues Duck Tavern ( should drop the tavern ) to all my friends and will definitely be back for more ...
Too hot to eat outside and the volume indoors is much too loud.
Also, the chef must have been different yesterday. I have had the same salad with side of chicken 4 times in the past 2 months and it certainly was not the same yesterday. The salad was plated differently and the chicken did not taste the same. Too bad that I cannot count on consistancy.
Definitely nothing mind blowing. The service wasn’t all the great either. Not what I would expect for a Michelin restaurant. The food was good but nothing amazing.
This was my first time here as I was visiting from out of state. I wanted to try a Michelin star restaurant, looked up a few and chose this one based on the menu options and reasonably priced compared to others. The service was excellent. I ordered the duck with a side of mushrooms... The flavor of the duck was good but it was a little chewy and the skin could have been crispier. The mushrooms were good. My sister ordered the short rib and it was by far the best entree at the table. The apple pie for dessert however did not disappoint and was every bit worth the cost (the temperature could have been warmer though as I was told it was fresh out of the oven but the center was cool). Overall I really enjoyed the experience, I like the vibe of the restaurant and would return to try something different.
