What Insiders Are Saying
Tabard Inn in Dupont has a reliable brunch, but the patio is a nice spot for dinner (and live jazz), too.
Lobster roll was very disappointing because there was barely any lobster and too much cilantro and crunchy salad stuff for $22. I had a lobster roll in Nantucket this summer where the bun was 12 inches and it was nothing but 1 and a half pounds of fresh lobster meat for $26. No comparison here. Will never order that again.
The tofu pad Thai was nothing but rice noodles with a sprinkling of ground peanuts and a few pieces of fried tofu. No detectable sauce. I lived in Southeast Asia for years, this is not what pad Thai is supposed to be. Certainly not a good dining experience.
55th birthday for wife
Beautiful historic location with fantastic food.
It was my first time sitting outside in their courtyard for dinner. I would highly recommend outside seating. There was no noise, and the ambience was wonderful.
Tabard has lasted for decades because it should. A delightful and comfy private oasis in shiny and glossy downtown. Plus, for us it's only 1/2 block away, so the bar is our default evening cafeteria. See you again soon!
Expensive. Worth it for a special occasion. Good food. Lovely quirky atmosphere and great garden. But the garden was overwhelmed by the music so we couldn’t sit out there to eat and talk.
From the greeting on arrival, to the friendly and attentive service, to the food, the Tabard Inn is a quiet gem in D.C.
Lovely setting with excellent service. We only had salads and drinks . Since our sample of the food was so limited I didn't give Tabard the highest rating in the food category but the salads were very tasty.
Amazing meal. Clients were duly impressed. We count on Tabard to deliver a wonderful DC experience and they did not disappoint. Menu is on point!
Wonderful outdoor patio!
Food, service and ambiance is amazing!
We were seated in the back room which was very loud. Although we both ordered exactly the same thing, Eggs Benedict with ham, my date’s order came out as Eggs Benedict with spinach. Service was also slow and less than attentive.
The donuts are fantastic! It is a must try item when you go to Tabard Inn.
I also enjoyed my shrimp&grits which was very rich and flavorful.
Nothing beats classic American cuisine done right! I can’t wait to bring my friends visiting DC and try their dinner menu.
Dinner at the Tabard Inn was wonderful, as usual. It's the place I always take out-of-town guests or to go on special occasions. I've been going here for 35 years and it is as great as always. The outside patio was especially pleasant, as the noise level is minimal, and it's beautiful, cozy, and intimate! Food and service were excellent as always. Highly recommend.
The Tabard Inn remains a favorite refuge during my DC travels. The lodging is cozy and charming, and the meals and gathering spaces are perfect for relaxing, socializing, or holding meetings. Like no other place.
Perfect cozy venue for a birthday dinner for my wife. We thoroughly enjoyed the scallops and the rockfish special. The service was excellent, as well. Tabard Inn remains one of our favorites in DC.
You won't be disappointed with an evening at this out of the way and unique gem. From music in the lounge to dinner in the dining room ... enjoy.
We enjoyed every moment ! Ge ge was very accommodating and attentive. She brought us a glass of champagne to start compliments of the house . The food was good perfectly cooked and salad was very fresh. We haven’t been here in years it’s was still just as good .
Thank you for making our 35th Anniversary special !
Charming from the time you walk in. The perfect dining ambiance whether you go for brunch or dinner.
Great place, a tad quiet
It was the day of the bluegrass music, the music was by Bob Perrilla’s Big Hillbilly Bluegrass, a great band. The food was very good and tge atmosphere was very pleasant. Service was efficient and ready to please.
Tabard Inn is always good but the value is slipping. So many other places in DC now that knock it out of the park in terms of the food and offer better value.
No better choice in DC for old school elegant date night.
The market fish is always on point! I usually go for brunch and this was my first weekday-lunch visit to the Tabard. I will definitely be doing this more often! The new menu looks AMAZING - so now I need to try everything!
A surprisingly quaint, charming little place just steps from Dupont circle. Reasonably priced compared to all the other dining options in the area.
Perfect for our business lunch in which we hosted out of town guests who were staying just down the street. The risotto was fantastic and everyone else enjoyed their salads and sorbet. We ate in the quiet courtyard, which was beautiful, and the service was great. Highly recommend.
This used to be one of my favorite DC restaurants-- a place I brought friends and colleagues when I was in town. I had only a salad, fried calamari, and a glass of wine, but judging from these, it's not as good as I recalled. Maybe just a bad night, but over dressed limp salad and crispy calamari with almost not taste. Will try again.
I was very pleased with the quality of service and food was delectable!
Great food, better service.
The best thing about the Tabard Inn is the feeling of dining during another time. Everything about the historic space brings back another, earlier time. The service is quick and friendly, the menu choices are traditional but meet many modern tastes, and there are several satisfying cocktail options. Sunday brunch is the real star -- the Inn allows patrons to linger over their meal to make a memorable occasion of their visit.
Not the same experience we’ve had on many many previous visits. The wait staff was unsure what was available in the kitchen (and we were the first guests of the morning), although she was attentive.
Quiche was delicious, but the salad had been dressed too far in advance and was watery.
All that said, the garden is a delightful spot, and should not be missed!
Outstanding! Best meal we had in DC all week we were here!!
Great food, service, vibe - go immediately!! You won't regret it!
Tabard inn is a great old place in D.C. wth a charming garden. The food is good and you are not rushed. The "living room" befor you enter the restaurant is a great place to wait tho a little dark.
The atmosphere is very romantic. Our server was professional, knowledgeable and welcoming. The shrimp bisque was delightful and the game hen was very flavorful. I would go again.
Host was super friendly and accommodating. Server was ok. Donuts were great. Brunch was ok. I like the dinner/lunch better. Such a cute place.
Cool place. Crab Cake App was great. Halibut special was phenomenal. Blue Berry desert was only ok. Service was excellent. I will definitely go back.
Most outstanding food. Start with the lamb potstickers. We nearly fought over the last one. The scallops were to die for as well as the veal chop. When the scallops were first served, I thought, oh, there are only three. After eating two of them I thought, ohhhhh, there are three. The veal chop was so tender and juicy. Would definitely recommend Tabard Inn to everyone.
