Having opened in March 2018, and receiving excellent reviews, including the Guardian in our first month, we are proud to offer a unique experience. You can sit around our sushi bar, which sits 10 and watch Michal creating the sushi right before your eyes! We guarantee you won't find anything else like this in Birmingham.

Excellent, Brilliant and so good! 👍 recommend!
A great find and highly recommended. A very personal service from the attentive chef and staff. Highest quality and freshest of ingredients.

Wonderfull place, the best sushi that I had ever ate.
Excellent sushi and customer service, a real hidden gem in Birmingham!
Friendly staff, great miso soup and rolls. The seating at the bar is great as you can watch the chef cooking.
Great food and friendly service in a slightly out of the way locatikn (at least for us). People there on Saturday had travelled to return which says it all.
Fantastic food and really great service. Would recommend.
Wonderful sushi, friendly staff, and not very expensive. Loved it.
First let me say, the food was outstanding, utterly outstanding.
However, other areas failed to reach the same standard.
The venu seats 14 in total. Ten on bar stools overlooking the chef/preparation area and four on a table. I and my partner were two of six at the bar and the table for four was occupied.
Although we expected an intimate dining experience, discussing the food et al, we were disappointed as the chef just failed to interact with the customers.
In brief, we were recommended;-
We should’ve ordered the blue fin tuna, after we’d eaten different.
We were told the spicy tuna cone starter should’ve been eaten on arrival, so that the rice moisture didn’t infuse into the dish, after we’d let it sit on the plate for a while.
Drinks are limited (it’s not that difficult I’m sure to have a stock of selected drink. And people like a drink with their food).
The venue is cold (at one point the chef asked a customer if they were cold, the polite reply was “it’s ok I’m just in from America”). Reality was, four of the six seated at the bar had put their coats back on, the other two had thick sweaters on. The four empty seats didn’t care. So YES chef, it was bloody cold.
Swapping the £3 soup for a £4.50 tuna cone in the set meal? Not allowed despite offering to pay the difference.
Laughing as I heard my fellow customer ask why the chef recommended the blue fin tuna, only to hear the reply “because I am the chef and I say so”. Wow, utterly banal.
So please let me reiterate that the food is utterly utterly stunning. If only the rest came within a country mile, then the venue would be superb.
Until then, I won’t be back.
Great food, probably the best Japanese in the area
2nd visit. Really good food and good value. Now sells a small selection of Japanese beers and wines. Highly recommended
it was an amazing experience there were 4 of us ages ranging from 12 to over 70. the waiter was fantastic at explaining the menu. highly recommended.
Excellent food. Great staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Brilliant experience
A nice and quiet restaurant. Lovely place to spend an evening if you are a sushi lover. Prices are a little bit higher than you would expect, but the quality of the food is outstanding. Truly a proper experience, with downright perfect rice, fish, soy sauce, wasabi, and even ginger.
Highly recommend for special occasions.
Definitely the best sushi in Birmingham.
All made fresh in front of you.
Intimate place with only about 10 seats.
Amazing food and great service. Can’t wait to go again.
I am so surprised with the food and service they have provided! The quality of the food is amazing!
Fantastic food! Great to be able to watch the dishes being prepared in front of you.
Great food with very good portion sizes all made and prepared I front of you. Only small issue is that the menu is slightly short on choices
We had heard good things about this restaurant and had tried the other sushi restaurants in the city centre. We had just got married and wanted a special meal so made a booking. We recognised the chef from a sushi restaurant we had visited previously and he had branched out to his own restaurant. It was a great experience. The food was extremely fresh and exceptional in taste. We learnt a lot about the sushi culture too and everyone sat nearby joined in conversations. Delicious food and we will be coming back!
Good atmosphere. Will visit again soon. Fresh and clean food.
Intimate setting with front row viewing of the chef preparing each dish. Really fresh! Will definitely be returning to try more of the menu. Would recommend for a date.
Michael & Matic, Do a fantastic job, great food, great drink & great conversation. What more could you ask for!
Absolutely amazing food, and the most important is the food is really fresh
Had the most incredible time at Gaijin Sushi this Friday. Michal the chef is so passionate about his food, his ingredients, his restaurant and his customers. 'Magic' the waiter was so friendly and attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed, and was patient when we didn't know what we wanted. Michal encouraged us to try new things, talked with real enthusiasm about his journey as a chef, and really encouraged us to be adventurous. I've not had a lot of sushi before, and was pretty nervous about being too out there with my choices, but this was absolutely the best place to try and branch out. Fantastic value for the quality of the food, worth every penny. I will definitely be back, I will definitely be telling friends to go there, and I will absolutely rave about it whenever I can.
Love this place. Top quality sushi prepared in front of you by a great sushi chef who clearly enjoys his work. Not many seats so often best to book, especially for evenings.
Love this place! Delicious sushi, highly recommended.
Wonderful food, easy informal atmosphere and great service.
Top class sushi at reasonable prices
Really lovely dinner - tiny 10 seater restaurant where the sushi is prepared right in front of you! Food and drink beautifully presented, slightly more expensive than other restaurants around the Chinese quarter but good for special occasions/date nights. Would definitely recommend!
Had my dinner there the day before yesterday. Really want to go again soon.
Hands down the best Sushi I have had. Staff are excellent and the food is delightful! Really refreshing to find a gimmick free sushi place. Could not fault this place at all. Best sushi in Birmingham by far in my opinion.
Very Helpful Staff with Nice Environment! Recommend EVERYTHING on the menu as a Chinese sushi lover.
A fantastic place. Amazing food prepared in front of you and friendly and knowledgeable staff make the experience even better. Highly recommend.
The best sushi I’ve ever had, made in front of you. Everything we had was so delicious. Service was very friendly and unobtrusive. Very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, highly recommend!
Excellent food, excellent service. Will definitely be coming back!
Fantastic restarurant serving Birmingham’s best sushi. Not cheap but quality ingredients and genuine craftsmanship make it worth every penny.
Absolutely delicious food and excellent atmosphere! Highly recommend. Booking in advance recommended.
Proper sushi, best i had in Birmingham, small venue, unique setup allows you to observe the chef preparing your food
We were late but I rang to say we would be late. On their website it said it had no licence so we took our own alcohol, only to be told off my the waiter because we took it into the restaurant. Terrible customer service with aggressive staff. They asked us to leave while we were eating because the next sitting was due, we had nearly finished. We won’t be going back.
