Appalling. From almost an hour wait after the reservation time, incompetent service, old and mushy tomatoes in what was supposed to be the hearts of palm salad with 3 tiny dry and tasteless slivers of hearts of palm, to the side of avocado in the lox dish that turned dark and bitter so I had to literally spit it out. Everybody else’s food was merely edible - in if you closed your eyes and tried not to think about it kind of way. The manager on the other hand was lovely - and did her best to make all of this better, she seemed to genuinely understand and care that the whole experience was a disaster - however this was beyond help.

I would normally give a perfect rating, but the Plaza was definitely off this night (December 1). They must have hired some weird third party bouncers because these guys were rude and giving me a hard time about my reservation. Apparently “the Champagne Bar doesn’t take reservations.” I must be stupid or crazy (which is how they were treating me). I guess when you go the Champagne Bar’s part of the Plaza’s website there’s no button to make a reservation and it certainly doesn’t take you to OpenTable, and this isn’t my third time bookings a reservation (this is sarcasm). I told these guys that they do take reservations and my friends were inside. “That’s nice that you have friends,” said one of these jerks. “Tell someone to come get you and you can go in.” Well, I did just that. Very disappointed in the representation that night. However, my friends and I had a lovely server who treated us very well. I’d still go back, but Plaza, come on! Don’t hire jerks to be your bouncers. And please educate them on reservations.

The hotel says they no longer take reservations, but I was able to get reservations on Open Table. This got us out of the "red velvet waiting line" for the new, first come-first served system at The Plaza. We had three separate reservations to total 10 people. They whisked us inside, accommodated this 10 vs 3-3-4 request and we got the best seas in the house. A comfy couch and chairs around a coffee table to have champagne to toast four girls on their 21st birthday. The waiters were formal (as you would expect at a fancy, classy place), but fun and went out of their way to do amazing pictures for us. Although we were simply having champagne, they surprised us with a lovely white plate, with Happy Birthday written beautifully in chocolate with the sweetest plate of macaroons, mini cupcakes, etc for our group. Our Prosecco was $80/bottle (retail less than $20 :)), but they didn't do an automatic gratuity as most places on our NYC birthday weekend did for the size of our group. It was the perfect way to rest our feet and have a once in a lifetime New York moment!

Recently celebrated my 21st birthday here with a glass of champagne. They were able to accommodate our group of 10. Some champagne is pricey, but we chose the the $80 bottle of prosecco. Even though we were drinking one of the cheapest options, they treated us incredibly kindly and respectfully. They even brought out free desserts with macarons and other mini desserts. It is the perfect place to celebrate anything special! I recommend making a reservation so you do not have to wait in line. Highly recommend!!!
