Solid neighborhood restaurant. Never disappoints. Our go to for out of town guests. Service was timely and friendly. Surprised at the number of empty tables on a Sunday night
Great meal and service as always! Favorite restaurant in the city. Consistent through the years!
At least on this occasion, Calle Ocho seemed to have ambitions (and prices) beyond their ability to deliver. A very tempting menu and some quite nice starters, but neither the steak nor the chicken was as good as it should have been--the former too tough, the latter too mushy.
I have been coming to Calle Ocho for years, starting back from when they were two blocks away at the original location on Columbus. The present location is even more lovely and charming. The service is always outstanding and super warm and welcoming from the host at the door to every server and busser. They always are truly appreciative of your patronage and without fail will let you know.
The food is consistently very good, a sort of Cuban/Pan Latin is the feeling with lots of choices for needs/tastes of every diner. Always a few great specials to keep it interesting for the regulars. Amazing ceviche selection and gorgeous seafood entrees as well as lots of options for the carnivores. Terrific custom cocktails and huge variety of margaritas and mojitos as well as a great tequila list.
Lively crowd all appreciating the music playlist, but conversation still possible.
Literally one of my top five go to places for special occasions, big groups or just a festive night in Manhattan. They also have great brunch too and amazing sangria specials!
We just enjoyed a wonderful, delicious meal,at Calle Ocho. The beat appetizer was so good, as as the salmon, quesadillas et.
We will return.
Food was okay. A little pricey, but I understand the alcohol is included. For those who don't drink, maybe consider lowering the meal price.
Love this place for brunch. Food is great and the sangria menu is awesome. The only thing I didn't realize is if you book after 2pm for brunch, they close at 4pm to prepare for dinner starting at 5pm. Wish I would have realized that first because I felt a bit rushed out. Other than that, it's a fun place! I've been here at least 4 times for brunches, some celebrating special occasions.
Good food & great atmosphere. Good place to go with a group. Kid friendly.
Excellent! Good food, service, decoration...................
Great food, great service! Always a good experience at Calle Ocho.
Reservation was made for 9.. we got their about 15 min earlier and did not have to wait to be seated which was great. Drinks were strong and very good which is hard to get at most places ! Food was delicious! The fried calamari & guacamole with plantain chips for appetizers were amazing! We also ordered paella , ribs, vaca frita and one other fish dish that wasn’t the salmon.. again.. so good! Everyone should come here at least once to have their food !
My first time here. We very much enjoyed our dinner here, including a sampling of 5 appetizers -- all delicious -- and the paella -- very, very well done. Lively dining room against a background of excellent classic Cuban dance music on the sound system. But not so loud as to disrupt conversation. We were too full after the main course to even think about desert. Service was a bit spotty, but we were in no rush. I prefer Calle Ocho to some of the Cuban restaurants I've been to in midtown. Will definitely return when I'm on the Upper West Side.
I always enjoy Calle Ocho. The food is consistent and good. Service is a little slow, but warm. Brunch is a great time and dinner is quite pleasant.
Great food, attentive service, fun atmosphere. The sangria was amazing! Highly recommended for brunch , although their dinner menu is just as delicious.
Great ambiance and food offerings. Went for the bottomless sangrias and could only have 3. They were strong but so good, they offer about 10 different kinds of sangria both red and white. My Vaca Frita was amazing, well seasoned and prepared.
Brunch is amazing, come here all the time with friends and always have a good time and service is always great and fast.
This is my 3rd time. Ordered the paella to share and it was exquisite. The Malbec wine was to die for. We had very friendly waitors and the the hostess was wonderful too. The appetizer and the yummy bread with bean spread was such a delicious touch. Definitely recommend this place and will be back again.
We appreciated the quiet table given us. Service was very good. Food was good but a bit overpriced. Maybe it is more of a tourist place.
Best of thing was guacamole with plantains. Entrees were mediocre.
They changed the brunch menu, so it’s no longer a good value. Standard, run-of-the-mill bottomless brunch option now. Service was impeccable, though!
I went on a pretty quiet night. I love the decor and ambiance of the place. Wasn't too hungry so I only ordered the ceviche and arepa. They have so many distinct flavors that they created for the ceviche, it was hard to make a choice. The arepa had shredded beef on top of the corn cake. I will definitely go back. I would probably try a different Sangria because the tropical one was a little sweet and underwhelming. All in all, great experience.
Never a disappointment. I will always consider Callo Ocho for my brunches and dinners.
Finally a visit to a restaurant close enough to a Cuban restaurant, food wise , remaind me of the way that it just to be in my country, more like my mother's cooking and all familiar name on the menu. For close to the original way thank you, from the girls on the front to the chef's, special thanks to all the waiter's the came thru my table, they made my wife birthday a very good one thanks.
Too too loud! You need some fabric on the walls and pillars. Otherwise outstanding.
The place is gorgeous. We felt like we'd wandered into a bygone era of cosmopolitan elegance. The menu was also beautiful, mouthwateringly so. But then we waited way too long for a server to bring water, and waited even longer for someone to take our orders. Then the food wasn't hot when it finally did arrive, and they neglected to bring us all the dishes we'd ordered. To top it all off they charged our credit card twice. They did attempt to make up for their mistakes with a piece of chocolate cake for dessert, though no one wanted dessert and I'd told the waiter more than once that I had a severe gluten allergy.
Great food. Great sangrias. Great vibes. Great service. And that was for brunch!
My boyfriend and I will be returning for dinner soon :-)
*Always make reservations. Give yourself at least 20 minutes to find parking.
I like the cheese pans the yeast. Everything was pleasant including the forks and the napkins. I loved being in the place and the food was served because it was seasoned like my friends. Friends and food are important and we enjoyed the salsa. Food was great. Sangria was life. Life was sangria. Thanks you for making it sangria with Spanish Harlem
I went to Calle Ocho based on reviews I’ve seen and was not disappointed. I had skirt steak with rice and a fried egg on top. My friend had the paella that was very good as well. I had flan for dessert and absolutely loved it. In addition to the great meal, the staff was attentive and I look forward to going back soon.
Food - nice size portions with good flavor; didn't leave hungry
Atmosphere - nicely decorated and energetic - not a quiet date night type place
Staff - helpful and friendly; customer service focused
Price - a little expensive but nor horrible for NYC
I'd been coming here for years and hadn't been for awhile but I felt it lost the vibe and the value I remembered.
Disappointing about sums it up. The concept of pan-Latin food served in an upscale atmosphere is appealing, and I had heard good things about this place, but the food was boring and expensive ... not a good combination. The shrimp, which appeared in both dishes we ordered, were not fresh and they were almost tasteless. Any restaurant in Lima does cebiche better than the one we ordered, and the gallitos were not up to Costa Rican standards either. Two drinks and two appetizers came to $84. You can do a lot better than that, even on the Upper West Side. This place obviously makes most of its profits on alcohol. I might go there again to drink, but not to eat.
Wonderful place for Latin food while visiting NYC. It was a romantic dinner and a short walk to restaurant from out Hotel. Great service from staff. Ceviche, empanadas, calamari, and flan all awesome. We just did small plates and loved it. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Such a great experience celebrating a friend's birthday. Whole staff was very helpful and they didnt ruin the surprise of her bday cake. Also let us sit early to set up balloons. Thank you Miguel for taking our pictures and not rushing us out even though you were closing!!
Have been coming here for years, love the food, drinks and ambiance.
This place has gone downhill. It used to be great but I recently went back and was very disappointed. The Sangria tasted plain weird and is now served in regular water glasses. It actually looked like water inside my glass. The booths were torn and worn. It was really loud and crowded. Each entree is now $30 dollars which is a bit pricey given the fact that you're expected to be happy with mediocre Sangria. The food was good... but there are still a lot of downsides to coming here.
Wonderful in all ways except the music was too loud and made hearing the others in my small group of 3 difficult. I don’t understand why fostering conversation with low levels of music isn’t a value.
Upon reservation, I made Sure I noted the occasion. Servers didn’t acknowledge the occasion, nor provided his name. The server was very uninterested in convo let alone serving us. The server was not available at times if need . In addition upon the closing of the restaraunt, numerous staff kept coming to our table rushing our meals away forcing a dessert menu on us almost trying to ensure we speed up our dinner process. We were definitely rushed and We did not appreciate that one bit. Especially when WE are spending money for a special occasion.
The food was incredibly delicious and each dish was prepared with such care-we had to take pictures bc they looked like works of art! So, soo delicious and the service was truly impeccable.
Calle Ocho's brunch is amazing. The ropa vieja is to die for and their sangrias are amazing!
Pretty nice place. Food is good not great. I had the Sunday brunch bottomless sangrias which they have a variety of individual glasses. They say us at a booth that the seats were stained, torn, and worn. So they could definitely use a facelift on the seating.
