We have been to the Angel many times and for various occasions, never disappoints very good food and service.
Eaten here many times and the food this time was the best ever.Roast Pork with trimmings and great treacle tart to finish me off !.Eaten fish here before (Sea Bream) and it was the size of a minnow so would never order that again but the service is excellent.Nice atmosphere.
Excellent food, ambience and the service by Mike was so good .
Highly recommend this restaurant . First time we had been but not the last
Food was a little on the homely when compared to previous visit but still good and the angel has nice atmosphere.
Lovely meal, amazing chocolates with coffee. Good choice of foods. Great service.
A group of us from different parts of the country meet here twice a year . It never disappoints . This time the food was exceptional - have they got a new chef?
This is the 3rd time I have eaten at the Angel - just as good as the previous times!
The service is friendly and well informed, but it is the food which worth the visit.
We both had fish for starter and main - amazing! So tasty and fresh.
This was a wedding anniversary on a Monday night. It was quiet but I know that is unusual.
We had a delicious meal, staff were very hospitable, helpful and friendly. We will definitely return soon!
Great food from the daily menu - 2 courses for £12.50 - great value.
My only gripe is that they only have 200cl bottles of coke/Diet Coke for the same price other restaurants sell 330cl.
EXCELLENT GLUTEN-FREE OPTIONS, AND OVERALL A MOST ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE
Menu and food are both really good. The service was quite slow and there was quite a wait for our starters.
Excellent in every regard! This restaurant deserves 5 stars. Only suggestion would be, how about some real ale in a small barrel in a water jacket cooler on / behind the bar?
A lovely place, will be going again!
Best restaurant in the area, always good quality and service.
Good ambiance, plenty of menu choice, food mostly excellent, service a little slow (45mins for starter - but Friday night and full house), wine selection reasonable, desserts a little over priced (especially cheese) and only average
This was our first visit to The Angel and we enjoyed it very much, came for husband's birthday and he was very pleased. Lovely building. Sat in conservatory which was great although can imagine it would be quite hot on a sunnier day. Food was great, only suggestion would be the pasta dough was a little thick. The filling (crab) was great.
The Eton Mesh was gorgeous and we came away with a box of macaroons. Trying to eat them slowly.
the food was very good as always, the only disappointment was that our deserts didn't come out together
Quality of cooking not up to the pretension of the menu. Odd combinations of ingredients that do not work (e.g. salmon and beetroot). Small portions and high prices are justified in a top-end restaurant, but this place is not in that league (though seems to be deluded that it is).
Service was excellent and the establishment itself has a lovely setting, however we were not overly impressed with all the food. The website gives the impression of fine dining and in my opinion it isn’t.
Don’t get me wrong the food was edible and we didn’t complain .....this is purely constructive criticism
The cheese soufflé for starter was quite dry and the crab/crayfish ravioli was ok but nothing special.
I have to say the smoked haddock dish, which I believe is a best seller, was delicious but temperature wise a little cool.
I also feel that although staff and service were good it may be an idea to explain to customers that the dressed crab for a main is in fact ice cold from the fridge and warm sides don’t really compliment it.
I was also a little disappointed that a Merlot wasn’t available . We had beer instead which per pint was actually cheaper than the £4 bottles of water ( we were not offered tap water)
Also, I may be mistaken, I don’t remember seeing and I was definitely not informed that the gratuity was automatically added on! Perhaps you could remind me where this is stated.
First visit but definitely not the last. Excellent food and very friendly attentive waiter
An inspiring menu and really delicious. It was not our first visit and will certainly not be our last!
Completely unexceptionable. Nothing at all to complain about. Yet somehow there is no urge to return. Maybe we were just unlucky on the night, but it was not special at all.
Exceptional food with brilliant, caring and considerate service. Value for money is always a priority with us and we weren’t disappointed.
All in all we had a fantastic evening and I would not hesitate recommending The Angel to anyone.
Summer lunch menu is wonderful! Great selection, delicious food, good portions and such good value for a really lovely lunch! Thoroughly enjoyed and would not hesitate to recommend! Service was spot on too and very pretty place.
The meal and environment were lovely but the waitress service was not as you would expect in such a good restaurant.
The Angel never fails on the quality and presentation of their food, the fish is just divine! There was six of us, We have an appointment tomorrow at had their little private room...perfect because We have an appointment tomorrow at are a bit noisy! We all loved our choices and the service was great We have an appointment tomorrow at had a fantastic lunch. Thank you The Angel!
We had lunch outside and the whole experience was delightful - food, service, atmosphere and surroundings. First time of going but will certainly be back
At last somewhere I don't feel I am short changing my other half when it comes to the vegetarian offerings with a huge bonus that their specials menu is fish - heaven! My home area near High Wycombe seems a little short on vegetarian and fish (and not a breadcrumb covered anything in sight), so the 60 mile round trip was considered well worth it. If you are planning a visit, Saturday lunch time and any time Monday to Thursday are quiet (can't understand why). Thanks for a great meal, we are planning the next visit now.
We had an excellent set menu meal which was fantastic value for money. Usually with set menus, the portion sizes can be on the small side, which is fine. But not on this occasion at The Angel. The food was very good and beautifully presented with very professional service. We were celebrating a birthday, and without really mentioning it to the restaurant, they simply overhead us. And at the end of the meal, they presented us with some chocolates with a Happy Birthday Message. Outstanding.
Have been to Angel many times. This was for celebration with daughter and fiancé after recent engagement. Sadly, not up to scratch. Crispy squid, which 2 of the 4 of us had, was anything but crispy and two tiny overcooked pieces seemed very little, especially given the price. The cheese soufflé had clearly been warmed up or kept warm and was in fact hollow and crispy. Mains, the hake was good as was the lamb. However the Yorkshire pudding with the beef was even crispier than the cheese soufflé and had clearly been rewarmed.
Desserts were good.
It was Father’s Day and I know they were busy, but given the price point of this restaurant/pub, we were very disappointed on this occasion. We did not complain as we did not wish to make a fuss and ruin a celebration with my daughter, however we are unlikely to be rushing back.
Everything was lovely apart from the fact that our table had a full view of the back of the bar.
The food choice for the business meal was excellent and the quality and food that I had was excellent. Service was very good, although it wasn't particularly busy.
However, would definitely return.
Had the Cornish Hake, which was beautiful!
We last went to the Angel nine months ago with a party of 11 for a big birthday and it was excellent. This time there were only five of us, including some Americans who usually search out Michelin stars. They confirmed our belief that this is among the best in the area
Recommended - great fish and value for money. Homemade chocolates to take home too!
A very good menu with lots of choice. Great service and food. Very enjoyable.
Have been twice now and the food and service is always superb
We went as a party of 7 to celebrate a birthday The food was lovely, the staff were friendly and we were able to take our time. We really enjoyed ourselves
Returned for another great fish meal. Friendly and helpful for wheelchair access
Fantastic fish menu, beautifully presented. We sat in the conservatory where the tables are set with white linen tablecloths and linen covered chairs. The service was good but not overpowering. However I do hate it when they bring the food before the plates. You have to just sit salivating over it. The desserts were great - I had a chocolate tarte and my partner had cheese. Portions are measured but not mean, and prices more London than country pub.
I had dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday
We ordered three main courses; The John Dory was completely different to the description on the menu (no samphire but lots of silverskin onions)
There was no bread offered and all three meals were very small portions
Suffice to say we went home hungry
We were very impressed that we were allowed to bring our own bottle for a reasonable £5 corkage fee. However, when the bill came we found that that was £5 multiplied by the number of people present. When I explained that this was not what the website had said though the gentleman who dealt with our bill kindly reduced it to £5.
Food was fresh with good quality ingredients, was well presented and very tasty even on the set menu. Our waitress was very helpful and attentive
