What Insiders Are Saying
A West Village Mexican spot with good margaritas and a great bottomless brunch deal.
The food is good, semi-upscale Mexican but nothing too special. You definitely come here for the good ambiance and margaritas. I had a reservation on a Saturday night and had to wait 30+ minutes to be seated, which was very upsetting.
food was really good - had the fish tacos. The tequila and margaritas were very good as well. Fun and lively place with a cavernous feel - would definitely go back.
Even though I had a reservation, they were reluctant to seat us in the back where it was warmer and less noisy. They finally did move us to the back. As the night progressed, we notced that there were plenty of tables available, so no need to force is to stay up front. The waiter also added two margaritas that were purchased at the bar to our bill for the table.
Our food took an hour to come out and it was so loud we couldn’t talk to eachother. Food was good thoughz
Careful with this one (see below).
This was maybe my sixth visit, and sadly, probably my last. I sat outside - on Halloween if you can believe it. The food was fine, service was not as good I've had there previously and I felt the meal was overpriced.
My biggest problem was being overcharged for three drinks. The drinks were $13 on the menu, our party of three had five of them and we were charged $15 each for three and the correct price for two. When I questioned the waiter, he told me he hit the wrong button (XYZ Margarita *Rocks* instead of XYZ Margarita). What?
I spoke to the manager. He said: no problem, we corrected the check. I explained that it was a problem because I didn't want to come back if I didn't trust the restaurant. He further explained that the waiter was new and hit the wrong button. I asked why there was a separate button for XYZ Margarita *Rocks* - what is that. He couldn't give me a good answer, beads of sweat started forming on his forehead and I had to get to the parade so I left.
Regarding my 'overpriced' comment, I understand overpriced for one may not be overpriced for all so here are thevdetaols. In addition to the five margaritas, we had chips/guac, two enchilada plates and a taco plate. The total was $167 before tip.
Had lots of fun! Great service. Food & drinks were good too!
From the moment we arrived the hostess was ready for us. We had a private nook in the back and it was perfect. The food was fast, fresh and amazing, everyone enjoying their order. The server was very attentive. We will be back!
Used to adore this spot for a very tasty boozy brunch option—however they’ve really juiced up their beverages (and not in a good way). You’re not getting much value for the bottomless portion because the drinks are very juicy/sugary but the food still tastes good. The image included was their herb speckled scramble with egg whites (was slightly uncharged for egg whites).
Friend in town, bottomless brunch, really fun!
Agave is a very fun, reliable place for Southwestern/Mexican food. Margaritas are killer. Food is good. Serv8ce is a pleasure.
One of the gems - nice find ... will be in my regular to go places... loved spending time ...
Agave is really cute. Good food & music. Not too crowded / overwhelming but just right. The food is really good & the portions are perfect.
Not good at all do not recommend the food thought it was going to be amazing was not and service we waited a long time from a guy waiter to get our food and then simple things like a straw and napkins
More Mexican than southwest, which disappointed me. Everything was just ok. The server was nice, good Margaritas, decent guacamole. The hostess was indifferent.
Came for bottomless boozy brunch to catch up with a friend. Fabulous time!
Food was fabulous, staff was delightful. Very attentive, offered suggestions, our glasses were never empty.
Worst service I have every experienced in NYC. Period. We stood at the host station for 10 minutes waiting to speak to someone. We didn't get napkins or silver after our appetizers arrived and had to ask for them TWICE after that. We once had to ask FOUR times before our water was refilled. The drinks are really skimpy and not cheap. The food was actually not bad (the chicken enchilada was very good), but the service was so bad I don't think I could go back even for a free meal.
Great frozen margaritas. Go happy hour for good deals.
The ambiance sells this place! Gorgeous setting in the heart of Chelsea (not near the projects)! Food was great, service great and price was decent!
The guacamole was good however the chips were stale. Then we ordered chicken and fish tacos. The chicken tacos were not impressive and the fish tacos tasted like unmarinated fish. Super disappointed. Maybe this place is only good for brunch on the weekends.
Food and service were good! Only problem we had was that our table was located close to the door with no fans, and it was a little uncomfortable for such a hot day.
Food was gorgeous and you can’t go wrong with bottomless margaritas! Unfortunately service wasn’t great but they were quite busy
Went here for bottomless brunch and it was FABULOUS. Our waitress was wonderful and continuously kept coming back to refill our drinks (often before we were even finished), and portions for the entrees were big and filling. Best brunch ever!
The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. My friends and I had a lovely evening.
They were so accommodating to my party! There was a mixup with the reservation time but they opened early to make sure we could be seated at the original time. Will definitely return!
We went here for our birthday celebration. Awesome food and outdoor seating. The Benedict eggs are fantastic! I would eat there every day!!!
Awesome brunch special, bottomless drinks.
However there were several large groups when we arrived and the hostess tried to put us in between them even though we had a reservation. Way too loud for 2 people, so we requested to be reseated. Overall a good experience.
Great happy hour specials on the margaritas, food is fresh and good size portions, great place to meet for afterwork bites/drinks
Agave has been one of our go-to spots for years. Though only one friend still lives in the neighborhood, it's access to transportation (subway) allows the rest of us to get there easily. We know we can be a little louder than normal, enjoy some great bites and cocktails for a decent price. Glad to know it's still around.
I reserved space at Agave to have dinner with a few close friends for my birthday. The atmosphere was cozy and warm, the staff was friendly and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the costillas entreé and the tres leches dessert.
Me and my friend went for bottomless brunch at Agarve and had a wonderful time. I went for the Mexican eggs benedict and my meal was divine. We got two hours of unlimited drinks and I would really recommend the frozen Magarita. The waiters were very attentive and friendly. We chose to dine at Agarve at 2pm on a Wednesday so we were actually the only people in the restaurant at the time however I have heard that it is usually packed so I would recommend booking.
The food was not appealing at all!! The server was nice but appeared to be all by herself. She needed assistance. They give you a two hour limit but you see your server ever 20 min
Always a great time at Agave. Wished that the service was a lot more attentive..
Overall it was great. Really enjoyed my meal and ambiance.
My friend and I had planned a beach day but the weather did not want to comply, so we decided to go to brunch. I had heard good things about AGAVE so I made a reservation that morning and we were on our way. We had an incredible brunch, the staff could not have been more cordial and fun. The only complaint that I have is that the music level was so high, it made it difficult to talk over. NYC is so noisy all the time that when you want to visit with friends, it not good to compete with a sounds system, you end up losing in the end.
We LOVE Agave! We eat there every time we are in ATL.
Reservation was at 2 PM and we didn’t sit down until 2:45 PM. They said brunch ended at 4:30 which was fine but that would cut our 2 hours unlimited short. Didn’t bring out the birthday dessert at all. First refill took 30 minutes.
Fun place, good happy hour margaritas!
