Acqua Al 2
Many simple pasta dishes from which to choose. Yay. Underwhelming food though. From spinach balls dowsed in way too much sauce to 12$ starter salad and 3 “pretty good” entrees to the fusilli with shrooms which was amazing. Server rushed us from the get-go and generally was inattentive. We opted for a booth not knowing they were “cozy” for 4. We should have asked to move but we didn’t. Our bad. Love the bar tho and would go back for a drink.
Way smaller portions for Restaurant
DC Restaurant Week. Have dined here before and was happy with the food and service as well as the atmosphere. A sure bet dinner date but perhaps save very special occasions for another place.
Such great food and excellent service!
We have been coming to this location since shortly after it opened about 10 years ago. We have never had anything but excellent food and service.
This was, without a doubt, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We shared the pasta sampler (5 vegetarian pastas) and the steak sample (3 steaks; blueberry sauce, balsamic reduction, and shaved Parmesan). Everything was incredible. We also had the hazelnut crunch bar for dessert and it was amazing, not too sweet but full of flavor. I can’t wait to go back!
Everything was wonderful—food, service etc. can be noisy but we had a great table away from the main room. Would highly recommend it!
Great food - great atmosphere - fantastic service...and the pasta
The Blueberry steak is to die for!! I let my son choose his favorite restaurant for a good bye dinner and he selected Aqua Al 2!! The service, ambiance and food is top notch!! The Blueberry steak was delicious, cooked to perfection and the House-made gnocchi with a gorgonzola cream sauce was the perfect compliment. Even the Italian margarita was delicious. My only complaint might be the $38 price tag for a small filet that comes with nothing but since this was my son's request I enjoyed a fantastic meal!!
I don’t suggest attending for restaurant week. The portion sizes were unreasonably small (at least for the dishes that I ordered) and the service was hurried in comparison to non restaurant week attendees (who had normal portion sizes).
While the food was tasty, I was disappointed in this overall experience.
This is some of the best Italian food in DC. It was understandably packed for restaurant week. I was a little bummed because it seemed like the waiter did not appreciate when people ordered from the restaurant week menu. Also, the $10 surcharge to each restaurant week meal made it not as a great a deal. However, the food was delicious and definitely high quality - had their famous blueberry steak and it was seriously so amazing. Would definitely recommend this place as a special occasion spot.
Dinner was very good, as usual. The vegetarian tasting pastas were lovely but not as truly great as in the past. A bit repetitive.
Great meal as usual! All the pastas were fantastic. Highly recommend the pasta tasting
We really enjoy the food here. So delicious! And the drinks are good too. Can't resist their Negronis.
One of our party was quite disappointed with his ravioli and cherry tomatoes. At $22 it was way overpriced and nothing special. Unfortunately the person who was unhappy with this is the one who usually decides where we go. I hope I can convince him that the lamp chops and the canneloni are worth going back for and that there will be no more disappointments.
Such a great neighborhood spot. We usually ask for a quiet location and they are very accommodating. Thank you for that.
Great restaurant. Consistently great food and great service.
The food was really good, and the service was outstanding. The only problem was the front people were talking, laughing, and goofing around so it took away from the charm of the restaurant.
My husband and I came here on Saturday night to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary, and left our 9 month old baby at home for one of the first times. We've been coming to this restaurant for years as it reminds us of our honeymoon in Florence. The food is always outstanding. They seemed busy, and while the waiter was nice, he didn't ask if we'd dined there before, didn't ask if we were celebrating anything, and just didn't seem very interested in us at all. Again, he was nice but it was not at all personal. But then a table of nine or so men was seated directly next to us. They were high-fiving and whooping and being incredibly loud and rude, and the waiter or manager or did nothing, and said nothing to us, didn't even apologize for the noise. We were excited about getting dessert but left right after our entrees because the whole night was a fiasco. I do love this restaurant normally, so maybe they were just having an off night? I'll come back, but I'll ask to sit elsewhere.
It was very loud, due to an annoying group at the back. There is a quieter room by we never get a table there.
My pollo - fungi entree was delicious but came without any potato or rice as it should. The waitress didn't mention it when I ordered.
There are only a few sides on the menu, not great.
This restaurant never fails. One of my favorites in DC. Highly recommend the blue berry steak or the veggie pasta sampler if you don’t eat meat.
We went here for our anniversary and everything was so great! The food was outstanding and the staff was super friendly and helpful
Always a good option. The food is phenomenal and the servers know their craft. This time we were a party of 5, got the round table in the back of the dinning room, which was great for our occasion. It never fails.
great food and great setting - amazing service and the food was PHENOMENAL. tastes like its straight from Italy
One of my favorite italian places in the city. Had a really fantastic meal filled with fresh pasta. My little boy didn't like the butter pasta but devoured the canneloni mascarpone that I ordered.
Very charming setting. The food was lovely especially the meats - steaks cooked to perfection and the blueberry sauce on filet fabulous! we will be back and we have told friends about it.
Food was excellent and top notch service, it is a bit pricey, but well-worth it for a special occasion.
We went to celebrate two anniversaries
Overpriced for just typical pasta. Additionally, over charged my credit card.
The food was very good but the waiter was exceptionally rude. He blatantly ignored me multiple times when being spoken to, and couldn’t wait to get rid of us from the second we sat down. We ordered the steak sampler and had to ask three times what each one was, at this point the food was almost gone, before he would let us know what we were eating. To top it all off, we were celebrating a birthday and the restaurant called to confirm the reservation and mentioned the birthday and said they would make note of it. The meal ended and the waiter brought the check with no acknowledgement that we were celebrating a birthday. We had to go to the host stand and request an acknowledgement, which the waiter begrudgingly brought out.
Food was good as usual, but for some reason our server was MIA most of the time and very curt. First time I experienced this here.
Acqua Al 2 had been on my list of "go-to" places in DC for a while, after many recommendations from friends. On the basis of these recommendations and on Open Table's great reviews, I scheduled my husband's 27th birthday dinner at Acqua Al 2. It exceeded our expectations. We were greeted at the door with a hearty "happy birthday" to my husband, and a special cozy table reserved for us in the heart of the restaurant. Reviews that suggested the filet mignon with blueberry reduction sauce did not disappoint; my husband called it the "best steak he'd ever had" (he's had a lot of steaks, believe me). The moscato was cheap and incredible. Before our dessert arrived, we were brought an amazing panna cotta, complete with a birthday candle and "happy birthday" song. But what put the service over the top was the two complimentary digestifs the hostess brought us as we finished our dessert. Not only will we be back to Acqua Al 2 in DC; we plan to visit their mother restaurant in Florence, Italy, and have recommended it to friends who are traveling to Italy this fall. 5 easy stars for Acqua Al 2!
Eh--the food just wasn't very good. Had the frittata with proscuitto and moz, and it was really overdone and super salty. I wasn't enthused by the brunch offerings. It has a bunch of good reviews for dinner, so probably would stick with that.
Excellent food, atmosphere, and service. We've dined here multiple times and this was the most enjoyable. Even though it was a Saturday night, the restaurant wasn't crazy crowded like I've seen it before. Regardless, if you're looking for excellent Italian, look no further than Acqua Al 2.
The best pasta and service. I highly recommend the gorgonzola gnocchi!
It was good! They could have packed the leftovers better.
Outstanding from beginning to end. Offered an excellent value 3 course price fix lunch, which we all chose. The portions were substantial, particularly for a lunch price fix. We also split a baked eggplant parm appetizer that was magnificent; best I have ever had. My soup appetizer was only OK, but my sirloin steak was marvelous. Ended with a very, very good tiramisu. A friend had a chocolate hazelnut bar-cake which was also great. Service was top-notch as well, and the place was quiet enough to talk.
This is one of the better Mel’s I have had in DC in several years. I will be back.
Fabulous menu-service -food-wine-just like the one in Florence
Our server was not attentive and not super interested in us. Also, this is the second time I’ve been to Acqua al 2, both times I have been sat next to the sliding door and watched it go back and forth all night past my table. It’s very distracting and makes for a cheap experience. This time, the servers actually knocked my elbow causing me to almost spill my wine. They didn’t even notice, much less, apologize.
All that being said, the food is good. I’m just not interested in paying that much when the experience doesn’t meet standards.
Excellent! Polished old school service. Great private table
Just a great meal and wonderful service.
